Justine Henin ● Best Points Part 2

Спорт

Tennis definitely misses someone like Justine Henin on court so I thought it would be nice to show a few of her best points. Throughout her career she defeated Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Kim Clijsters and many other fantastic tennis players.
Henin won seven Grand Slam singles titles: winning the French Open in 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007, the US Open in 2003 and 2007 and the Australian Open in 2004. At Wimbledon, she was the runner-up in 2001 and 2006. She also won a gold medal in the women's singles at the 2004 Olympic Games and won the year-ending WTA Tour Championships in 2006 and 2007. In total, she won 43 WTA singles titles.

With that being said I have always liked, respected, admired, studied, and praised Justine for what she has done. She was such an amazing and formidable competitor to watch. The person that my parents raised me to be just has to respect someone with the style, grace, fight, and athleticism of Justine, no matter who my favorite is 🤷🏾‍♂️💯✊🏾✊🏾..

She is 5'5 1/2. A few centimetres taller. Shorter than Hingis but when you looked at the two standing side by side, Henin has a ripped and bulkier physique and more athletic in shape. She was extremely fit during her younger years on tour, and that's where she probably has more raw power than hingis due to her stronger and heavier body muscle. Without training extensively, her muscles wont likely be able to generate such power with ease. Although it is still remarkable that someone of her height could produce the power almost at the same range with the men's and sometimes could produce higher groundstrokes speed by overpowering the larger/taller WTA athletes like Davenport, Pierce, Osaka, and the Williams Sisters. That alone is what makes Henin already a special tennis gift to the world, and then when we start to talk about her game style, technique, footwork speed and agility, tactical mastery- she is definitely up there right next to the all time greats of the game. Maybe around top 5 or 15. It's a shame that she had a lot of long hiatus due to some serious injury (from Early 2004 to 2005) (another period of slow recovery at the end of 2005 until just before the A0 2006)and yes who can forget the 2008 sudden retirement while she was still a No 1. Out of the blue, few months later slamless Safina and Jankovic took over her spot but they were never in control while holding the throne at the top like Henin did. It was the time a lot of other top players have since retiring, Williams sisters were slowly getting better but chose to play fewer tournaments to avoid injuries in the future. I wished we could see more matches when Serena Venus and Henin (maybe Clijsters or Sharapova) are dominating the tour simultaneously, just like Roger Nadal and Djokovic at the same era. It would have been so intriguing and nail biting

She doesn't deserve to be compared to Federer, her backhand technique was so different... she made her backhand her strongest weapon, meanwhile Federer backhand was his weakness... Her backhand efficiency reminds me a lot peak Wawrinka (even Thiem) with powerful fore and backhand, but she had indeed an incredible touch and reflex that could reminds players like Rios or Federer.

When Henin retired in 2008 at age of 26 she had seven grand slam titles and eleven finals overall + Olympic singles gold, Serena was 27 at that time with eight slams and ten finals but she had less big titles overall + no singles gold. She had a good backhand... but the follow through motion was very whippy.... it wasn't pretty.. it looked nothing like Federer's.. but it was decent shot. I think people hype it up so much because it was a one handed backhand.. I think only she, Mauresmo and Novotna were hitting one handers then...and frankly, she and Mauresmo's backhands looked pretty much the same. She was a great player tho, very feisty and aggressive... is it the best shot ever, no... I'd take Navratilova's volley or backhand slice anyday, or Graf's forehand...or Seles' backhand or return of serve... I do think that Henin retired way too early. She would have definitely won allot more, even ended up with maybe 15 slams. She could've been a top tier all time great

@@nordna How do you know she would have won more Slams? She came back in 2010 and managed to win a title in Stuttgart and that’s about it, before retiring once again. So what makes you think she would have gone on to win slams in her 30s and supposedly lower Serena’s slam count? Lol. Serena had to go through so much adversity in her career: two knee surgeries (in 2003 and 2006) that permanently hampered her movement, blood clots in her lungs in 2010 that took her out of the game for over a year and which nearly took her life in 2011 as she fell into a coma and doctors said she would never be able to play tennis again, the murder of her sister in 2003, clinical depression and personal struggle with gaining weight and losing motivation for tennis, constant racism by crowds, tennis establishments and fans, people accusing her of being a man, a transgender, using steroids and performance enhancing drugs, fixing matches with her sister, people calling her too fat or overweight and constantly bodyshaming her. And then her return from pregnancy at the age of 36 and the THIRD time she returned to the top after dropping out of the top 100. Imagine how more she could have achieved if she hadn’t missed SIXTEEN slams due to injuries and pregnancy. There has never been a tennis player who was more harshly criticized for simple existing than Serena. There are no excuses man. Serena is simply leagues above Justine in every single way tennis wise and athlete wise and is in a league of her own. She was, is and always will be the superior athlete and tennis player 23 >>>>>> 7
