Whether or not you actually like her cover, you have to be able to respect the talent and passion she has for music. There is a lot of music that I don't care for, but I respect the artists. I had never heard of k.flay until I saw her at River's Edge in St. Paul and I became a fan even though I don't care for a lot of hip hop. If nothing else, just pay attention to the word play in her lyrics, it's absolutely brilliant.

K. Flay doesn't have to apologize for any reason! She expresses her feelings through music!

Too many people think a cover should be exactly like the original, and that's just nonsense. Any true artist will do a cover in their own style, only cover bands try to do it as close to the original as possible. It's the talented peeps that put their mark on it.

Firstly, "hating" is a silly childish bastardization of that word, so please go find yourself a good grammar book and read it. Second, art being what it is, is always open for criticism, particularly art for the sake of entertainment. Thirdly, just because a large number of people do not like something that makes you swoon in your panties, does not make them haters - it makes them people who don't like this cover of a song much older than the panties you are wearing. Me thinks, Mr Martindale you need to understand that your choice of what is good, bad, or indifference, is not the be all and end all. Your taste is not what defines a whole heck of a lot. As a matter of fact, it doesn't amount to much of anything at all. So try not to consider your observations as all that important. I know it might be a knock to your sense of self, but it's better you learn now while your still young. Also, would I be very wrong to point out that in your short life, you have at more than one occasion trashed something because you found it unpalatable? Wouldn't you then be considered a, as you say - hater? Being that I am speaking to you from 2021, you may have grown a bit more since you wrote this and might just understand a little better - or you may be dead, who knows. . . In which case, from that side of this circus I would hope your range of understanding should now be much more inclusive.

@hoofhearted44 I would argue that she has indie rap talent. That's an entirely different world from singing for Billboard, but that doesn't mean she's less talented. I think it's just not her thing, and I also think if anyone who had a name in areas like Billboard tried to perform in an indie rap show, they might make a fool of themselves just as much as K. Flay does here.

Bad songs get awards all the time, not to say this is a bad song, but any talentless dummy could get lucky and win a Grammy, you saying she won a Grammy isn't saying much

I can appreciate her cover musically, but I think I dislike the inserting of rap verses into old songs more

@horsenaround no way! you got it all wrong, it's such a fun song. you just gotta enjoy it for what it is. i get that not everybody likes having their favorite songs touched or changed in certain ways, but then you can just go back and listen to the original - it's okay, it's still there, man!

Honestly,this isn't k.flays best work,but you try handling a laptop,keyboard,and launchpad all at once and tell me how it goes. K flay is a great rapper and fairly decent singer when she's in her element. Especially when most rappers only rap about money and women. She was just out of her element here. Listen to "everyone I know" and "Get it right" Those are two of her best songs and they truly represent her.

it was okay until she added her own lyrics. if you listen from 1:08 to 1:30 (without looking at her annoying "rapper" movements) it can be midly enjoyable.

Wow. If I wanted to see someone hit 3 keys over and over and press some buttons on a laptop I'd go to Starbucks and order a coffee. Is she supposed to be a talent? Sorry if she does something impressive later on, a minute was all I could stand. Talk/singing a classic created by real talented people is hardly impressive by any standard.

How is she untalented? Yes this may not be k flay at her best,but at least listen to her original works before you say she isn't talented. She also plays guitar and drums and is a great songwriter. Listen to "everyone I know" by k flay and then tell me if she has talent.

Because when this was made,she was still trying to find her element. This was when kflay was just starting. She had barely started developing yet. Listen to some of her new stuff like "everyone I know" and "Get it right" Those are some of her best works. She doesn't just use a launchpad. She also plays guitar,drums,and piano.and she produces her own music without any band or producer. Juggling all of that is really hard,yet she manages it and has garnered a large following for it. And even if she truly is nothing special,at least she doesn't rap about money and cars exclusively like most rappers.

If your gonna diss someone spell the other artists right. It Skrillex and snoop dogg. She has better stuff.
