Her voice is legendary, her skills as a drummer are criminally underrated, and she was, without exception, the Greatest Singing-drummer in rock history, bar none; Levon Helm, fine talent, Don Henley, great singer, lame drummer could NEVER do triplets on a snare like she could, and her off-meter and syncopation was amazing.

I put her and Phil Collins as the greatest singing drummers, Karen had a better voice than Phils but Phil had better chops in his prime playing the tricky prog rock arrangements, tbh I cannot separate the two for pure god given talent, Phil also plays piano.

Both were great singer-drummers, but Karen was a better drummer than Phil was as a singer. And Phil’s drumming was not exceptional, unlike Karen’s singing.

Horace Lin I agree. Even if Phil was a better drummer we’re talking about arguably the greatest female vocalist of all time (definitely top 5) so that tips the scale unless you weigh the two skill set 90-10 drumming to singing or something like that.

I agree that Karen was one of the greatest singers that ever lived!!! I remember when I was a small boy and hearing her sing in the car on the radio, some cars back then had only one speaker and the sound was not very good, and Karen's voice was just WOW!!!! No one else was so expressive and dynamic and felt every note that she sang. Even all these years later, I still say WOW when I hear her voice and I stop what I am doing and just listen to "That Incredible voice with the most perfect diction and phrasing. Karen made you always feel as if she was only singing back to one person. YOU!!! No one could ever equal or surpass Karen!! Dearly Loved and Missed!!!! I am so grateful for the incredible music Karen left behind, but it makes me also wonder had she lived, just think all the more incredible music Karen and Richard would have made. No One in the world had a voice like KAREN!!!!

We are very lucky that we live in a time when her voice was able to be immortalized forever. We will never know what the master composers and musicians sounded like from the time of Mozart or Beethoven or others of the masters. We however have the technology to remember her sound forever, and it will be remembered. A Star on Earth, A Star in Heaven. The Righteous Brothers had a song that always gives me shivers called Rock and Roll Heaven. When you hear this song and stop to think about the band the musicians lost to us could put together, then you really get shivers. She left us a legacy of beautiful music, and her voice will always sooth.

This was a nice video & it is so refreshing to hear people talk about Karen...the person, the singer......& NOT...Karen Carpenter..."the anorexic". John Bettis was a band member & co-wrote many of the Carpenter songs with Richard. I just heard him on youtube in an interview he gave on Sept. 15th 2014. He said..."the kid who went through all that (probs. she had) was "a PRETTY, LIVELY, ENERGETIC, & FUNNY person" There's also a video of a radio tribute on her 50th birthday where the host played clips of radio interviews he had with Karen in 1976. It was great because Karen was just very laid-back & sounded like she was just chatting with an old friend. It wasn't one of those polite interrogation interviews. She laughed & joked around & talked about how she liked to needle-point, decorate, & cook. He asked her about her singing, if she'd had lessons, etc. Karen said "No, I just open my mouth & it comes out." He asked her what requirements she had for a husband...Karen said..."well I do have a list, but I'd have to stand up because it will probably drop to the floor." n In a different interview, someone asked her how she got ready for a concert. Karen said..." Oh, I just get dressed & walk out on sage..." It was nice to actually just hear her voice & hear her laughter. So, yeah, this was a good video. It shows here that you wrote this a month ago...I guess I've written so much because I've gotten so tired of hearing about her tragic life/death & the day she died...Feb. 4th 1983. Well, today is March 2nd & it's Karen's birthday. She would have been 65 years old. I have no doubt that this "lively, energetic, funny person would want people to be talking about Feb. 2nd 1983 & all the sad things. I think she'd rather be remembered as you say...who she was as a person. And as an end note...tell people to celebrate her as a person by going out & buying a " SNICKERS" candy bar & eat it. Snickers was her favorite & she even had a t-shirt with it written across the front. That's the Karen Carpenter I'm going to remember today!!!

Karen Carpenter's voice was like finding a box of chocolates with an infinite amount of chocolates and the first one you eat was the exact perfect one you love.
