The video is from the 1996 U.S. Figure Skating Championships in San Jose, California. It was at this event where Karen's younger sister, Michelle Kwan, won the first of her 9 U.S. Figure Skating Championship titles.
Karen is now a coach in California alongside her husband, 1988 Olympic Pair bronze medalist Peter Oppegard.
