Fun fact: For those who didn't already know, Amy's debut game, Sonic CD, released in 1993, whilst Knuckles debuted in 1994. Amy debuted FIRST, so it's only fair that she get introduced! I think the Knuckles series would've been a REALLY great place to introduce her, but eh, what's happened has happened.

Amy embodied the same love and empathy as Maria- that's why she was the only one who could reach Shadow. It wasn't just "oh right, maybe humans aren't evil" it was hearing Maria's own words coming from someone else, knowing her wish wasn't dead. If anyone else is given that role the scene loses all meaning.

If Sonic 2 can have Tails and Knuckles, Then I don’t see what’s wrong with including Shadow and Amy in the third movie

(apologies for this being long) Personally, I got it. He did get some good character development. He learned how to relax & enjoy more types of entertainment. Someone who has spent their whole life fighting with ONE goal take a long time to figure out how to settle down or even realize they SHOULD settle down. Wade is also now wiser and more experienced, (him & Knuckles are literally Sokka & his swordsman teacher,) G.U.N was more properly integrated, we have characters to connect to G.U.N in a way that kinda *forshadows* Rouge appearing at some point with how that lady knows so much about Knuckles & other aliens. Speaking of the #1 Knucks himself (seriously, he's my favorite, and here I am defending his "lack" of screen time), most if not all times Knuckles wasn't focused as much as Wade, he wasn't really doing anything. He was either just chilling, or was just doing something that wasn't as important at the moment as what was going on with Wade. I agree in that I wish we did get to see more Knucks, and it does feel like some stuff could've been done better, but I also see now that they did the best they could with all that was going on. Honestly, I hope we get to see more of Wade's mom; she was awesome, she's badass, and I think she did the most in helping Knuckles get in much character development, and I. LOVE IT. Knuckles was losing a sense of purpose, and I love how helping Wade and his fam helped himself as a person in return. He has a new sense of purpose now, and honestly, I think bringing Amy in would've REALLY taken that away. Knuckles & Wade got enough spotlight in there already, we DO NOT need any new MAJOR CHARACTERS in an f-ing MINI SERIES! 😂 Then you'd have a HUGE reason to complain about with screentime! "Omg Amy stole the show, it was supposed to be Knuckles! Wade was already enough! 😭😫" Oh and let's not forget the ton of Easter eggs, all we learned about knucks' past, then there's more about G.U.N's spotlight importance I didn't mention, and other things that actually make more than 80% of the series worth being the way it is. And with the problem of "too many humans"... I think they're getting better at making humans feel better in the universe. The G.U.N agent dude is very interesting. Like bro's a killer with pent up bloodlust. Then also of course Mrs. Whipple, Tom, Robotnic & Stone, the kids, and the whole epic wedding crash take-back think. And now just the way any of the Sonic trio react to anyone is enough for me for the most part. 😂 And c'mon. These aliens are literally coming to OUR planet which is FULL of humans! WE'RE EVERYWHERE! How can humans NOT be involved? Thinking about if they decided to do the film stories taking place in space and only visiting Earth (which is the only way to get a lot less humans), I personally think that would have made it much worse of a movie. Not nearly as entertaining. It's just the newer games & old shows all over again or a Star Wars + Star Trek parody as live action. Then there'd be so much CGI, it may as well be completely animated.

Anyone who says we can only have one new character per movie is completely forgetting the fact tails and knuckles were established in the same film And even if you make an argument, that tales appeared in the post credit scene of the first film, then that means both sonic and tails debut in the same film, which still proves the argument that we can only have one animal character per movie. As the series goes on, I understand that they will need to slow down. The amount of characters brought in, but I’d say two characters per film, isn’t asking for too much as long as there is a decent plot to justify it

I'm happy you talked about her being a damsel in destress. From how I saw it, she was a damsel in distress in the first game she was introduced, and when she was saved by sonic she was inspired to be a hero like him. Her love for sonic is what started her development. Sonic isn't her only personality trait but he is a very important part.

