If you've never lived in an area that has a "Home Owner's Association" consider yourself lucky. My father and I have fought with those people for years about some of the very things in this movie. (and we are Japanese, not black!) Everything from "Your garbage cans are not properly in your driveway!" to "Why did you paint your fence auburn?! Can't you see everyone else's fences are brown!?!?!?!?!?!" They even got mad when WE paid for replacing the fence for our backyard (which separates our backyard from 4 others). We literally PAID to replace and install new sections of their fence since it intersects our yard. And their complaint? It was the "wrong type of wood." It was stupid because one of them complained "they wanted oak and we used pine" or something like that. It's like WE PAID FOR IT! lol... It's OUR yard! This BS isn't just about racist people either. Like Elvis pointed out, young adults, adults our age, many of them feel entitled to things that they either never paid for, have no responsibility for, or isn't even their business. It's more and more obvious now since everyone has a phone, everyone is connected online and it takes a second to pull up Twitter. Just don't be anywhere like what these people are in this movie. And most of all, think before you act. Half of stupidity wouldn't happen if people would pause for a second and ask themselves "Is this really a good idea?" before acting.

That is literally the point of HOA's. They have rules, guidelines and standards. If you don't like that, they maybe not join one. I don't understand why people are always complaining about HOAs, saying how bad they are just because they didn't like the rules.

  • @markoyamashitach

@@DavidKen878 maybe you should read and learn comprehension before complaining about not understanding. Did I ever say we JOINED the HOA? Did I ever say we were a part of it? Of course not. Talking just like the little ignorant person you are. They HAVE one in his neighborhood. We don't have a choice. He's lived there for 35 years. They suddenly decided to form one in the neighborhood. Half of the residents don't even belong because of pretentious attitudes like yours. The man literally worked his entire life to pay off his house. Something it sounds like you've never done or tried. Try doing that and then have some moron "not understand' how they're entitled to tell you what to do with your property, then maybe you'll understand.

Time is money. Take France for instance. Tanning breast naked on any beach is A-ok. But a local ordinance in Paris from the early 1800's states that women aren't allowed to wear pants without the written authorization of their husband, father, or a doctor. In the UK, you're not allowed to enter parliament in a full suit of armor. Or to "handle a fish in a conspicuous manner in public". I think it specified salmon, even, as a species, but I'm not sure anymore. I once found a local writ in my town's archives stating that vehicles shouldn't exceed a certain width. From the 1700's. The way the couple still acts completely polite and even appeasing towards the Karen even after it's well clear that she's batshit crazy and only out to cause trouble, is a reference to how we as a society treat Karens. Ie. we let them get away with massive amounts of shit that would not be tolerated from absolutely anybody else in the same situation... Simply because we're so conditioned to the idea that middle-aged white women cannot be evil and bad with malicious intent and even when they obviously are, it's somehow not completely their own fault (like it would be considered to be if it was anyone else) and will be tolerated to no end, until someone really does get seriously hurt.

Several years ago, I read an article on an actor who had to portray a racist for a well known movie. He had a very hard time with the role, he researched as much as he could on to topic including looking up white supremacist websites. He just couldn’t wrap his mind around it as he said in the article he was raised to believe everyone is equal and attended schools with other students of all races. After the film wrapped up, he attended the premiere and could barely sit through his own performance it made him SO uncomfortable. He said while playing the role, he would go into his trailer and cry because of the amount of disrespect he had to portray. Inevitably he ended up in therapy, the role affected him so much. I believe he said after that he turned down any role where the character was portrayed as a racist. I really wish I could remember the actor or the film. I do remember it being profound and wildly popular even today. Reading the article really stuck with me because of the effect it had on the actor.

So it’s normal and the ppl who called her a karen prolly have 5 yr old minds cause asking for your wrong order is a worldwide normal thing to do, or they were just joking. What’s the point taking jokes seriously in this generation? Ppl’s humors are so broken.

I’m not sure there’s really a “sad” part of the Karen meme lmao. Not trying to be an asshole but if being called a Karen is genuinely upsetting then you’re overreacting a tiny bit. Especially if you’re not being a public nuisance because if you get called a Karen for doing something completely normal then it’s most likely that they’re just referencing the meme as a joke. Internet culture doesn’t translate well to actual conversation so it comes off as an insult when it’s more likely just an ironic reference. The only people who use Karen as a genuine insult are the same people who call people simps and say “cringe” whenever someone says something they don’t like. What I’m saying is either they’re joking or they are a joke so either way it really shouldn’t bother you. Standing up for yourself makes other people upset and as far as insults go, Karen is pretty damn light lmao. My friends and I joke about being Karens all the time whenever we have to deal with shitty costumer service - lighten up a bit. It’s not a slur or anything lmao
