This is what has become of a lot of the empty housing units that were left empty when they closed the base down.

I was born on this base on Jan. 27th 1969. My dad said when he brought me home he had to carry me over his head, the snow was that deep. Just wanted to check it out. Spent my childhood in England then finally Barksdale AFB in Louisiana. RIP dad.

The base has cleaned up a lot. I live out here and it's not bad at all. They tore down those abandon buildings, I'm pretty sure they're working on the abandon buildings near Ave. A. next.

Was born on the base in the early 70's, sad to know the place you were born is crumbling to the ground

I live on base and I have to tell you that it all DOESN'T look like this! A lot of these empty and shabby places have been torn down now and it looks as though the person filming this is going around in circles filming the same places from different angles. Many places still need lots of work but there are some really nice places and people out here

I lived there from 1982 to 1988 on Explorer Street. In front of the tennis court and shopette. Took my wife and showed our boys where I did part of my growing up...very sad to have seen the condition of the base.

This is very sad what has become of this base. I was a base brat there in 93' and 94'. Many of my childhood memories are from there. We use to live on Albatross Street. If you ever film again could you get a shot of that street?

Yeah the south and west sides of base are still alright. The people there are more classy pill heads instead of straight up junkies. Also what house were you on albatross

We were at Wurtsmith twice with a tour in the Philippines 68-70. I think we had better housing's. Still it's a shame that life and support to the community is gone.

Mostly bad news out there. The gym and pool were driven into the ground and the siding is mostly all fallen off. Very sad to see. I was ex- Navy and know what that base would have looked like in its day. Vandals and lack of local police to control it. Shameful way to leave that facility.

I was stationed here from 80-88. I moved back in 2015. Slumlords are now being made to clean up their properties. and fined heavily. the really bad ones are in Marquette County Jail. Crime Watch along with Local LE and UPSET have done an awesome job. parent's are being held accountable for their Children's misconduct. Since I liaison with LE as a retired Federal Officer, things have improved. but it took residents to turn things around. it's. getting better.
