It’s a boy for giant pandas Kai Kai and Jia Jia, who welcomed their firstborn at River Safari on 14 August 2021. After close to a month in the warm embrace of Jia Jia’s loving care, the panda cub is doing well and steadily growing day by day.

Unlike Taipei Zoo, Singapore River Safari let Mummy Jia Jia to nurse her cub 24/7. Taipei Zoo nursed Yuan Zai & Yuan Bao for first 30 days before returning the cubs to Mummy Yuan Yuan. Cheers.

I think it is a conditioning of being able to handle the baby. She has looked after him for 30 days not being handled by the carers. It is getting the Mum used to it being touched as I’m sure just like dogs they can be very protective of their babies. Also it probably is they want to take the baby for weighing and checking etc.

They are conditioning mom, so they can interact with the cub. They need mom to let the Nanny's examine baby. She's getting plenty of treats and love.
