The only people who would have enough political power to do that would be the International Criminal Courts ("ICC") and they have no right over crimes committed in Burundi after 26 October 2017. You may argue that Burundi is hiding something by withdrawing from the ICC but that is not our place to speculate, the United States withdrew their signature from the ICC and we don't speculate about a war there etc

If it has the requisite backbone, the court can legally prosecute the crimes committed before that date. And there are more than enough of those.

This is extremely saddening. I’m shocked, appalled and devastated to see the total destruction of humanity all for power and greed. A human life should be invaluable.

The chemicals they use in alot of garment factories, when mixed very closely resemble blood in their drains and runoffs and it also contains foam or bubbles that look like soap. In this case i would hope that it isnt whats its claimed to be because that is an extreme amount of blood colored water meaning that would be a large amount of people being killed! I always feel extreme sorrow for Africa because of what their government is capable and guilty of... i mean in some parts of Africa Albinos live in fear because they are actively hunted and killed because they are believed to be evil!

I believe the leader that was around at the time is dead, but I’m not sure the secret torture of dissidents has stopped. They’re probably just more careful with stuff like cleaning blood.

The problem is that the character traits required to climb the social hierarchy and become a politician with any say, are opposite to the character traits that make a good leader. Power ladders need to be more transparent. I'm talking about all countries here.

The terms Hutu and Tutsi are now banned in Rwanda, and the citizens in that country refer to themselves as Rwandese. Of course, Rwanda has a very good leader in President Paul Kagame. I think the assertion in this documentary that the Burundian authorities are attempting to create and exploit division is probably true. The Burundese are smart people, most know that national unity is the first step on the road to progress and development. I hope this will happen for Burundi.

@Jack Kelso That’s truly heroic saving those people. The ones who would call you a monster have it backwards. It sort of reminds me of a French officer who has written a book where he said he too eliminated some genocidal militiamen. He’s a man of conscience but it’s sad to see the pro-genocide among his old colleagues verbally attacking or threatening him for it every chance they get!

look up kasese humanist school, they are doing positive works in Uganda. Hard working Ugandans bringing up fellow Ugandans. They are not religious, so for those who believe in God they may find that hard to take, but they are genuinely making great strides!

This just makes me think of how gnarly an ancient battlefield would have been. Whole rivers turning red like that is nuts.

It's good that BBC covered the Face of Whistleblower and gave false alias, but wouldn't it be useless if the reporter reveal his working background as well as who he worked for?. I hope the reporter does a better job at protecting the identity of the whistleblower.

Tribal intolerance, I hope Kenya is watching. We can't hate our brothers to the extent of killing. It's just wrong. The AU and regional cooperations such as ECOWAS should deploy troops into Burundi. This has to be stopped, it's wrong.

I am not from Burundi, but I have been there a few times. So sad, there was so much promise
