Maaan, that bit where he's just casually flying over the civilians, and they spot him with such excitement, knowing they're being looked after...that right there, is why this film was so endearingly charming. They really captured the essence of Superman that the newer films rarely show. It's not always about the grandiose fights against big monsters. It's those little moments from the perspective of the civilians where they just feel so safe seeing their hero.

@@Longlivethechannel the city got destroyed because there's literally another world engine in the city and in the indian ocean, he has to choose one and zod is fighting him. Collateral damage has always been part of superman's fights because he's strong than an average human being, Look at superman 2, there's a lot of collateral damage there as well.

@@absolutelyabsolute4671 Not all Superman fights have collateral damage. The reason Man of Steels fights work is because he is new to being a superhero. He hasn't had experience fighting superpowered beings in a world that, to him, is made up of cardboard. But Routh/Reeves Superman is an experienced Superman by now; he knows to take the fight away from populated areas, hence why there isn't that much destruction in those films. Not that there isn't ANY destruction, but there is far less damage in Superman II than in all of Man of Steel.

And he gently floats away, instead of leaping and making a giant crack in the road. I never saw the point of this trope in superhero media, all it seems to do is cause more damage, why not just take off gently and then gather speed once you're off the ground?

The whoosh as he passes by The camera following him perfectly, Yes, that little girl exclaiming "Superman", LOVE her, love that reaction; A child's reaction. And the mother reaching for her, but missing because even SHE's in awe of what she just witnessed, not even breaking her gaze to get the child, lol, accurate reaction. Seamless shot. A pov shot from a street corner, going home from work or from a child's perspective, seeing a man deadass fly overhead while everyday life moves on. No DBZboss fights, yet it's the LITTLE details are what's memorable.

He is truly alone! The performance of Brandon Routh conveys this. Henry Cavill would generate a different feeling, because his acting persona I have seen in all 3 of his performances is different. It's not a swipe at Cavill. Routh has a different acting approach in his interpretation. A bit more stoic & self reflective. Many people, I'm sure prefer Cavill. I see a little of myself in Routh's performance, as many do.

The idea of Superman being gone for five years and comes back to find that not only has Lois moved on but the entire world has as well made for a great story, they should have kept that going and expanded it into a new series of movies with him trying to find his place in the world again. It would have been amazing I think and Brandon Routh did a wonderful job in carrying that weight and emotion on his shoulders, just wished we got to see more of that but I'm really excited to see him back in the suit one more time for the crisis crossover this December

He’s likable, interesting, and you actually care what happens to him. The score is phenomenal, and the visuals are top notch. But most importantly…the screenwriter and director understand Superman. They get it. They know what he represents and how to convey that feeling to an audience. In the genre, this movie is a gem and tragically underappreciated.

This is one of the best films I have ever seen because I prefer to understand characters and for characters to have aubstance. It is also the character that was developed in the classic Christopher Reeve films and Smallville. It shows Clark/Superman to be a person. I don't watch films like the Avengers etc because I don't like the darkness and the unnecessary violence in the films. I think we need to understand that fighting evil does not need to be violent but through understanding.

A lot of people will say this feels like a superman movie whilst trashing the newer version of superman, put it this way this movie already had Reeves version behind it so it made sense why it was the way it was it didn't need to start up a story or new chapter of him being superman it just was that whilst keeping the Reeves touch in the movie. On top of this man of steel a lot of people hating on it because it's different, man of steel is a more realistic take on the character and shows us what would happen if in fact an alien did come to earth do. That is why Iove man of steel and love this movie too both are great in their own ways. Man of steel was trying to retell the story of superman whilst returns already had the story of superman behind it with already 2 movies behind it as superman 3 and 4 just got deleted from existence as they were poor movies.

This scene actually made this movie endeared to critics. Several pointed out that his lone flight in silent darkness over the city summed up the essence of his never ending watch and it was a scene done with utmost subtlety both defining the character and making for a silently striking realistic visual.

it was powerful. kal-el has always struggled with it. even tho you've been raised as ahuman being...you're not one of them. and it shouldn't matter. he's loved regardless of whether hes from somewhere else or not, whether he's different or not but it still shows that people from somewhere else or people who are different, still feel like something is missing.

I know I am in the minority, but I really like this movie. I liked how they paid homage to the Christopher Reeve movies and made it a continuation of those rather than do a whole reboot. I also loved the Marlon Brando lines that were in it and how Kal-el repeats some of the lines to his son. There were some things that weren't done well in the movie, but I felt overall that they did a good job with it.

One thing they added to Superman Returns that you never see in other renditions is something from the comics, his eyes. Brandon Routh wore blue contact lenses that made his eyes an exceptional shade of blue. In the comics, Superman's eyes are supposed to be strikingly blue, and it seemed like the Superman Returns crew were drawing attention to his eyes as much as possible.

There's nothing wrong with Cavil's accent. Both performances were good. Routh did more of a straight Reeve impersonation which was nice after so long without a Superman film but Cavil has made the role his own and is doing a great job.

The flying shots are the best in this Superman movie. In Man of Steel it's too loud or fast for the viewer, the SFX weren't as good in the original Superman (1978). But in this movie they have the technology to show it properly, and they make good stylistic choices as well. He flies gracefully and effortlessly, and it's nice to look at.
