Kakimori Nibs vs My Fave Dip Pens - Review & Test Stationery Supplies w/ me!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

After nearly selling my set of Kakimori metal nibs, followers on my Instagram demanded I explain why I’d changed my mind. I received enough DMs to prompt making this video so I could answer everyone all at once! In it, I compare the differences between my favorite dip pen nibs, tools, and how I use each to accomplish various effects in writing. I love stationery, reviewing my tools, and sharing my findings with others. I hope you like it and that my commentary helps!

Wow, that nib holder is beautiful! I’m consuming all videos on the brass nib… ‘cos I’m trying to talk myself in or out of one… cos $85-99 NZD, ouch! But…I’m obsessed 😂 You could also use one of those silicone clay sculpting paint/art brushes for swatching instead of the w/c brush… that would give you the same “scrape”…. if you didn’t have a Kakimori. Omg… your desk! 🫶 I’m the same way, I have a double craftroom full of all the supplies for almost every craft/art out there…. I’m almost more addicted to buying supplies than using them…. But I love your aethestic! I, too, just sit at my desk (currently knitting while watching YT at my desk), cos it’s my happy place too, surrounded by all my pretties, pens, pencils, yarn, clay, markers, paints, fabric, sewing machines, etc 😂😂😂😂

Bahahaha wooow. Your craft room sounds just like mine. This is my main desk featured in the video, but I have two more desks in my office. One is for art, the other is for crafting and whatever else I decide to do on it! So I know what you mean. My little office is also jam-packed full of hobby supplies. 😂 I think I’m the same as you in that I collect supplies more than I use them. But I recently reorganized my office to make my favorite tools easier to reach, and now I at least have easier access to all of my stamps, coloring pencils, markers, and anything else I need! Highly recommend a complete office reorganization, haha. It’ll fuel your creativity even more.

Cheri, I have absolutely no interest in the vast and colorful world of ink but I enjoyed listening to you talk so much, haha! It was super insightful and I'm sure the little details you pointed out about each dip pen would be very helpful to others. Can't wait to watch more regular talking videos from you 🫶

Hahaha I’m actually so surprised to hear this since you work primarily with fountain pens and Tomoe River Paper!! Thank you Ngoc. :)) Read your comment to my husband it was so nice. 🥰🙏

I’m really happy it helped! It’s so interesting seeing people decide to either get something or not get something based on all the rambling I did in the video. I definitely didn’t sugarcoat my reactions, so some people walked away either saving money or… or spending more. LOL. I think you’ll be happy with your choices either way! They’re fun.

Small comment -- I just bought myself a Kakimori nib after learning about them. I'm not new to the world of pen and ink, but I am new to dip pens because as a left-hander, they've always been the most frustrating things in the world for me. It's so nice to see another left-hander using artistic ink pens!! I'm eager to use them with watercolor pans as well -- that seems to make them usable for en plein air situations as well.

Yes I have a friend who uses hers exclusively for art! I use waterproof ink for my linework in fountain pens and have travel brushes fine enough for linework as well, so I don’t really have a use for a dip pen when traveling. But I used to bring around one of those Tachikawa nib holders since it has a cap!

@@eggbunni Yes, I bought myself a Tachikawa for the same reason. :-) I also noticed that I can get a glass nib to not dump a blob of paint or ink on the page when first starting by dipping it only halfway and then holding it so the tip points up for just a second. It seems to make the inevitable glob of ink on the tip run slightly up into the channels that way, so it draws well from the start. I'm going to try it with the Kakimori nib when that arrives and see what kind of difference it makes if any. Subscribing now!

Oooo. Interesting tip. Definitely going to try this with my Herbin glass pens. They tend to run much broader than my other favorite glass nibs!

Thank you for this video! I’ve been agonizing the last few days over whether to get the Iro-Utsushi vs Kakimori. I’m going to go with the Pilot for now. Having to use scratch paper seems like a waste of ink. I’d rather re-dip. I do like with the Kakimori you can write and do heavy swatches, but that alone isn’t worth the price.

You won’t regret the Pilot dip pen. It’s just so CONSISTENT. The medium nib is my favorite. I have the fine, but almost never use it. I suppose if I was drawing I’d use it as it does have a really fine line? But the medium is more satisfying for showing off ink properties. :)