SA1-Heroes, Sonic is Amy's only character trait. Unfunny

She’s a long shot for sure, but someday, I would love to see Cream the Rabbit make an appearance in a Sonic movie. It’s also a great potential for the more “adult” Sonic characters-Vanilla and Vector in particular-to hang out with the human adults. Vector is a detective after all. Maybe he can help with Chris’s police work?

Amy deserves respect like other female heroes. As a true Amy fan, I love Amy!

I actually agree with this take 100%. Both Amy AND Rouge are key characters in the franchise, at least one of them should be introduced in the movie universe so they can play some kind of role in shadow’s story, otherwise the studio isn’t really using the IP to its fullest. Also the people that say that Amy shouldn’t be in the movie come from Twitter. Pup you should know by now that you won’t ever find smart opinions on Twitter.

Movie Amy needs to make an appearance!

I mean if people think Amy doesn’t matter and doesn’t need to be in these movies than they don’t know a thing about her since she’s one of the most important Sonic characters, and with the 3rd movie adapting SA2 then it’d be really odd for her to not show up when she’s an essential part of Shadow’s arc, she’s literally the person that got Shadow to remember his true promise to Maria and get him back to the good side, if it wasn’t for Amy, the heroes might’ve had less of a chance at stopping the Ark and even if they still did, Shadow would still be against them instead of with them, saying Amy doesn’t matter and doesn’t need to be in these movies is just kinda dumb (which goes for Rouge too)

Amy is literally why Shadow gave up destroying earth in the first place, why would she not appear in the third movie?

​@willbrgamer5137 That's reaching at best. I'm gonna have to agree with the other guy. Getting through to Shadow was the only useful thing Amy did in SA2 as far as the story is concerned. Up until that point, she's just a tag-along. If she is included in the third film, they're gonna have to give her more to do to justify her existence in the movie. She can't just exist solely for that one scene. Otherwise, yeah. They could easily give that role to another character.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I'd like to see Amy's fangirl and sassy side, it always seemed kind of fun and memorable, I wouldn't even mind if Amy stopped being a fangirl afterwards, but I really miss that very memorable Amy trait, as lately that side of Amy has been lost a lot.

It could work and may be fun if done respectful to Amy's character. I wouldn't mind Amy to be Sonic's fangirl at first too, say, after he saves her. As for sassy side, you probably mistake game Amy from Boom and Fleetway Amy. Sure, fortunately game Amy is sassy now thanks to Frontiers and Tweeter Takeovers, but she wasn't like that in the games until 2022

On the idea of “Amy taking too much screen time from Shadow”, if we talk about purely just the cutscenes in Sonic Adventure 2, Shadow probably honestly had the lowest amount of screentime of the main cast, I think even in the original game Amy had more screen time purely by hanging out with Sonic and the others, but Shadow was more of a lone wolf character so even in the dark story he honestly wasn’t on screen as much as the others, but that didn’t make what he got any less notable

The unfortunate thing is Sally's like garbage to Sega and they want her to be completely forgotten, so making Amy girlboss and leader of the resistance is normal because it's new to Sega of Japan. But I kinda agree, aside from obsession with Sonic we need all the previous traits should stay with her like short temper. I just hope Amy stays consistently well-written character and she wouldn't be treated just as gag like in 2000's games and Sonic X

