Kali Linux | How to Create an Invisible Computer
Ғылым және технология
Admit it, have you also dreamed of Harry Potter’s invisibility cloak? What about an invisible computer? Does that sound tempting?
In this video we will embark on the path of a data security Jedi and create a flash drive which can transform a normal computer into a powerful tool for protecting your data. We’ll discuss why Kali Linux is ideally suited for the role of an invisible computer, as well as how to install it whilst leaving no trace of your visit on the computer.
And, even if you screw up and leave behind a digital fingerprint, we’ll share with you a few tips on how to cover your tracks and disguise the formidable Kali Linux behind the familiar face of Windows 10. May all hackers of the nearest cafe’s public wifi fear the data security Jedi!

Firefox (in any Linux distribution and possibly Mac and Windows) has it built in. Chrome not. I installed installed an extension "Canvas Fingerprint". But it's annoying by confirming every successful spoofing of the fingerprint with a popup, and you cannot deactivate them. Like KZread will do again after I sent this. Anyone knows a Canvas Fingerprint extension which doesn't bring popups? Kali is cool btw. Have it on USB drive while running Debian Linux on the computer. For Debian I added nmap, wireshark and other "hacker tools", so it's almost Kali itself.

I already made this comment, but Tails, Whonix, and Qubes OS
Oh dear god..... no Kali for this... you should rather use Tails.... Kali Linux is a penetration testing version of Linux based on Debian with a rather heavy footprint. Not to mention if persistence is enabled the USB stick will contain whatever you had done..... If you are in need of privacy you should use Tails. Made from the engieers of the Tor network. Another solution would be Qubes OS which is a rather more demanding OS since it creates sandboxes for each application.... Please do NOT use Kali for this....

+1, I would love to see a remake of this video but with Tails OS instead. People need to learn about a "computer on a stick" but Kali is not the platform for that, Tails is the way to go.

@@robertpaulson8790 Tails is very hardened, has a kill-switch preventing cold boot attacks, can be started without root permissions, forces all traffic through the TOR-network etc. Kali doesn't do any of those. Kali is designed to be a swiss army knife for people working in cybersec and is in no way designed to be used as a main OS. It's Ubuntu with loads of tools. It is barely safer than using base Ubuntu. Not that there's anything wrong using Ubuntu, I do too - but Kali/Ubuntu are virtually identical being compared to something like Tails. I love Kali, it's a great tool and use it every day, but I would never use it as a main OS.

Great Video !!!
You might want to take a look at Estonian/Finnish privacy strategy: Government security organisations promote anonymity, strong encryption and extreme privacy for (own) citizens and domestic communication. Rather than lobbying for obtaining rights to breach privacy security agencies lobby for laws, education and resources to protect privacy to the max. Not a common strategy for anti-spy national security agencies. However, might be useful for folks abroad too. But how to get in? Namely, your privacy stops when data crosses national borders....

Very informative and useful video! One question - if, with some chance, the place where you shoot this video is with public access - where is it? I ask especially because of this vintage-looking gate behind and the fact that for the first time I see something like this indoors, instead of outside! It is a very modernistic place at least! Keep going with these videos. The format is entertaining and really useful, with a lot of value in it!
Tails is better in every aspect, kali is designed for security not privacy.

1. Everything you do is no safer than normal, just everything is wiped when you're done (and in some cases not even that happens). 2. Kali's security as an operating system is far suboptimal, because it's not designed to be ran as a daily driver or do much of anything outside hacking.
@lensofthenorth42
Жыл бұрын
@@sethadkins546 1. It offers you everything you need to stay anonymous with most settings easy to access and most tools being preinstalled. Yeah you still have to know what you're doing and it won't do your homework for you but neither will anything else really.. which is why channels like sumsub exist. 2. Kali Linux is just a debian based linux distro and as such it is no worse in thr security department than any other linux distro. Messing with some of the tools it provides could get you in trouble, but that's why I insisted you need to know what you're doing before doing it. The OS won't do your homework for you. It is a unix like OS and in the words of Terry Lambert: "It is not UNIX’s job to stop you from shooting your foot. If you so choose to do so, then it is UNIX’s job to deliver Mr. Bullet to Mr Foot in the most efficient way it knows." This applies to Kali Linux just as much as it does to Tails and anything else out there.
@sethadkins546
Жыл бұрын
@@lensofthenorth42 1. It doesn't, the only thing I can see providing any sort of anonymity is proxychains. Kali simply isn't designed for privacy, and there's no way around it. It's a step up from other OSs considering it's ran off a USB, but Tails works the exact same way and has more safeguards for privacy and anonymity (everything goes through Tor unlike in Kali). Trying to use Kali as a privacy tool is like trying to use a gun to block bullets. 2. It is less secure because its default configurations are for convenience rather than security. For example, you can run anything as sudo without a password on the default kali user (which didn't even used to exist, before it was just root which is a BIG security no no). And this isn't bad for Kali because it's simply not designed to be secure, it's a pentesting tool and nothing more.
@lensofthenorth42
Жыл бұрын
@Hoxton I don't think you understand the Linux kernel, or maybe what a Linux distro is. Kali Linux is typically meant to run in a virtual machine, when you run it from a bootable USB without installing it on said USB, you would basically be matching the main point of tails (that nothing gets saved past a reboot). Unless you can list any vulnerabilities unique to Kali itself from all deb based distros I am done here.
@sethadkins546
Жыл бұрын
@@lensofthenorth42 Dude. Specific distros dont have their own vulnerabilities. Thats not how it works. But that doesn't mean they're equally safe. But like I already said, the default Kali configuration and settings is far different than a default Debian configuration, and far less secure in the ways I already told you in my second comment. Normally Sumsub makes quality videos but they definitely messed something up in their research big time with this video.
As far as I'm aware there will be traces of Kali in the ram that are recoverable.
Wait, doesn't tails and others are better. Kali is for hacking and learning, not daily use and privacy
Tails is honestly better for most users
I'd just like to point out a pretty simple way of hiding location - change your time zone by 12 hours, so instead of UTC-4 like in the video you change it to UTC+8. That way you still have an easy way of having accuratish time but they don't know where you're from. No Mr Robot spec but it works for basic browsing.
@ghost-user559
Жыл бұрын
A lot of privacy distros do that for you already and it might actually make you easier to identify in some cases. I know whonix already does a fake time zone to help make your browser fingerprint more anonymous. I don’t know what the effects of choosing random times if the browser is secretly still telling the internet the actual time zone you are in. Might just give you a false sense of security.
@robertpaulson8790
Жыл бұрын
@@ghost-user559 Yeah it's not an excellent method - but if you're just trying to accomplish convincing a Web site you are from a different country it works in addition to a VPN. Like people think a VPN hides their location but literally every website has access to that time zone data
This video is an absolute joke and was not researched very well. Kali Linux is a specialized distribution that was designed to give you hacking tools, and was NOT designed to be used to browse the internet privately. (At least not out of the box). Tails is a live operating system that is meant to be flashed onto a flash drive that not only provides privacy out of the gate, but also anonymity. It comes bundled with the Tor browser, a powerful web browser that anonymizes your web browsing. Honestly, This video is spreading some pretty misleading information, and I would take this video down and make a new video focusing on Tails with this idea for an “invisible computer”. If you still want to a make a video focusing on an “invisible hacking computer” with Kali, then go ahead, but at least make it clear that it’s meant to be used for pentesting and not some kind of online privacy tool for the average person.
Sumsub makes videos on privacy but sells KYC services. KYC is anti privacy!
