i’m thinking all these organizations that pretend to care about athletes are just going to put all the punishment on Kami and give the other athletes their medals so people won’t be pissed anymore and then keep letting Eteri win so they get their nasty child-abuse checks from the russian federation. 4 years is 2+ years more than what is written for this situation in WADA’s own rule book so this is insane and negligent to me. they just don’t want to do any of the hard work.

Former ballerina here, I took up figure skating as a hobby after I retired from ballet and I give ballet lessons to skaters now. I personally did not have any information on this but some very knowledgable person in our camp recently stated that the reason why the Eteri girls break down so quickly is related to how our bodies react to turning our backs in a fast motion. Even when you are just doing some stretches, turning your torso without moving your head and legs completely destroys your spine's shape; which is exactly what Eteri method is. It wouldn't surprise me that these girls will experience serious back problems as they grow up because they constantly, in a sense, dislocate their spinal discs. The proper technique for jumping very similar to ballet pirouettes, where you're supposed to turn your body and legs at the same time in a fast motion on your toes. The reason why they are harmed very easily go even beyond the malnourishment and the abuse. This is a topic without many researches unfortunately, but it is seriously harming these young children which will cause serious consequences for them in their adult years.

@@ChristineTheHippie Honestly, it could even be that all of them have/had them. The Eteri team seems to want to hide the back injuries even more than other injuries. We all knew at some point that Evgenia had a foot injury, but we didn’t know till waaay later that she also had a back injury. Trusova also has currently a back injury (we know now after she changed coaches), tursynbaeva can barely move now after a back injury and we got that from her mother years after it happened. The list of known injuries continues, and who knows who else might come out in the future saying they actually retired because of their backs. A broken arm or leg (bone) is harder to hide than a “broken” back.

The prediction of Kamila’s fate sounds so bad. She’s just a kid. I googled a little bit, apparently, she’s born in 2006, started skating at 2009, meaning she started skating at 3 years old. She’s gonna have her entire life ruined if this punishment is enacted and I’m 99% sure she’s not even responsible for this. Like she said, the 15 year old did not find 3 medications and consume them by herself, she did not. How traumatising it must be if this happens and she realises that Eteri never give a shit about her and just throw her to the sharks.

a correction on the doping case: the reason WADA went directly to CAS wasn’t because RUSADA decided to not publish further information on the case because of Kamila’s status as a protected person. They went directly to CAS because after RUSADA had completed their investigation in mid September and handed the case over to a domestic committee for a final decision that committee continued to postpone their meetings, and essentially refused to make a decision. WADA set a deadline for them to decide the case, and once that expired, they went directly to CAS.

Correction. Trusova was not given artistic programs along with her technical . People need to stop saying she has no artistry when you can see that in her past when she did her first quad jump . And with the programs that Plushenko gave trusova had more artistry. Just because it’s not a ballet style does not mean that it’s not artistry. The problem is here Eteri gave her all jumps that trusova wanted but gave her plain programs. That’s because Trusova having both combinations would outshine the rest of their favorites.

This double standard applies to basically anything, not just figure skating and not just sport in general. USA's mentality is built on highlighting (read as overhighlighting) every single accomplishment their people make - differently said the mentality you would expect from someone who calls their country the "best in the world" -, and they do it especially when they can use it as a way to make themselves appear as the "better ones" beside those they don't like (such as Russia). They always go for the "superstar, hero, prodigy" type of story and exaggerate the reality because people there can't get enough of it.

I would use shortcuts to push my body to try and be as fast and as good as the boys were, but those shortcuts never used the body properly and definitely didn't tone the muscles at all, because they bypass the requirement to use muscles. Understanding that male and female bodies are different helped me feel so much better about myself, and I wish society would stop pretending it's okay to keep trying to emulate things you cannot do. Less intense training that took the gymnast’s health into consideration prolonged the life of a gymnast’s competitive career. Also, not competing at every single competition and not competing on injuries helped extend the life of elite gymnastics careers. It has absolutely little to do with puberty.

