Episode 2 of the Project 13' Arc
Backgrounds and Character Art by Dave Hicks
The Watcher continues his 2000s DC show reviewing with Justice League, a show that made Batman and Superman cool to the public in one of their possible best adaptations to date.
Also, Watcher finally meets the mysterious Lady Rosette, and learns a thing or two about Khathulon.
Rosette voiced by Hazelshotgun ( / hazelshotgun )

Justice League was, in my opinion, the best cartoon ever made. A shame we don't this level of quality writing in today's cartoons.

There is going to be a new Justice League animated show coming. I don't know when it will be aired though. I think it will be sometime next year.

Oh cool
The reason I liked J.L as a child (and even now as an adult) was that it took its audience seriously. 9/11 happened a little over two months before and people were still reeling. What I thought J.L. did was address what people were thinking and feeling at the time. The things we had known had been literally ripped apart and we were in need of believing in the right thing. This was a show that was saying "Yes, the world can be a dark and scary place" "Yes, there are people out there who want to hurt/kill others" and "Yes, the right thing isn't always easy, but it's the still the right thing." It addressed those issues and consequences without beating us over the head.
"Hal Jordan's a really boring character in every adaptation I see him in." THANK YOU, I'm not alone. Maybe he's better in the comics, idk, but every film I've seen him in, he's boring as fuck.

DC made a better cinematic universe that started 20 years ago with BtAS, with a much smaller budget. Fancy that.

it's a real shame you see Superman as boring. it's a real damn shame that in today's pop culture society we look to characters that instill fear, brood, and be dark and edgy as means of role models or the focus of hero worship as if there's nothing more interesting. i know young people, kids in their early teens all the way to their early 20's are really guilty of it but all i can say, there's a Loooooooot of reasons that Superman will forever stand in the middle and be the lead. You don't *stay* one of the most well known and popular super heroes in the world for 75+ years for being boring. But hey, everyone's entitled to their own bias or unbias opinions. even if they are poor. I do agree that in a lot of ways the show while good really did do Superman quite a bit of injustice

The Brotherhood of Gaming I love Sups, especially the TAS version. He's a real hero! And I agree with all you've said...
I think they explain in the finale of Unlimited why Superman was always getting punked by weaker villians because he didn't want to use his full power because he might kill someone. Then when Darkseid comes and is super powerful Superman says Darkseid can take it and goes all out on him.

Lenard Williams I always think of Ichigo grabbing Aizen's face to take him somewhere else.
I have serious gripes about you complaining that Superman isnt as much of a male "power fantasy" as he should be. Its good hes shown not to be perfect, its good that we see that the events of his series finale have taken a toll on him. Yeah, that weakens the idea hes a power fantasy, but it makes him an actual character. You complain that he isnt the strongest force in the universe and cant beat everything by himself? Well why would he even form the justice league then? Whats stopping him from pulling an "Injustice" and just solving everything without trying while the other superheros watch from the sidelines? Yeah, that wouldnt make a good show. People may say they nuked his powers, I say they made the show watchable.

There’s a speech Superman gives in Justice League Unlimited where he admits that he intentionally holds back because if he fights at full power he could risk harming people or causing mass destruction. He likens it to living in a “world made out of cardboard”. So it’s not that Superman isn’t as strong as he should be, it’s that he’s only as strong as he needs to be.

I felt so bad for John when; Shiera flew off and he was like "I love you too" and started tearing up. Perhaps it was made even more impactful to me personally due to something similar happening tome (with less aliens of-course).
I don't know why people think that Hawkgirl sucks. I think that she's quite a badass. And her voice acting is superb. I especially like her nightmare in "Only a Dream" where it's revealed that she's claustrophobic and is confined in a coffin and buried alive. You can really feel her anguish, despair, and desperation. Most of the voice acting is really good. It feels human. Although, I did have a "what the fuck are you doing" moment when Hawkgirl double-crossed the League in "Starcrossed". Though I suppose I understand partly, due to the whole "loyalty to your race" dilemma. She's actually my favorite, along with Batman. But.... WHY GL and Hawkgirl? They were so awesome as a couple, but then one episode later...... I haven't seen Unlimited yet, but I do hope that she'll return. Her character is very well-written. Honestly, I have never seen so much intensity and depth in a cartoon. Like, this is "Avatar: TLA" levels of intensity. And yeah, I agree: this is certainly not a quote/unquote "kid's show" (though I resent that term). I even had trouble following some of the plots, having to rewind a few seconds to catch some dialogue or exposition. I would love to see some more action cartoons for more mature audiences. It would certainly make people take animation as an art form seriously.

