I agree plus I loved the ending of it. Ishizu's existence with the Millennium Necklace was actually a really sad existence. She saw the future so she came to the conclusion that "What I see, is what I'll get". She has nothing to hope for, nothing that might give her the luxury of doubt which was her tragedy because in the manga she said that she only predicted a future of darkness and possibly her own death to it and yet she was convinced there was nothing she could do about it. Kaiba actually taught her that no matter what she sees, one small change to it might change the future, that someone must risk breaking the chain of fate and future in hoping for the best. Ishizu predicted the future and was convinced of it. Kaiba broke free from the foul circle and Ishizu is grateful to him for it. Their duel is indeed very deep and very epic at the same time.

I like the fact that Kaiba had a deep, meaningful vision of his past life, where he was cradling a dead woman's corpse and was overcome with grief... and the thing he fixates on in this vision is a carving of a Blue-Eyes White Dragon in the background. He doesn't even consider the possibility that anything else in that vision might matter at all.

All he is given is a tiny tiny glimpse of his past self particularly his grief over his dead lover (?) which was reincarnated as Blue Eyes White Dragon. He trusted Blue Eyes not because of the carving but subconsciously he knows Blue Eyes is significant to his past self.

This is a very fitting moment for Seto Kaiba for a multitude of reasons: 1) Screw the rules - and the future! 2) He establishes that it's his pride that makes him duel, and keeps him as one of the best duelists in the world. 3) It really establishes that his past self/ancestor used the Millennium Rod, and there's still a connection between it and him. 4) Kaiba was never one to believe in the myth and lore of Ancient Egypt and it's connection to Duel Monsters. But, in this moment, he chose to believe in what the Rod showed him, and in doing so, avoided the 'defeat at his own hands'. It shows he can at least "listen to his cards, as a duelist." 5) He sacrificed A GOD for his Blue-Eyes. If that's not establishing his 'means to an end' character trait, I don't know what is. TLDR: Kaiba is bad ass, and so is that music.

@@exequielbreton4393 It's a joke from the abridged series of the anime.. Just fyi. And yes it's a 90/00's kids thing. The game was simplistic and straight forward back then, so I doubt kids now a days would be into it with how many rules, and different effects they'd have to keep up with.

The girl he was holding, and the reason for the sadness he had inn his heart upon seeing her in his memory was his girlfriend in a past life who had a powerful dragon _ka_ known as the blue eyes white dragon. 3,000 years later that girl is now reincarnated as the blue eyes white dragon and without him realizing it, Kaiba's favorite monster turned out to be his past girlfriend. An unbreakable bond that transcends time. 😥

The character name is Zeke. Ofc, you have to set the audio to Japanese in the settings to hear the voice actor

This is honestly one of the best moments in the entire series. The soundtrack along with Kaibas Japanese voice acting, everyone acting in shock and surprise, Kaiba finally accepting his heritage (sort of) - just amazing. Of course it's kinda plot armored, because Ishizu's trap would still work, but still lol.

Perhaps, there is a Yami Kaiba in him who is actually Priest Seto himself, he just doesn't know it yet.

For the entirety of BC, Kaiba's been using Obelisk on a power high to the point his signature Blue-Eyes, which he clearly took pride in and offense to seeing misused, became the opening act or even just fodder for Obelisk (the Duel robot, Tributes against the first Tag Ghouls, and then the play for Lumis/Umbra before Obelisk as the winning move). Now here the winning move (unbeknownst to him mechanically, just a matter of character) is to drop Obelisk for Blue-Eyes, and even against Yugi that becomes the case with the real meat of the duel being when the Gods both go down and he breaks out the dragons. Even works for the filler where Blue-Eyes is not only Kaiba's main play, but has its personal significance brought up with all the backstory around him and Mokuba. Reading a lot into it perhaps but I think it's a nice sign of bringing Kaiba's character back around.

What is even funnier about this is that in the TCG "Blast held by a tribute" Destroys your attack position monsters and cause 1000 damage if you declare an attack with a tribute summoned monster, so since he tributed for his Blue Eyes White Dragon he will get the effect anyways.

Well if he had attacked he would have lost, his sacrificing obelisk was actually an unintentional brilliant move. Blue eyes has been and always will be a badass over powered card, but this one saved him the duel. Or at least I think I remember him winning it. Cant remember.

I know everyone loves to meme "I'll sacrifice god" but man, "What is this sadness pounding in my chest" feels just as memeable. Also, this scene is so good.

Sometimes the best move really is the one that seems like the most ridiculous and uncool. I love how this show has this moment, because those moments happen more often than not!

that true he did screw the rules. he was about to attack with obelisk which means he was in the battle phase. he activated a magic card and sacrifice during the battle phase.

This scene never gets old

What adds another cool layer of depth to this scene is ishizus reaction at the end. At first glace for the un initiated, she might seem devastated and crushed to have seen her clairvoyance deviated and it leading to her defeat, quite the contrary ishizu's reaction is actually bewilderment and elation at the fact than she was proven first hand that the future CAN be changed by the choices we make, and therefore her brother Marik was not bound by fate to fall into eternal darkness at the hands of his other personality. She even later says herself, her odds of defeating marik were low even if she did defeat kaiba. This was the best possible outcome for her, an outcome she never before considered possible, and I think that makes this scene even more of a masterpiece than it already was.

Well I'm religious yet when I actually read the holy book. I find the word "gods" many times. However ofc they aren't real. They are a myth. So you can't really take the literal meaning of God. It's logically impossible for 2 gods to exist. considering that God is omnipotent and two makes no sense. It's like attacking the indestructible shield with the sword that can destroy anything. Which is why monotheism makes sense. You are lost right? Yea me too...

Can we just take the moment to appreciate that in the Japanese dub, Kaiba actually believes the visions of the Egyptian past?

I find it kinda funny that kaiba says the blue eyes has his pride and soul in it when the way he got those cards was by either blackmailing the original owner, almost stealing their company, or beating them up. I haven't read it for awhile but I think that's the way kaiba gets the 3 blue eyes. you'd think he wouldn't be able to use them like how he couldn't use yugi's grandpa's card.

i can see why the other characters were surprised and upset, i can’t believe it myself, why’d he tribute Gadget Soldier?

Because just Obelisk wasn't a worthy enough sacrifice for Blue Eyes, stupid Obelisk

I'm a dub guy myself, but I make exception for Yu-Gi-Oh. The dub is iconic, but the sub is superior due to the content alone, and the voice acting is still fantastic.

@@EddyBravo that my only problem with as well thought dub had a beater toon world theme i sorry Japanese soundtrack is great and it and English are interchanable for me but Japanese toon world sucks

@@TheDiazDarkness They did. The rules and the phases were part of the OCG and TCG. All the old video games released before this arc had them too. They only differed on things like fusion and things that were harder to program for video games.

@@whyisblue923taken The manga came out before the OCG and TCG. The Duelist Kingdom arc came on 1996, the card game on 1999 in Japan, and on 2002 on the west. While the Duel Monsters idea existed from before the manga turned into the card game series we know. The manga didn’t follow the same ruleset and card design we know of today. Even several games that came out based on the duel city arc have elements that only existed on the manga and not the ocg. Look at the ruleset of the gba game the Sacred Cards, it follows the manga ruleset and not the tcg and plays veeery different.
