In today's episode of Dungeons and Dragons Horror Stories, we have a few stories of some of the most horrible people in games of TTRPGs, inculding a tale of a Karen player that doesn't like a ruling in a game of DnD and accuses the Dungeon Master of being a homophobe, a story of a player taking sex in a game of DnD way to far when it comes to the BBEG, A DM that has a player go behind his back to try and steal players away from the table, and a story of a vile racist that uses his disability as an excuse for his bad behavior before retreating to 4chan.

As a member of both the LGBT+ community as well as the ASD community, I have no tolerance for people who expect special treatment for our situations. We might have special needs, but that doesn't give us the right to be assholes. On the LGBT+ front, I'm with OP, as there was nothing sexual about it, just a charm casting, a bit like a roll for charisma. It's not bigoted at all. And the ASD angle, I've said it before and I'll say it again. Mental conditions are not your fault, but they are your responsibility. And this guy was not taking any responsibilities.

Yeah, aro/ace myself. Charm spells are not seduction or mind control, they more or less just make you think of the caster as a really good friend so you're apped to suggestions such as " can I have a discount?" or "be my bodyguard.". It does not not force the player to do something they wouldn't otherwise do like sleep with a gender they aren't attracted to or committing not alive anymore. It sounds like op was using the spell correctly and problem player made a big stink for no other reason then they were pissy they didn't get their way

Or I feel something is wrong I try to talk with my players and Dms after the session is over Not during unless to get some clarification and to understand something. Never argue during the session. That is not cool. I can somewhat see where the player can get mad. But if that were me. I'd be like. "Wow Dm that was creative nice homebrew you made.". Also as much as I enjoy Critical Role, Scanlan being a manwhore seems to be the role model for a lot of Bards or are the example of how a bard works. Жыл бұрын

I don't think it's as simple as that. I do think hypersensitivity to perceived oppression does play a role here, but it's also a mixture of meta knowledge and confusion about the rules. In video games the "charmed" status effect is usually represented by little pink hearts floating above the victim's head. That gives the impression that the character is temporarily in love with the caster. Final Fantasy Tactics goes goes a step further and flat out states that charm doesn't work on targets that are the same gender of the caster. So I think they were just assuming that charm in dnd works the same way it does in video games. Their hypersensitivity and desire to avoid a negative status effect is what made them unwilling to the DM's explaination.

The Succubus and Inccubus "should fail cause i aint into that" is really easy to explain so long as your players arent pissy cheaters. Firstly the word "Charmed" does not mean exclusively sexual attraction, and secondly, words on the spell name and its descriptions on how it works are different. Faerie Fire for example has no fire and is not fairy related. The character is charmed and compeled into protecting the caster. It believes its someone he admires and deserves his/her protection. Not just sexualy attracted, the ilusion may cause the victim to see a beloved relative or childhood friend or mentor and in most narcisistical characters cases, HIMSELF !

It does my heart good when someone is called out on trying to use cancel culture not for any noble but simply to get their way. Because it's not fair to ever have a whole group of people judged because of an entitled loud minority. Even more so over a tabletop game of all things. Meanwhile, I didn't even know Doge was gay until this video, because he cares about entertaining his audience rather than being a shover. A friend of mine who is LGBT got angry after lost a round at a video game and threw his controller at me and quietly declared he was a really upset. I flat out asked him "What? Over a game?" Rather than accuse anyone of cheating or playing the discrimination card like Karen did in this story, he manned up and said "yes" while realizing HE overreacted and apologized. Said friend has since learned to control his temper and over a decade passed and no repeat outburst occurred.

My thoughts: 'Charm does not necessitate sexual attraction as you can be 'charmed' into doing something by a persuasive speaker for example. Even if it did we're discussing something magical in nature here and, considering we have magical forces which can override death itself and do stuff like turn you into a pigeon or potted plant, I would say overriding a persons sexual identity would be within reach of that. This isn't to mention that you are literally dealing with a brainwashing type spell. Your character is perfectly within their rights to be outraged that they were brainwashed and having their gender identity overridden can be a massive part of that outrage.' In other words, this guy is in the negative assholes here; especially since this could have been handled immediately on the spot by the player explaining that this was a personal issue as opposed to a rules-based one.

Not to mention that OP realy empesised how evil this faction was which in some peoples mind sadly gives the impression of "I can do whatever I want with them since they are evil and I'm good". Granted this absolutly dose NOT excuse hes shit, and the fact that he eather did not or refused to read the room. Also it is good to see when the players just stand up and just say "NO fuk off!".