Agreed. Animations happen to be some of the best work and writing produced on TV in general. Not to mention they broaden the horizon of the dc universe beyond your typical characters like batman and introduce kids teens and even adults to the comic book world

False. Superman is one of the worst heroes, PERIOD. Martian Manhunter is but his universe however is not, he is under appreciated and frankly doesn't get talked about must, not even in his own comics until 2001. Batman is one of the greatest. He has hands down the greatest villains, and character gallery in DC, one of the most relatable characters, and for you to say batman isn't shit but then he's IN YOUR TOP FIVE, proves how dumb you are. I don't even know if I would put Diana in the top five either becasue her character has been so watered down and ruined, her story arks aren't that interesting, Flash I agree with, he's number 2 for me and batman is number three. Oh look, only two spots higher than your ranking so calm the fuck down and stop calling me a bitch, what are you 5? Like, does your mom know you're on her tablet little boy?
Let me just say that you have a real gift at making reviews of things that many of us have deep nostalgia to. Your videos are the only ones that no matter what I'm doing I stop to watch. Its wonderful to see my childhood brought back to life like this, thank you
is aquaman's brother really named orm? When I watched the episode I was thinking "his name is Orm, are you serious?" in case anyone wonders: Orm is swedish for snake.
the vibration thing comes from the string theory
Dude, your reviews are awesome, can't wait for the next one
CHRONO CROSS MUSIC! AHHHH ITS SO AWESOME.
21:25 "scratch that 25 bombs" That look on batman's face is priceless though.
I would like to say something that is completely irrelevant. In "The Terror Beyond" that fight was entirely the Justice League's fault. They burst into Fate's house without invitation and demanded an explanation when there was no time to give one. The League had no right to try and force answers like that. They're not the only protectors of the world, and at this point in their time, are not the supreme authority.
Make a review of the tv show 'Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes'
I just started getting into your videos and I must say that you are probably the best reviewer on youtube.
love the reviews and the cut scenes are awsome :D
Yay! Finally multiple videos a month! Keep up the good work, and I can't wait for the Teen Titans review
Please keep writing original stories the project 13 arc already looks like it could be a tv series, KEEP MAKING IT!!!! Also the reviews are amazing love this channel
I hate the parts that aren't reviews

I love that you use the Man of Steel soundtrack xD
Awesome work as always Watcher! :D
Great review and series breakdown!
dag, that was a quick update. Good on you mate!
same here i couldnt watch it as a kid but i love it now
And also you forgot to mention the other noteworthy episode "Hereafter" where we see the league coming to grips with the implied death of Superman along with seeing a De-powered Superman still being capable of being as resourceful and powerful without his powers. It also showcased how important Superman is to the league seeing as how without him Vandal was able to kill every league member. The episode also showed an interesting view of Vandal Savage as a man who regrets his own actions
thanks for this man
I enjoy that youre using the injustice menu theme explaining the justice lords
and again! a perfect review!!
I love how you putting an emphasis on *Darkside*
Great review, and the general acting and emoting are getting better for the story segments
That Kingdom Hearts song halfway through. I would recognise that track anyday
The Justice Guild of America is a parody to the Justice Society of America (The 1st Justice League). Tom Turbine is Johnny Thunder, the Streak is the Flash (Jay Garrick), the Green Guardsman is the Green Lantern (Alan Scott), Catman is Wildcat (Ted Grant), and the lady who's name I somehow can't remember is the Black Canary (Dinah Lance), the Villains are also parodies: The Music Master=the Fiddler, Doctor Chill=Captain Cold, Sir Swami=Doctor Fate, and Sportsman=Sportsmaster.

I'm pretty sure catman is a parody to batman. I don't know much about the older... versions? (I'm not sure). First there's the obvious batman, catman. Then there's ray (mostly accompaning catman) who sounds like robin from the old times.
Batman isn't more brooding the whole point of his Arc was that Superman brought in the light side of him and took him out of a darkness that had been plaguing him since the new Batman adventures
I... honestly don't know how, but I never recognized the royal flush gang having the teen titans voice actors until you pointed it out
Great video! I love how you have to be like "Yah.. I know..." when describing some of the stranger plot elements, bc this video is meant for everyone, but anyone who reads comics aren't even fazed by "dimensional vibrations" or the JLA going back to WW2
tbf on the part about superman being thrown around alot, superman DID admit in the final episode of jlu that he has always restrained himself (until that final encounter with darkseid) for fear of killing someone, even his adversaries.
I got so excited when I saw this :) You're my favorite KZread :)
Content begins at 1:42.
I get a poker face every time the narrator talks about that squid
Best review ive heard of the show :)
I can't wait until you're famous and quit your job and make videos full-time. You're reviews are informative, entertaining, and well-organized. Keep it up Watcher!
Again, love your clean reviews, if you ever get the time I would Love to hear your review/thoughst for a Samurai Jack or Avatar: The Last Airbender. :D
My bad, my vid froze 2/3 of the way through. Also, thanks for going over the shows I loved as a kid!
Not sure if youtube let me post this but I think the reason superman was overpowered by Hades and wonder woman is because they have supernatural strength and superman is weak against magic. Can't explain the other ones though.
that would be awesome, I can already think of a few good ones for the list
Hawkgirl was badass, I like an ultra aggressive chick. That mace is how she introduces herself...so awesomely impulsive and enraged.
I was really young when the pilot came out, and let me just say, I had a lot of nightmares after that
cryokenetic, thanks I didn't know the proper reference till now. now then, can anyone tell me what the reference for electric abilities is?
you should do justice league unlimited as well since you did justice league and thank you for an awesome review, love this one.
Great use of the Chrono Trigger theme!
Great job, WatcherOfThe2000s! Thanks!!
with the vibrating world thing, that was almost flash of 2 worlds
This is better than the old school Super Friends. In fact, it's what Super Friends should have been.
This was great! I really enjoyed this review. I agree. I never liked John Jones' costume very much. It was a great show though, and I love the storytelling, which I value in shows and videogames. Keep up the amazing work! =D
you forgot to mention that the Martian Man Hunter replaces Cyborg since he was in Teen Titans
I love how the intro shows everybody doing something cool and hawk girl is just floating around
Dude. I remember as a kid seeing that scene where the guy cut off his hand and replaced it with a blade. I didn't know what series it was from because I was like 7 and I only saw that small part of the episode. I have searched all over the place trying to find what show that scene was from. Now I know, haha. Thanks.
That will be cool to see
I can't believe I never noticed the teen titan voices! And when you mentioned the league going undercover, I'm surprised you didn't specifically talk about their conversation about their secret identities. Also are you planning on doing Unlimited immediately after this episode or are you going to let the DC universe simmer for a bit before diving back in?
"Squid bastard" I'm still laughing my ass off
legends episode was based on the old justice socity golden era comics
One critique I would offer to your reviews it is that you sometimes rush through topics that are worth further discussion. That might be because of time constraints, but it is something worth mentioning.
Will you do a review on The Zeta Project? Like Static Shock it was a DCAU show that never really got much attention in fact it only lasted for half as long as Static did
That opening tho 😂
Someone please if you can tell me where i can find Justice League Unlimited .... thank you please