Do I feel awful for Kamila? Absolutley. I don't believe it was her fault at all, she was barely 15. Do I think the ban should come into force? Also yes. Even though Eteri etc will unquestionably distance themselves from Kamila, there needs to be a decision, and there needs to be one that will at least try and show Russia that they are not an exception from the rules (even though we know that they can get away with a stupid amount) when it comes to clean sports. I feel awful that Kamila will suffer for this, and it should be the adults being punished, but to allow her to continue skating and recieve no repercussions would send an awful message to the rest of the world as to whether or not there is any integrity left in the administration of figure skating.

Don't get me wrong, testing positive for a banned substance should mean immediate disqualification, and I agree that she shouldn't get to keep the titles she won after giving the positive sample, because banned substances are banned for a reason. It just makes me so sad that this happened to her, that the people who were responsible for her did this to her. Her SP during the 21/22-season is absolutely beautiful, and I would have loved to see what she could have done if she'd had coaches who were interested in training skaters in a way that allows them to continue past the age of 18.

I feel horrible for Kamila, this is a lose-lose situation no matter what the final decision is. Letting her keep her gold medal would mean that the Tutberidze team has gotten away with doping, and it sends a message that Russians can continue their ways like they did for the past few years. Taking the medal away is basically punishing Kamila for something she probably wasn't even aware of, and it's heartbreaking if that happens. The IOC should never have allowed any Russian teams to compete at all. Everyone views ROC victories as Russian victories, Russian flag or not. It's not a real punishment, and it manifestly didn't stop the doping. Kamila Valieva is proof of that! The only way to stop the doping is to deny Russia the rewards they're seeking by doping. And that means maintaining the ban, without granting Russia any loopholes like competing under a slightly different name. Is it unfair to the athletes? Yes. But allowing Russia to continue competing cheats every athlete who played clean, and lost medals because of Russian athletes using performance-enhancing substances to take them. And the coaches of underage athletes with positive doping tests should also be subject to the exact same ban as the athlete in question. If Valieva is truly to be seen as a "protected person" due to her age, then Eteri Tutberidze is the person who should have been protecting her... and should suffer penalties for her dereliction of duty.

It's a very sad period in ladies figure skating. After being tested with drugs, Kamila valieva's dopring scandal, truly tarnished the 2022 Olympic figure skating event and cost her the gold in the ladies single event. When we look back at the 2021 season leading towards the Olympics, Kamila was skating with literally no injuries. While her team mates including Scherbakova, Trusova, Kostornaya and Usecheva were all subjected to injuries. She cotinually dominated every event she entered and consistently smashed record breaking scores that defied gravity. One has to wonder if the drugs that she was offered played any role in her performances even then? Nevertheless, Kamila, was treated like a hero in Russia despite the damage in which her positive doping test cost her fellow Russian teammates. She is a victim no doubt. Due to her age and the fact that her adult enterouge, including coach Tutberidze, her mother and doctor all let her down by making her a scapegoat for their greedy ambitions!

If she is going to claim that she's innocent, then she has to leave Eteri's team and reveal what's going on. If she's not going to do that, again i don't say this to judge or hate, but she's guilty and she'll be the one to blame. I would like to start out to say that I am a fan of Alexandra Trusova (so I might be biased). How often do you see a 13 year old say she will prove that woman can do as well as man in a sport ( NOT VERY OFTEN). She is very inspiring!!!! So when you question her "pushing the sport forward at the expense of her career", I did not like that. Let's just be clear, many people push sports/knowledge/teams/countries forward at the expense of their health. Sure, we would love to have a safe, healthy way of doing it. But before that safe Healthy way is invented, someone has to show people that it can be done. that it is not impossible!!!! Maybe the way Alexandra Trusova is doing Quads is not the most healthy, but that doesn't make her any less great! now that she has proven that it can be done, it is up to others to show that it can be done in a healthy way, to push for the impossible. What differs a professional Athlete from a regular sport lover, is the desire to push beyond what has been done in the past. Also, Alexandra Trusova is still not retired yet. the girls who retire early in the Russian camp did not do the quad. let's speak of this after she retire. Thanks

In my opinion. Any potential olympic contenders should be tested and examined months prior to the event to avoid a scandal. If not for the sake of all the athletes combined to have a beautiful experience at the Olympics then for the safety of the athletes mental health. I personally don’t agree with blasting a teenage girl. I don’t agree with cheating or doping. But I feel this could have been avoided if the build up to the Olympics was taken as serious as the event it’s self. When the results came in on the athlete, She should have been removed from the event and kept out of the social media and protected at all cost. Any athlete who is caught cheating should not be aloud to compete. The Olympics committee should have removed the underage girl from the event. Not allow her to embarrass herself on the biggest stage of her life. The decision for Kamila to skate should not have been left in hers or her coaches hands if they had proof of doping. Any athlete who tested positive for Covid-19 was not aloud to compete. Why wasn’t this the same outcome for a positive doping test?