In regards to charm monster, the player definitely got offended too quickly and the DM gave an appropriate response. It is a point where I think maybe if a player seems legitimately offended, you pause the game and you show them the stat block, even if you cover things like attributes up; it's a consideration but there are also other players too and you can't stop the game every time if that person is going to be overly sensitive. So I'mma say that the DM didn't do anything wrong and the player is the a-hole. In regards to charm spells in general, they are one of the riskiest parts of vanilla D&D; they are rife for abuse by players (altho there is enough for DMs to shut down the horny incels), and when used against players they remove player agency, which can negatively impact the experience. Personally, with all the character's I've played, only used Charm Person once, which was on my Paladin, the character I have played the most. I used charm person against an Orc to remove them from combat, the DM then used it's charmed status to feed us plot hooks and after which, I think we sent the orc home (via persuasion) , or it attacked, too long ago to remember. This same character once also failed a save against a charm spell, which was against harpies. I had a very slight annoyance losing control of my character (tho I didn't show it) but I understood that, that is just an effect of a harpies' song and part of the challenge of facing that type of monster, I made the next save against the song. In hindsight, it's an interesting thing about harpies and being unprepared for their song. Last note on this Paladin; They are a devotion paladin and now has aura of devotion (passive AoE charm immunity), so when that campaign comes off hiatus (soon), that'll be fun to troll the DM with when they next try to charm our characters!

Not exactly. Succubi and Incubi are two different species of demons. While both of them are demons of lust, the Succubi tend to be sexually submissive, while the Incubi are sexually dominant. What you are thinking of, is their ability to take the forms of whatever their victims are most likely to be attracted by. If a Succubus believes that her victim is attracted to submissive, elven femboys, she would use that knowledge to take on an appropriate male form. Conversely, if an Incubus believed their victim was into amazonian women, who can crush your skull between their thighs, they would use that knowledge to take on a female form, est.

First Story - A lot of players assume Charm spells are inherently sexual, and/or complete mind-control. It's not either of those things, closer to supernatural charisma that can talk people into things against their better judgment. Second Story - Sexual content is fine if everyone at the table was okay with it. Edgy drow went right for sexual violence, and that is not okay. Remember the Red Rule; A player-controlled character can only be seduced or otherwise put in a sexual situation if the player is okay with it. Otherwise, any such attempt fails automatically. The DM is also a player and their boundaries should be respected. Third Story - OP was guilty of inflexible DMing, but not railroading. And bring inflexible isn't necessarily bad. Final Story - Who goes to 4-chan for the community?

Some players are after romance, others want to try eachother on, but you get the odd player who's into darker things. Generally, erp works in a private chat, unless your group is feeling voyeuristic and don't mind bogging down the campaign with rather, awkward descriptives. I remember being an elf ranger who decided she'd spy on two dwarf pc's through a keyhole to an inn room. Both players invited me into their little whisper session. What they said was top shelf kink. I stopped them, told the dm my character ran down the hall, hugged the toilet and threw up. When the necromancer asked her what she saw, she didn't even look back or get up off her knees, just raised her middle finger back at him, choked out "Up yours!" and threw up again. It became a joke around the table that dwarf sex was an abomination to the gods and likely involved beard pulling, for a few weeks lol.

That first time DM was definitely railroading. Why would a capital city not have an armorer who can sell them full plate? And if they didn't, and they deliberately sought out a town that did have a master smith, why would they make it so he wasn't there to sell it? I could see doing a short dungeon to rescue him and then maybe in turn getting a discount on the plate mail as a result, but it's pretty unfair to keep denying the player a relatively average item. Clearly they weren't having fun if they all quit the campaign and made a new one without him. I get screwing up as a first time DM, especially when it's your first campaign as a player too. But I was in the same position of DMing my first campaign and I wouldn't do it as it serves no purpose. The one thing I side with the DM on is having some enemies surviving the smoke and fire. I think that's fair but the players were already so annoyed at the DM that it was the straw that broke the camel's back. Your job as a DM is to make things fun for everyone and being repeatedly denied normal armor isn't fun for anyone. Metagaming is stupid but so is denying players things for no good reason. Then the guy has to add irrelevant info about how he's just so much better than Dylan. Gross. Dylan's skill or lack thereof as a DM has literally nothing to do with the situation, they're just bragging.