If you have a Netflix account, all the episodes are on there.
I watched this show like a mother back then!
I buy that Wonder Woman could take outSuperman if she had to, but not any regular Amazon. They also powered down Flash a lot in the first season, often he was taken out by a regular mook. Apparently, the writers actually thought he was one of, if not the, most powerful members so they had to pull him back.
JLA was the REASON I watched CN as a kid. I read a lot of DC comics as a kid, then saw Superman Animated. It needed an ending, which it finally got with Batman Begins.
Whoa, it make me remember some very tear jerking moment, love the season 1 and 2, Unlimited didn't watch much. It quite funny when you mention teen titans voice actor in it, the character of the voice actor make the character more like teen titans character.
whats the song at 20:00 minutes in, subtle yet very badass.
Actually, Mongul is more your typical Alien Warlord Conqueror whose a brawler that likes to wade into things head first, fists swinging, while Darkseid is more of a conniving strategist who prefers using his mind over his body (even though physical combat is a viable option as well) and likes to convert rather than outright destroy.
Justice League has one of the best rogues galleries, imo. Nice review! However, I disagree with you when you said Hawkgirl sucks, she's awesome in my opinion! It was horrible when she betrayed the JL, but other than that, she's great!
allso what about bruce/diana arc?
Oh, man, Tales of the Abyss music. Love that game.
Yay, you used music from The World That Never Was, one of my favorite levels in Kingdom Hearts 2 (which is also one if my favorite games).
The original Justice League (before they brought in Hawk Girl) was one of my favourite programmes growing up as a child. Paradise Lost was bar none, the most memorable episode for me (probably because I had the GBA game).

I remember that episode as a kid the timer in the corner scared me and my sister because she thought the TV was gonna blow up.
Great Man of Steel soundtrack in the background
13:13 Nice use of the Organization castle theme from KH2. It was so low and sutble I almost didn't catch it.
Playing the injustice theme @ 19:00 is a nice touch
I find the story you've created very interesting and I enjoy it, however it feels a little bit jarring to sandwich it between seasons. Personally, I think they would work best as segments at the start and end of episodes in combination with videos focusing purely on your exploits. Another really great review, keep it up!
Wow I didn't watch much of this show because I wasn't a big comic book fan but now that I am and after watching this review, I have to go back. Also the story with the Watcher is getting real epic now
Wow great review. I felt the same way about this show.
I liked this review. It was good. Coincidentally, you uploaded this video on the 10th anniversary of Teen Titans and you are reviewing Teen Titans next. Also, you talked about the episode where the Royal Flush gang were voiced by the Teen Titans voice actors and actresses.
I agree with this show not being for kids. When I was very young, I disliked this show and found it immensely boring, since I couldn't understand what was going on. It wasn't until I was about ten that I really started appreciating it.
I loved this show
Anyone else hear the man of steel music???

Superman weakness are Kyprnite a green rock that drains him due to a certain type of radiation , Magic for some reason and Red Son which can rob him of his powers
nice choice of "The World that Never Was" theme, very appropriate.
i wonder why nobody remembers how MM create ice cream using powers from the void?
Can't believe how many justice league episodes I missed, also I love when hp lovecraft esc monsters are fought in super hero comic books.