There is a reason why doping it isn't just for fairness. It is because doping can damage you health in the long run by the side effects or in the short run because training when you body is past the limit increses your risk of injury! It should be the coaches getting the 4 year ban. For Valieva, I don't think it's her fault but I understand that given the scope of the case, they will do something. I think what would be fair is missing one season in order to find a new coach, and if during her first season back on the ice she continually tests negative, then she should be allowed to compete. At the end of the day, you know the adults are the ones that made the decision to dope her and they should be the ones punished for it. Even if it was Valieva's idea (doubtful), she is a child whose prefrontal cortex and decision making skills are just developing, and the adults should have put a stop to it. Either way, they failed her. They tried to play the system and got caught. Now, they will hang her out to dry.

I've said it before and I will say it again, Kamila cannot be the only one responsible for this. Like what if they just put those meds in something she was eating or drinking and she didn't even know? It's most likely the doctors told her to take them and she just did it without understanding what the meds are or what they do. I don't think she would willingly dope and cheat to win. She should face some repercussions, I agree with that. Whatever medals she won while on the three medications found in her system, strip those for sure, that would be more than deserved. It is very hard for me to look at this adorable, hamster cheeked kid and say, "Oh yeah, she totally made the decision to take those medications of her own volition with no influence whatsoever." Yeah, absolutely not. What I would like to see, is for a nonbiased agency to finally look into Tutberidze, because let's be honest, something ain't right. I've been here since the Yulia in Sochi 2014 days and that's when I fell in love with the Russian ladies to boot. My girl retired not long after due to injuries and ANOREXIA. LIKE WHAT. She's living her best life with her daughter now though, and I am very happy for her. But excuse me??? Alyona talked about Camp Crazy a bit in interviews after and I thoroughly enjoyed laughing as she shaded the f out of them, but I do wish she'd said more or that Zhenya had spoken out about it more. I genuinely think that the only way we'd hear about how it is for the Eteri girls is if Zhenya or Alyona speak out. Alyona just doesn't give a crap (love her, huge fan) and Zhenya (absolute queen, my favorite in every sense of the word) is well-established and very well loved and I don't think she'd face too much backlash. Honestly, this whole disaster is more sad to me than anything. I truly love Kamila very much and I always enjoy when she skates. She's such an adorable young woman with a great personality and watching her struggle through the free program, which they should not have allowed her to skate, was hard. These kids from the Eteri camp know they have one shot at Olympics or a few big international comps before they're tossed aside for the next girls' bodies to be used and then thrown away like trash. And now that Russia is not allowed in international comps, it narrows down their career timeline. Everyone knows that the Russian training regiment under Eteri is rough and taxing. And I think everyone knows, whether they admit it or not, that these girls are not treated as they should be. The health problems that Eteri girs face CONSISTENTLY is so questionable. BAN THE F OUT OF ETERI AND CO! I'd like to see them gone for a bit, see what these girls can do when they don't have to worry about the wrath of Eteri or their health. ZHENYA SKATED THE OLYMPICS ON A FRACTURE! And I know other Eteri girls have also been made to skate on injuries. Anya just had surgery recently. It's honestly madness and I would like to see Eteri knocked down a few pegs. Lord knows her massive ego needs it. Figure skating is an ARTISTIC sport, and the only recent girl I've seen actually perform in such a way is Zhenya Medvedeva. I would like to see the sport go back to what it used to be, with more performance, emotion, and artistry than whatever the Russian Robot Factory has turned it into.

