Hunter Noack performs "Kara Toprak" a piece for solo piano by Fazil Say, written in 1997. This music video was created at @thebanffcentre as part of a residency program. Huei Lin, who filmed and edited the video, was also a member of the artist residency program. This recording will be released on Hunter's debut album titled, "In a Landscape" June, 8, 2022 on Heinz Records. Absolutely stunning!
I always imaged this piece literally, as a farmer digging his plow deep into rich black earth. Now I see it metaphorically. The introductory poem could have come from Psalms - some of which are embracingly passionate. So, the song is also a love story! In this particular video, for the land. But could, from the poem, be expressing the passion between two people. The videography is stunning.

Beautiful. I wish Turks too could understand Aşık Veysel this well. Even in the first notes, and video clip by that old man, I know you felt Veysel's intentions on writing those words. Using that "axe" in the video is a perfect choice because Aşık Veysel pointed that kind of axe (to addressing of digging black earth [of his eternal destiny]). Thinking deeply about your own death, your own "reuniting" with Allah make everyone good, make you forgive and forget everything. When he says "my sole (faithful) love is black earth" he meant that. He only wishes to re-meet the One. "Earth" is only a rest area in our journey.

Turks do understand Veysel very well. My grandfather, who was a farmer, exemplified the idea in the many ways he lived.
