WB is perhaps the most reactionary company on Earth. They have no idea of the gold mine that they're sitting on. The moment they get something going that's the slightest bit successful, they get cold feet. There is a difference between keeping things in budget, and meddling with the artistic vision of the film. So far, WB can't seem to distinguish between the two.

@Batfan Talon Oh, yeah. Don't get me wrong, Batfan. I love DC just as much as the next guy. Same goes for Marvel, Dark Horse, Image, IDW, Valiant, Dynamite, and Crossgen Comics. It's just that WB has more iconic characters than arguably anyone else. And all they do is just dip their toe in the water, when they need to be going in feet first, at least. They need to take a chance, and get people who know the material, and want to work on said material.

They really should just let directors have control of the character or set of movies they want to direct. There should be more standalone movies from dc cause like you said, they are sitting on a goldmine. They can do anything, and they have the characters. Forget being marvel.

Hearing Del Toro talk about the JL Dark with his childhood and this lineup is making me wish this happened so bad.

Guillermo del Toro is probably one of the directors I feel the most bad for. Having tens of Unmade projects (especially ones that could've launched him into pop-culture superstardom with The Hobbit) must take a toll on you. I would probably die just to see del Toro's Frankenstein & Hobbit Dualogy's.

I’m one of those who is very happy Del Toro did not get to do the Hobbit. Not the right guy for it by a mile

I really hope james gunn in the future gives del torro a chance to make a justice league dark film again, or even some of the other members like swamp thing, Deadman, etrigan, etc.

This man has created some of the best modern horror and fantasy films; it would be incredible to see his magic brought to the DC universe. They need this level of film-making to really do justice to the materiel--I can only imagine him doing Swamp Thing (the Moore version, of course) ----or Sandman.

I’d love to see a live action Justice League Dark movie happen someday Let’s just hope the tv series will be good

10 seconds into the video and I already clicked "like" just because you pronounced Guillermo del Toro's name correctly. Good job, sir.

Between Swamp Thing and the Constantine connections, Shadowpact, Vertigo era stories, and then what now is Justice League Dark, there's a big history of what to use for these characters. One day I hope this project will be realized in full. It's such a shame Del Toro's enthusiasm is halted on so many of his IP centric ventures.

Hearing Guillermo Del Toro talk about this project with so much enthusiasm makes me sad that this filme never got made, his Justice League Dark movie would have been fantastic! The whole script was clearly based on Swamp Thing #50 and that is incredible, the only thing I find weird is that Spectre wasn't in it. Colin Farrell as John Constantine, Ewan McGregor as Jason Blood/Etrigan, Monica Bellucci as Madame Xanadu and Ron Perlman as Swamp Thing are pretty awesome castings, other perfect castings would be Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Zatanna and Woody Harrelson as Deadman.

Underrated, underrated KZread channel. Spread the word!

John Stewart was going to join the JL in Zack's JL2. And Zack never butcherd superheroes. He just showed how they will act in the modern day world where mercy and being naive doesn't work.

It’s a shame they already use a lot of that stuff from those projects for other thing’s like the supermax thing was season 5 of Arrow, it appears they’re taking elements of year one for the new Batman movie, and I’m starting to think they took Del Torro’s ideas for JLD and used them poorly in Constantine and Swamp Thing, not to mention the recent announcement of the Zatanna show for HBO Max.

Doug Liman sounds like one of those kids sits in the corner at a party telling everybody how great he is

Can you guys do a video on George Lucas' intended sequel trilogy? I don't know how much information is available about it but he had a whole sequel planned out about what he called "the wills", the being essentially responsible for the force and the greater war that they were facing. It sounded like an awesome trilogy and I think a Supervoid Cinema video is the perfect place to explore that more!

Makes you feel sad listening to the first 5 minutes of the interview. He seemed so sure and praised WB for finally finding their flow and tone. The fact DC/WB is still a mess makes me glad he didn't have to go through that mess. great video you have a like and subscriber.