Malinin in 2022 is comparable to Trusova in 2018 - at this moment it can't be said whether quad Axel for men will be the same as generally consistent quads for women: pushing the sport, but available only for the young and requiring training that shortens careers. When Trusova landed quad, only Lipnitskaya already retired and Medvedeva was still figthing to stay. It was pushing the sport further and there was not enough evidence that their method is so harmful. Now we know, because we saw this cycle of young Tutberidze skater doing genious things and then failing as they get slightly older again and again with Lipnitskaya, Medvedeva, Tursynbaeva, Kostornaia. Zagitova quit at the right moment and Shcherbakova most likely did the same now. Only Trusova is still fighting and Malinin could be an exception like her. We'll see in next couple of years.

They got the scores Literally what happened with Kamila there was timing fault by WADA who did not look up right in time all of the olympian’s tests. If WADA did test her right in time, she would have not competed and russians would have still got gold, cause other 2 girls got gold and silver individually. They never in their history even received scores low enough to bring 2nd place for the russian team on that event So it’s kinda ridiculous you consider canadian team receiving a medal at this point. BTW: surely the main doping fault is on Kami’s team but in terms of organization and competition itself it’s on WADA.

Eteri and her team should be investigated and banned as well, not just Kamila. They should look at all the skaters out of Team Eteri and what has happened with them down the line - eating disorders, serious back injuries, etc. Ou how I wish I could get on the Malinin boat, but yet here I am. He is all technical, no artistry and very much Nathan 2.0, just you know white and clearly pushed a lot harder sooner (I do not remember Nathan having gotten the same attention pre Pyeongchang, but I am happily wrong. However his artistic lacking was talked about a lot more and he was pushed to develop). Also Malinin benefits from the fact that he had endless video data to do the quad, because well Yuzuru Hanyu. Sorry, but it is known that his videos and technical ability is used to teach younger skaters so it isn't much of a reach. Malinin is not like Trusova, agreed, but if his whole thing is to save his ass with a 4A then...I mean Trusova saved her ass with jumps so I see why the comparison exists. Add to that Malinin please work on your knee bend, I beg of you. Honestly this is his first senior season and I wouldn't start talking about how he is pushing the sport - the 4A has been a discussion for so long, he didn't bring it to the table. What I have seen of him he needs a lot of artistic development, media training and stability only then I see him go beyond 2026. If we reward him solely for the 4A till 2026 Torino, then we won't see him beyond that as he will have all the titles and praise and nothing to spur him on.

Yes! Consequences have to happen. Not just on paper but duly enforced. Yes its a pity about Kamila and the adults around her must be punished too. This is a double edged sword for athletes young or old, gullible or innocent or ambitious who swallow a pill to move themselves forward because cheating is cheating and whatever merits you have are all dubious and suspect from thereon. Damned if they swallow pills and damned if they don't because they will get kicked out of the team. Lesson to Kamila and every athlete out there skate but don't swallow any cheat pill. I applaud WADA but where was that same determination when Maria Sharapova cheated. Her grandslam titles should've been taken away too! A cheat is a cheat no matter what the sport. And the best reason why Kamila needs punishment is to uphold honesty and integrity in sports. Think about athletes who work hard to be their best the old fashioned way. If me, or anyone really were to take a random drug test for their job, and tested positive for anything they test for, the job would probably fire you immediately. Your job won’t care how it happened, who gave it to you, or if you were unknowingly drugged, they just see you have tested positive. Why should this be any different, just because Kaliva may not have specifically known, she still tested positive whereas Alexandria who could do the same level of skills did not. It’s a sad situation, but rules are rules, and it’s not considered pushing the sport if you have to take banned substances in order to push the sport.

When it comes down to it & push comes to shove, it won't matter how long her ban even is, if Russia continues down this path politically & militarily . Russia's war could go on FOR YEARS. Some of these girls may retire by the time they're even ALLOWED to skate again internationally. And that's what I'm seeing. This war shows no sign of stopping.

Well that's a breakthrough, I thought that by the time they made a decision Kamila would be 80 years old. Anyway we all know that if the decision is between protecting kamila or maintaining eteri's empire, the "great team" will not hesitate to throw kamila to the lions. Poor kamila, she who feels so protected by her surroundings...
