Kampf-Panzer Panther in voller Fahrt im Gelände Panther Tank WWII

The video shows a german "Panther" Tank in original restored condition in terms of engine, mechanic and optical outfit. Probably the best combat-tank at his time. The tank was driven by one of the remaining experts for historic tanks from the Military Tank Test Center in Trier, Germany under regular cross country conditions.

@@flyingtanks9313 30mm autocannon will pierce through the turret front pretty easily. Something like the Bushmaster II's APFSDS rounds have over 100mm pen at 1km range. A barrage of those is guaranteed to hit and penetrate through the mantlet, which is only 100mm and flat at the center. Even at 2-3km range it would most likely die to the Autocannon from 2nd shell impacting the hole made by the previous non-penetrating sabot which is quite likely to happen when the tank gets peppered with some odd 50-100 rounds. Edit: Also, by todays standard it's garbage. It breaks down REALLY often, like once per 150-250 km, has really mediocre firepower, absolutely abysmal fire control and optics, is really slow and also really heavy and huge in size for what it does.

Do they truly have extreme difficulty keeping it running as some historic sources would imply? Is it a difficult vehicle to drive and handle? How is its automotive performance? Do they feel the Panther is overall a good design? So many burning questions!

They were impressive on the 1on1 head on engagements, the problems just started with the costs and maintenance. Panthers had a bad habit of needing a drivetrain change every 150km driven so they had to be transported over rail almost directly to the combat to be effective, which mandated track change to the transport tracks and back to combat tracks after dismounting. As a result a lot of Panthers were lost on the retreat as there was no way to bring them with the retreating troops. Their side armor is 40-50mm thick so they were vulnerable to pretty much anything that managed to flank them, plus the turret mantlet is only 100mm so latewar allied guns had little trouble shooting straight through the turret centerline. It's an impressive tank on some fronts but not really unkillable. You aren't going to win wars with tanks that are mostly not available or in maintenance.

Nice body - terrible interior! Gearbox and engine was too weak compared to the enormous body to move propperly. AH's infatuation with size doomed the development of armour suitable for the actual warfare needs.