I’m not a real big Del Toro fan. I think he’s overrated and very situational but I do love a lot of movies he’s done but I think that’s because he fits the material. As a big DC, swamp thing, Constantine fan I was really looking forward to this. There’s so many awesome characters that you can pull out of Batman and superman’s shadow for that movie. There’s a couple pretty great animated films that give you a teaser for what this could’ve been. I hope it’s still in development hell and maybe it’ll get done some day. By the way, Matt Ryan needs to play Constantine for the foreseeable future. Sorry Matt, you’re just too good and perfect for the role

This video was much more than what I expected. It covered a lot. Great research on the characters, writers, directors, and more.

Man, I would love to have seen something like this! I also wanted to see Del Toro's take on Constantine as Keanu Reeves announced over a year ago that he would like to reprise the role and Del Toro was in talks to direct, but nothing has moved forward.

Why has no one mentioned Blue Devil as a member of the JLD? He can fit right in. I think he's been ignored for a long time.

@@mikehall7189 Hollywood won’t do him right. He is too edgy for most audiences at least that’s what Hollywood thinks. Look at iron man his movie version is super pg compared to the comics. The first Iron man was very close but after that they made him child friendly.

Honestly kind of a tragedy that WB isn't tapping into the magic/horror/vertigo side of DC, when (imo) it's a lot stronger than that side of Marvel. But the way WB leadership is, they'll just keep trying to compete with Marvel on mainstream superhero and cosmic movies X P

I don't even bother with DC movie announcements anymore unless it's animated or video games. They always cancel cool projects, Hell they recently cancelled New Gods. Even Sony is more competent than them at this point.

It would have been interesting seeing the Justice League Dark movie. Wish the DCEU did good but it would be nice seeing the Flash movie originally releasing in 2018, the Green Lantern and Cyborg movie for last year, Ben Affleck's Batman movie, the Man of Steel sequel, and the Justice League sequel.

And they're both being made by JJ Abrams. Brilliant decision there. Oh, and let's not forget that they have to emphasize the fact that this verison of Constantine will be a "younger, non-white" version of the character. Really hate white people huh WB? Abrams is the prime example of a filmmaker who focuses more on being "diverse" then actually being respectful to the source material.

@@Reprodestruxion so what Del Toro's Mexican? It doesn't matter. Del Toro knows how to deliver something comic-accruate. He loves both comic books and manga and knows how to be faithful to them. Plus, it was revealed that Del Toro actually wanted to cast Matt Ryan, a white actor, for the part because he loved his performance in the show, the race didn't matter. Also, love how you're insulting me for not liking this shitty casting they're doing with Constantine, even though it's acrually very racist. When you cast a non-white actor in a previously white role, or a woman in a role that used to belong to a man, you spread the message that they can't hold a movie or show on their own and that they need to piggy-back off a white man character in order to succeed. It's a very condescending and pitying form of racism, which is what I notice that people in Hollywood do "you can't succeed on your own because the world is always after you, so we gotta hold your hand". I've seen non-white people make this exact same criticism about racebending. People want to see characters like Icon and Static Shock have time to shine, as they're actually characters that were created TO BE NON-WHITE. Seeing them would actually be empowering . But just making token versions of previously existing characters? That's just lazy and just racist as all fuck. But then again, of course you'd support it, cause you're the same kind of condescending racist that calls anyone "far-right" who sees through the bullshit. Del Toro wouldn't be doing this kind of shit. I don't support Republicans or Democrats, so don't act like you know me, you bigot.

Great video. Although i have all the confidence Del Toro could have made a cool film this script seems a bit of a dud, it would make a good animated feature but it's super generic, and i'm sure you've tried your best to bring it to life.

I have been posting about this animated movie and Constantine City of demons on several comic book channels for a while. Horror and magic is one of the best things DC has going for it. I dont understand why they dont capitalize on it. Been reading and collecting comics since the early 70's Yes I'm that old. I'm really digging Doom Patrol. It feels more DC than most of the movies.