This charm spell is exactly why I love Pathfinder. It makes some things more reasonable. Charm Person and Charm Monster are two different spells, and yes Charm Monster can function on humans but neither cause love. Charm Person is a crafting requirement for a love potion sure. But all it does is alter a creature's attitude towards you to be more favorable. It is not a love spell and does not have a sexual preference related function. To that end. The players calling you homophobic just wanted an excuse for the spell to fail. That said. If I were running a Succubus in Pathfinder I would flavor Charm Monster as a romantic charming and specify that sure, the succubus being neither the species nor gender of your sexual preference gives you a cumulative +5 for a total of +10 for both requirements being fulfilled. Assuming you were in combat with the Succubus before it cast this spell-like you would actually have a cumulative +15 to the Will Save DC of 22. This means you only need to roll above 7 on the dice. Even then the Succubi's magic wouldn't affect you the same. Against a human interested in women the interest would be romantic. Against a human interested in men the interest would be platonic. Either way there wouldn't be love. Just a level of affection necessary to suggest they stand out of the combat or perform a (non-sexual) favor.

The Charm family of spells only force the victim to regard the caster highly, like a close personal friend, and make the victim more susceptible to agreeing with the caster and their requests. It doesn’t have anything to do with attraction or sex whatsoever. Succubus and Incubus are also the same creature in 5e, able to change between male and female forms at Will so even if that was an issue, it wouldn’t have been here. But that’s not a 5e succubus’s motive either. They strive to make people abandon their ideas and convictions and commit atrocities to stain the souls of their victims, ensuring said victims be cast into the negative planes after death.

Actually this isn't true (the part claiming 5e Succubus/Incubus are the same creature but can transform between types). They are the same species but different genders like everything else in the game... nowhere on either sheet does it mention transforming between the two nor does it claim they are the same creature. I think where you're confused is that a Succubus/Incubus can 100% transform into a medium creature of the same gender. An incubus can shape change into a young female woman and a Succubus can transform in a hulking male lumberjack. I think the confusion comes from their lore entry being this: 'In fact, with their shapechanging powers, incubi and succubi could both change their sex with ease, though most had a preference for one or the other' Yes this does seem like they are the same thing that's not what it's saying. They are two different things but they can CHOOSE to be whatever they want. Succubus and Incubus can turn into the counterpart in any shape they choose but they prefer certain targets and how the present defines which type they are..... I never noticed until now that how Succubus/Incubus work was like a predecessor to how people want us to view gender politics today.... kind of funny if you think about it lmao. These creatures came out with the base game well before that kind of movement really caught on...

I'm not familiar with the rules on that first one, but it sounds like it needs clarification on what's in the rule book. "Charm monster" does sound like you're appealing to someone's desires, particularly with a "succubus". Again, not familiar with the rules, but I'm guessing it's supposed to be "charm" as in "I'm an adorable kitty and you want to protect me" rather than "I'm sexy and you get to bang me if you protect me". But I can see how how you'd assume the latter with a succubus.

This charm makes a humanoid creature regard you as its trusted friend and ally... it perceives your words and actions in the most favorable way. Right out of the 3.5 handbook. Effectively what it means if you're not aware there are 5 stages of 'attitudes' towards characters. Hostile, Unfriendly, Neutral, Friendly, and Helpful, this spell according to it's full wording makes the target 'friendly' to you. Which whenever the charmer asks a favor of the creature prompts opposed charisma checks. Now friendly itself is worded as such: Chat, advise, offer limited help, advocate. So basically it would require a good roll vs the player to make them want to defend the Succubus but being that a 3.5 Succubus has a charisma of 26 (+8 mod) it's not hard to guess that the ranger could have easily found itself under the spell and then being hostile to his allies. So realistically I see nothing wrong with this, because yes the succubus could in theory do anything even nsfw crap, most DMs won't let it go that far, nor does it need to go that far... but in the context of a smart devil in a fight vs 4 adversaries of course she'd pick one of them to charm so that it turned a 1v4 into a 2v3 with the succubus being on a whole different level and a player on equal footing the fight is then balanced for one 6 minutes or 36 rounds because this particular charm is a 6th level spell-like ability. (Spell like abilities are based off of caster level, if there is no caster level then it's based off how many hit die the creature has) a Succubus is 6d8. Sorry if you are aware of some of this but you make note you're not familiar with the rules so I just felt I needed to give the brief explanation of everything just to 1. explain what was going on and why the DM isn't in the wrong and 2. so that not just you but anyone who reads it can see what leads to the situation that the ranger found themselves in.

I think that having your player controlled is triggering but nope she's not in the right.
