A nice combo of a player with staggering technical proficiency, but still makes the guitar seem approachable when he talks about it. He has the ability to “explain like I’m five” and also seems to not have forgotten what being a beginner or intermediate player feels like

that's so true man. I'm not an expert but I really don't remember being a beginner or intermediate or how it feels like unless someone makes a similar mistake.
This guy is sooo cool. Hes so chill that he doesn't make me feel like my double stops are absolute garbage

Some teachers (any subject you choose) can't teach - for me, at least, the teacher's attitude, temperament and voice are what m'brain uses to give or deny access. This vid went straight to the centre - playing a whole song with double stops just blew my mind and made "other stuff" fall into place - a few more things just fell into place. Grateful for this.
Been playing for ever and thank God for this guy. It's something about how kind he seems that helps it not seem so intimidating
Justus not only a top knotch musician and amazing player but also an outstanding communicator with amazing vocabulary and skills to teach! Blown away amazing !

what an amazing fun and clear teacher, made me feel capable of learning something new that actually sounds cool. Thanks!

Much gratitude to you, Justin.
A well done video by a master.

OK, Justus makes me want to work harder on my triads. Also makes me want a strat even more cuz I love his sound! Gotta wait for the rona to end first :D Thanks!

do a set of strings triads + inversions every week and sing the chord tones (1-3-5; 3-5-1; 5-1-3) and play music with it, should be a good way to get them all down. from major to minor to diminished to maj7 and min7 triads.

@@alexfvcruz rock on, that is awesome. I will add that to my practice schedule. Getting ready to practice major & minor triads on strings 2/3/4 in about..well right about now actually...
@alexfvcruz
3 жыл бұрын
@@nixternal it took me 2 years to go thru them all. it can be boring, you have to suck it up. try starting with the top strings since those are more useful for lead guitar playing.
@nixternal

@@alexfvcruz oh yeah, getting ready to finish up my 14th month of learning guitar. I have the top 3 strings down pretty good with triads as I've been using them in place of chords in songs I've already learned. Getting fairly decent with strings 2/3/4 after working probably a couple of months on them. I like noodling with triads because they sound more "lead" than rhythm & it breaks up the monotony of the typical stuff you learn the first year or 2 (chords, barre chords, scales).
Amazing tone in the beginning
Thanks Justus!
Wow! Thank you.
Justus is the man.
Okay but teaching aside, this guy is a GREAT player
This lesson is great! Clear and concise and a few good smiles along the way! Phenomenal teacher! 🙌

Hey! I know you! Mac Miller tiny desk concert!. amazing groove. Justus West fan now!
Great lesson, thanks
Great lesson...👍
SO nice to hear someone explains things by frets and string names! instead of tenth fret on the second and third strings. Thx
Such a great guy...tanks for this awesome lesson!!
I got to say something about a Squire Contemporary in red from China. Dude this guitar the quality is amazing. I bout it new to or $288.00 usd. I wasn't expecting much. The quality of the fret work a basic setup and even the quality of major parts. The pickups aren't great but not bad either. I purchased an EVH mexico grey 5150 edition. It was nowhere near this. I had to change strings. They felt cheap. The action was way too high. This one. I've always wanted to experience the fender experience. I've played a few. I only found one that felt right in the 90s. I was into the fast loud floyd diving. I just wanted to try a fender. I couldn't find one low in price. Thinking I wasn't going to like it. That's why I ordered this. Their qc department is awesome. I love the 2 post tremolo. The saddles aren't bad either. I lubed the nut and pivot points. It stays in tune. I'm blown away. The volume knob is located perfect. It's a Squire. I always thought they were like entry guitars. I'm really satisfied. I even got on Amazon and found 2 aluminum scratch plates on sale. Now I can build them and switch them out humbuckers and 3 single coils. It even has a route for the middle pickup. I was afraid it was like a bath tub body. Nope it isn't. I really am shocked no joke. The quality of their workmanship. I would put it up with the fender custom shop. The work on finish to setup all in-between frets are really perfect. I paid close to $1,000.00 on the EVH. And with this no the pickups aren't great or the tuning machines. Or the pots aren't high quality. But I've got a great platform. The tremolo is amazing. This still had factory strings. It plays like butter. My action is low no buzzing out either. And I didn't do anything but a half total turn on the truss rod. And went down about a mm on the saddles. That's it. I really do want to get a Fender still. It's gonna be a while. But I'm really satisfied with this Squire.
Thanks for doing this Justus, I appreciate it :D
Thanks very much. You unlocked some Chet Atkins stuff for my playing! 🎉

Beautiful!
Justus seems like an awesome kindhearted person and a very knowledgeable musician, also the guitar is out of this world (the sound of that Strat plus the Cobra blue finish). The video was really informative, thanks!

Such a great lesson! Thanks so much!
Thank you for a great video lesson. By any chance do you have the tabs somewhere? Thanks again
It would help if you could give more of a close up of where you're putting your fingers. How do you know where all those places are to play for each key? Do you have them memorized? I like you btw you're really good and maybe you have a closeup video of how you do that picking? Thanks

Good video. Wish you put pictures of finger placements. I'm a beginner and I am learning. It's not easy, but it can be done.
What the hell? Lol. This dude is so good it blows my mind
Nice video! Does anyone know the intervall of the 4th shape he showed? So it goes 1, 2minor, 3minor. And whats the 4th chord? Which interval?
Can you make it look like you're trying? I don't even want to play now after how effortless you made that intro look lol.
Yeahhh
These are NOT double stops. This is called *parallel motion.* Power 5ths & 4ths as well as 3rds, 6ths and octaves can be played together. Examples of Double Stops are 1) Muff- John Tropea 2) Universal Lobe- Lenny White 3) Hocus pocus-Gary Howie
Awesome technique bro, and love your name. That’s my brothers name also a Bible name not commonly used these days, at least spelled as “Justus”. Church baby here. Lol
Will this work on a Jackson
I read Jesus West about 3 times.
I want to EAT that strat!
Dear Justus, thank you for the excellent lesson. I immediately found on this scale the melody of "Stasera mi butto", a big Italian hit of the Sixties sung by the American singer Rocky Roberts.

Fender, I realize that guitar markets are essentially saturated, and I'm likely not going to add to my stable of two strats, three teles and the Squier my dad started me on; I'm aware that you have to open new markets with ukuleles and whatnot, but this is incredible. Subscribe button = hit. Please configure the algorithm to show me more like this, and not so much of the "Artist" profiles where recipients of free guitars warble on lyrically or documentarily about their struggles-um, we all have the blues, it's pretty much how we are found each other- or videos where caricatures out of SJW central casting are celebrated for smacking their strings percussively, supposedly "developing" a technique that I decided early on was not how a guitar should be played, no matter how "cool" it sounded I guess I'm trying to say that this is incredible and inspires me to pick up one of those Fenders (or Squier), whereas the other stuff just reminds me that I made a huge mistake 25 years ago when I cut my hair, shaved, and decided I had to be somewhere not a minute later than 8am...

Sounds like you're taking an unnecessary shot at Tosin Abasi. You just sound old and tired, bro.
👍
Can someone explain what a double stop is?
There should be a manual included with a Strat on how to play.
I wish ! Some people stink of talent so badly.
A Great Jem of A Video And a Superb music teacher that makes it Easy Peezy to understand Kudos To Fender On Making this Great Video
