Kaguya-Sama is significantly better than you remember

Ойын-сауық

Kaguya-Sama: Love is War has solidified itself as one of my favorite love stories of all time, oh and it's also one of my favorite comedy animes as well. So I decided to make an hour long video analyzing it. This took so long to make, hope you enjoy it :)

A video essay of a beloved story that isn't simply a plot summary? This is my lucky day!

Holy shit man. Simply phenomenal essay. Really loved your take on what makes this anime goated. You probably have watched, but doesn't hurt to say. Mothers Basement also did a very comprehensive essay about Kaguya. You should. check it out as well.

Thanks for the compliment! I think I tried to avoid mother's basements video when I was working on mine to not be influenced by their POV. I'll check it out now that this one is done

Round of applause! As someone who rarely watches romance anime (nothing against them, and there are a few I love, like "Ouran High School Host Club") this one still managed to become one of my favorite animes. You've done an excellent job explaining why it's so compelling, and now I love it even more than before. Can't wait for a fourth season!

Absolutely loved this video. The character relationships web in and of itself was a delight to see expressed in visual space. But the character arc analysis took it to a whole new level I've not explored in the two times I've watched through the show. You've given me a lot for a third viewing.

At a certain point though, could you not say a manga and an anime are two separate entities/canons, despite one being based off the other? You could say we're pretty blessed to experience adaptations be so incredibly faithful to their source material, in cases such as with anime from manga/novels. In many other cases, standards can be very different. Hell, even anime a decade or two ago, but especially longer ago, didn't feel a similar amount of need to adhere so closely to the source. To me, then, just because anime in more recent years have gotten a lot more faithful and accurate to the source, it doesn't mean they _are_ the same entity. What happens in the manga could probably be considered canon to the anime if the anime doesn't contradict it, but, if the anime never showed it, how could an anime-only be scrutinized for holding a certain opinion just because it conflicts with something that was shown or said in the manga? Personally, while having extra knowledge from the source can probably be a plus, I don't think it's the be-all-end-all. Kaguya-sama: Love is War simply is the anime it is. It showed what it showed, didn't show what it didn't show, said what it said, and didn't say what it didn't say. Any conclusion derived from that is still a valid conclusion, in my eyes. I wouldn't say information from the source would falter any of these points. At least, not as heavily as you might imply.

@Querez8504 No I agree with you, it's just that some of these points actually change with information from the manga that the anime doesn't reach yet (please continue A-1 🙏) but anyway I'm not discrediting his points, all I was saying was if the anime is continued and the source was adapted some of the points would change or be wrong. Obviously though, like you said, we can't fault anyone because the anime hasn't got that far yet.

amazing stuff. I originally started watching Kaguya-Sama after watching Mother Basement's analysis of it that was over an hour long, and now I finally found a worthy successor to that video. 10/10, just like Kaguya :)

Thoughtful and substantive perspectives are scarce online especially in anime reviews, as I got fed up of frivolous anime reviews built with comedic interjections and sound effects. I came here through your friren video, and please keep adding stuff like these

Amazing video, especially that last stretch when building up to and covering the film. Your point about the difference between longing and love was spot on and its so true that the movie dials in on that too. It's what really elevated the story to the next level. It's what makes the rest of the manga so good too; seeing Miyuki and Kaguya continue to work together as a team to navigate everything that comes their way. You much of a manga reader? I'd recommend it cause who knows if the anime will continue to adapt it.

Ive recently been reading more manga. I was never super into it but at some point you catch up to too many series in production. Then eventually you acclimate because some of the stories are so good. I'll probably start reading kaguya sama tonight actually
