Justin Jones' clashes with lawmakers expose bitter divisions on Capitol Hill

He may be the most polarizing person on Tennessee's Capitol Hill - people either love him or hate him.

    Isn't Jones currently facing an issue over whether or not he has enough signatures from voters in his district to have his name on the ballot in the next election?

    I would agree with Rep. Jones on many issues. However, he’s not doing himself nor his constituents any favors by calling all of his Republican colleagues in the legislature racists (even if there may be some truth to it). With his party making up an overwhelming minority in the Tennessee legislature, he would need a good deal of Republican votes to get any legislation passed. And, of course, those Republican lawmakers are likely not going to work with him in getting any legislation passed when he’s insulted them in the past.

    They can't train police officers, how can they train teachers?

  • @paulstevens7528

    @paulstevens7528

    Ай бұрын

    Police officer training is paid for with the police department budget. That budget is the main limiting factor on police training. Under this bill, the teacher who volunteers to be armed has to pay for everything - the gun, the training ammo, the training, the fees for the screening process and handling the applications - out of their own pocket. If the teacher doesn't want to pay for that, then they don't apply for the program. The bill's sponsor stated that he wasn't expecting more than around 3 percent of teachers to even apply for the program, with considerably less than that completing the training and passing the screening process.

    Did he get enough signatures from voters in his district to have his name on the ballot in the next election? There seems to be some questions about that, even though he had to turn in signatures from only 25 registered voters from his district.
