I grew up with the Carpenters' music. Karen was one of a kind. There will never be another like her. She had such a pure calming voice. And she was a terrific drummer. That was her passion even more than singing. Sadly we lost her so young. Thankfully we have her legacy left in her music. The Carpenters had so many great songs such as "For All We Know", "Goodbye To Love", "Superstar", "Top Of The World", "Sing", "Yesterday Once More", "I Won't Last A Day Without You", "Please Mr. Postman", "Only Yesterday", "There's A Kind Of Hush (All Over the World)", "I Need To Be In Love" & so many more.

This was at the very end of the Ed Sullivan show you heard all of We've Only Just Begun, then they finished the time for the show with a little of "Close to You" A lot of the Carpenters songs on albums were many takes of the band (Richard getting the exact sound he wanted) and 3 or 4 times (39 times on Never Fall in Love Again) of Karen and Richard doing the background singing and combining all of those takes on one tape then Karen doing one take with the solo audio. They had tapes of all their music of instruments and background singing if they did not have the correct instruments on stage these tapes were used and only Karens solo was live. You will see some tapes were the wrong instrument looks to be making sounds it could never make. You can see this on Wings of Pegasus he stripped it down to Karens voice and ran pitch monitoring software to compare live and the album side by side turns out she did slightly better on the live. To add to dagmars list of songs "Sweet Sweet Smile" "Ave Maria" "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" "Help" "Ticket to Ride" Yes 2 Beatles covers that the Beatles like! "Solitaire" and for a change of pace “Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft" from an attempt of the International Flying Saucer Bureau to communicate with aliens in 1953 one I have only seen one reaction to about a year ago " Reason to Believe" There are 3 versions of it on the internet one was done on the 5th Dimension Traveling Sunshine TV special I think 1971 it is the one I like best kzread.info/dash/bejne/nYiLx6qefZnTiqw.html

Karen overheard some executives discussing her weight, and her mother was a control freak and touted her brother over her so she never felt comfortable in her own skin. She became anorexic before anyone knew what that was. When she passed away it brought that disease to the forefront and they began to look into the cause of that. Entertainer's were always made to thin down for the camera so it was an industry issue. The camera would always add 10-15 pounds to the visual so they were all in a similar boat as Karen. It just hit her harder because it caused her to have a weak heart and that is what she succumbed to, heart failure.

This song was originally written for a bank advertisement to newlyweds to open an account. Richard Carpenter heard it and decided it would make a great song for Karen and him to record. Karen had one of the smoothest voices ever, and Richard was a genius producer. Together, they propelled this song from a bank TV commercial to a Gold Record.

The best female voice of all time. Unmatched for her tone, warmth and vocal range. As of today, October 7, 2023, Richard Carpenter is working on a new studio album. This album will be her first solo recording since 1987's "Time Out of Mind." Carpenter has been working on the album for several years, and has been searching for a vocalist who can fill the void left by her sister Karen, who died in 1983. In an interview with Billboard in 2022, Carpenter said that the album will have a sound similar to that of the Carpenters, but that it will also be an evolution of his sound. "It's still soft rock, but it's a little more modern," Carpenter said. "There's also a bit of experimentation." Carpenter has not yet announced a release date for the album, but has said that he hopes it will be released in 2024. In addition to his work on the new album, Carpenter is also working on a documentary about the life and career of the Carpenters. The documentary, which is being produced by the company "Greenwich Entertainment", will be released in 2024. Carpenter also continues to tour and give concerts. In 2023, he toured the United States with singer-songwriter Michael Feinstein. There is no voice today that compares to Karen Carpenter's. She was a unique musical genius in the world and goes far beyond her time. It without autotune or any other manipulation. Just her voice and her brother Richard's incredible arrangements. No current artist can match this in this era. Karen was also one of the best drummers of her time and she could sing well while she played the drums simultaneously. A true top talent. RIP Karen Carpenter, We will always remember you and love you!!! QEPD Karen Carpenter, ¡¡¡ Siempre te recordaremos y te querremos!!! 💛💛💛

Yes, I think anorexia and bulimia were just starting to appear in articles or on news shows but then, tragically, she put a face to the mysterious eating disorders. It was so hard to believe she thought she was overweight. I think it was many years later that we finally started hearing about body dysmorphia. Such a curse on our image obsessed society. It seems to me that she had actually been getting help and was improving but the damage had already been done. I’m so glad to see younger people discovering her music and appreciating her incredible voice.

In the very early years of The Carpenters, Karen and Richard were mentored by Burt Bacharach, a legendary singer/songwriter. Later on, Karen and Richard started writing themselves. It was always just the two of them, with the assistance of session players when needed. Karen was know for her "One take and done" in the studio. IMHO, her voice was only matched by Whitney Houston. There's quite a catalog to choose from, for future reactions.

Stunning harmonies and a fantastic vibe with every song they did. Great Reaction!! Growing up in the 60's/70's the Carpenters were a big part of my life's soundtrack! Something that a lot of younger people don't realize is what a HUGE variety of music styles were very much mainstream. Not only did we hear (on a regular basis) the music that our parents liked (Big Band, Sinatra, Dean Martin, Doris Day) --don't forget, the "Grown-Ups" controlled the family's one TV, and the radio in the family car until the teenager could mow enough lawns or babysit enough kids to buy their own AM/FM radio for their room! Once we had our own radio we had rock and roll, folk rock, easy rock, psychedelic rock, hard rock, acid rock, bubble gum, pop, country rock, traditional country, easy listening, Motown, R&B, disco and more! It was truly a magical time for popular music AND for growing up. I ALWAYS enjoy your reaction videos and I look forward to seeing more!

Yes! Watching these reaction videos has made me appreciate the variety of music we had growing up. Not many comments include the older artists (RIP Tony Bennett) although some of them continued to produce music into the seventies and beyond. When I was reading your long list of styles available to us I was thinking, “Yeah, and all on the same radio station.” Maybe in larger cities there were more specialized stations but where I grew up, besides the rock station, I think you also had a choice of country, soul, and classical music. Maybe there were others but I only listened to the rock station. We called it a rock station but they played a lot of crossover songs as well. It still catches me off guard when a reactor asks, “What genre is this?” I think, “Why are you asking us? We didn’t think that way except for in broad terms, for the most part, although I know there were some who were more aware of the various styles than others. As for me, I was shocked to hear Charlie Daniels referred to as a country singer. This was probably a few decades after “The Devil Went Down to Georgia”. In my defense, that song, and a few others of his, were played on the rock station, and it didn’t sound like the old school, twangy country music of the time.

One of the great injustices in pop music history is that Karen Carpenter never cut a standards album. She was absolutely the queen of the torch ballad...but only ever made a handful of recordings of that music. I Can Dream Can't I from 1975, with orchestration by 50s bandleader Billy May, is glorious, and forecasts the later full scale collaboration (three whole albums) between Linda Ronstadt and Nelson Riddle...
