I know that Kalki 2898 A.D is its own story and focuses on the kalki puran with a creative liberty. However, the director has taken visual inspiration from Star Wars, Dune and Matrix Revolutions. Although, that's not a bad thing, every movie is an inspiration of something else. Fun fact - The original Dune film came out in the 80s and the book was published in the 60s.

Fyi Dune the movie is based on a Novel series which was launched in like 80s or something, so the environment and character designs all are inspired from Dune/Starwars and the studio behind VFX for Kalki did the job for Dune too so be ready to see some similarities in shots

Hi this is the epic indian sci fi and mythology movie here it is based on the hindu god from ancient india will take 10th avatar in the future that is 800 years from now 2898ad and protect the people from the evil kali in the dystopisn future where the last city of world kasi,india is situated

It draws from the events at the end of the epic Mahabharata and the Mahabharata war in which the previous Avatar of Vishnu or Krishna is present as the charioteer and projects it to the next or 10th and final Avatar of Vishnu that is Kalki and to the imagined events of his birth at the end of Kali Yuga or the Age of Darkness. As per ancient Indian scriptures Kaliyuga starts with death of Krishna and ends with Kalki who destroys darkness and restores balance to the world and creation. Comparing it with anything else except a few stylisations is missing the point. If you really want to get the context read a little into at least the Mahabharata and the concept of yuga though at most places you will find wrong idea of timelines. The Character of Aswathhama (old man) played by Amitabh Bachhan is a character of Mahabharata who was cursed with immortality for his crime of killing unborn children in the mothers womb. Yes in Hindu tradition immortality is a curse as it prevents you from renewing yourself. Aswathhama lives through 6000 yrs to protect the unborn child that is destined to be the 10th Avatar Kalki and be released of his curse of immortality and bringing his Karma full circle. Madhava is another name of Avatar Krishna

It's completely okay to compare it with Dune as I myself being an Indian would agree that a bit of inspiration is taken from dune and star wars. But again Star Wars had references from hindu scriptures as well. Another movie is Matrix series which is completely based on the philosophies of Upanishad and Srimad Bhagvat Geeta.
