Most adults are pathologically incapable of seeing kids as people. No joke. Kids are not allowed to have their own slang or toys or anything without adults getting upset. Kids choosing to hang out more with friends or differimg opinions than their elders are see as delinquent. Childhood is seen as a UNIVERSAL experiemce, while adulthood is an INDIVIDUAL experience. Kids arent allowed to be different, worldly/nuanced.

I remember the kids in my high school being absolute sh*ts and looking for any opportunity to indulge in substances, hurl abuse and watch/act out violence. I'm not sure if teenagers today are that much better, but they're certainly no worse. Just remember, people in ancient Rome watched gladiators fight to the death and slaves get eaten by lions for entertainment. I think people today will be just fine if they watch the latest Saw or play the latest Mortal Kombat.

Personally, I think the core of juvenoia is *envy.* We tend to hate young people because we want what they have: the mere fact that they aren't as close to the end of their lives as we are. We've lived long enough to know that a person's youth is a special, irreplaceable thing. And we tend to feel like such a precious thing is being wasted on those who gain it at the same time that we lose it.

2020 is only the beginning. In the US alone, 45% of renters face eviction, 49% in my home state and 59% in West Virginia. The unemployment and homelessness crisis caused by Corona will not unify a nation aware of the oligarchs influencing our plutocratic state, the lobbyists selling lies to kill us for profit. We know that even without Corona we have already doomed our earth and ourself. We know that bigotry and oppression have never left us. Knowing this, we will not return to what once was when a vaccine allows us to return to the streets. As we vote in an election decided before the world turned upside down, the homeless masses will speak to each other in hushed tones, and those once brainwashed by the false glory of conservatism will feel their belly ache from lack of food, realizing that platitudes cannot be consumed. America will shake and burn, riots will fill the streets as China grows in power. For if we do not escape our broken politics, the planet dies and so do we. And time and time again, it has been proven that we cannot escape our broken politics with peace.

If the census was informal, and required each person to write short paragraphs that described their lives, then wouldn't every single collected anecdote, all 300,000,000 of them, when ordered and systematized, reveal the average age, household number, etc. of a country. Those anecdotes, when collected on a massive scale and when formalized, would yield data. I think this is what you mean, but, of course, put in my words.

A lot of data is just many many many anecdotes. The difference between anecdote and actual data is quantity & specificity, no? At least for the polled data used in statistical analysis. You have to be sure to analyze as few aspects & as many instances as possible, but if we're using "anecdote" in the sense of "one person's experience or story", then ye, I'm pretty sure that's how it works.

It’s like we fear the new generation so much that we’re actually making up excuses to be pessimistic about them. like bruh most of them aren’t even old enough to read or write and we’re already deciding that they’re “doomed”.