I see Amy being introduced as this lonely hedgehog like you said. I believe hedgehogs are a really rare species in this universe so she'd be sort of by herself all these years. The only thing she has is the prophecy of a super powerful hedgehog that so happens to be Sonic(Him having "Nah too boring of a job for me" kinda attitude). She has searched all over the universe just like Tails to meet her hero so she's REALLY passionate for him. She has never been shown love to, yet she demonstrates care for everyone in her path, which will definetly confuse Shadow if their hog to hog talk ever happens. But here's the catch: she is really worried about the future, contrasting with Shadow having to let go his dark past and Sonic's ways of living in the moment (maybe he'll also have to leave Earth or the chaos control thing you said could happen to also go into the "letting go" theme). I also think she's gonna be really excited to understand Planet Earth and be amazed by everything she sees. She might jump into situations without thinking a lot like Sonic, but more so out of curiosity. Also, on the Rouge part of things, I can definetly see them doing some sort of backstory for her. Maybe she had to fought for her life everyday so she became a treasure hunter. She knows how much the Chaos and Master emeralds are worth so she knew she couldnt lose this chance, afterall "All jewels in the world are" hers "to keep!!". I just think this movie will have an overall theme of loss, death, letting go and not be too worried about what's going to happen in the future, just live in the moment As Sonic would say: "Don't turn back, always run forward, and never lose your step!!"

Amy has also been very relevant in Sonic media lately too, she’s been in Frontiers, Origins, Superstars, and Dream Team, and she was playable in all those. In Sonic Prime, all her variants had decent roles to play. Murder of Sonic takes place on her birthday. So, she has been getting a lot of time to shine in other media, so I think she should be in movie 3, too. Also, the reason most of us are going to see these movies are for the cartoon talking animals.

I do hope Amy and Rouge shows up in Sonic 3, but it feels unlikely. Especially learning that Jeff Fowler isn't a fan of Rouge and he wrote for the Sonic movies so it's concerning. I love Amy. She's one of my favorites (honestly I didn't mind the change in Sonic X with Chris taken Amy's place, would be great if it was a combined effort with Chris & Amy, as another Human character is like Maria exists in present and destroyed the world would destroy another human like Maria and Amy stating the same words and pointed it towards Chris would've be a nice detail to that scene) and I hope she gets the respect she deserves. I do dislike how they're handling Amy nowadays. I love how unapologetic Amy is with showing her love for Sonic, though at times SEGA went overboard with how she acted, which is where the fans pointing it out and they course corrected too hard. Amy is really an incredible character when you really take a moment to understand her character. EDIT: I would love to see more Human OCs in Sonic stories. Heck, I WISHED there was a Human Avatar with no abilities for a fun change in Sonic Forces. But alas... no dice. I mean both Sonic animals and Humans co-exist in the same world after (which is confirmed in Tails Tube).

I definitely agree that A. Amy would be great for more female representation to reach the younger demographic, but Amy's character is more than just being a gaga fan girl. Her "all loving spirit" shows her as the literal heart of the franchise. Amy's character helps give Sonic compassion. Each of the characters bring out something like that; Tails: Responsibility Knuckles: Strength Shadow: Maturity. Amy shows to Sonic that to truly help people, it's just to slow down and be emotional support. Especially since movie Sonic is more emotive than game Sonic, because there are little writing restrictions.

If shes not in it, I will be rather heartbroken.

And I do say that some of the people that are saying we don’t need Amy are the people that ship Sonadow (which I don’t really have an opinion about.) A lot of those fans don’t like Amy.

Anyone claiming the Sonic cast are too "alienating" for audiences are clueless or insane. Cute, superpowered animal friends is the most textbook definition of 'crowd pleaser' imaginable. Becase Disney, Dreamworks, Illumination, Pixar...charming animation is literally their business model, why are we pretending this is different JUST for Paramount?

I'm pretty confident we'll get at least one animal girl introduced in Sonic movie 3. If they really wanted to surprise us, it might be Cream. But I doubt that since she's paired with Blaze. I believe it'll be Amy and/or Rouge. Seeing a Chao or two would be cool too.

Amy would make sense in this movie, we've had Tails as the good guy character with knuckles as the bad guy character. Make Amy the good intro. While we're at it, introduce Rouge as a neutral character initially appearing to be siding with Robotnik and Shadow. But then being a hired gun for G.U.N. Maybe have Amy looking for Tails and knows him, but stumbles on the case and develops a crush on Sonic.

You're so right about the comparison to other HUGE animated properties. No matter what people say, things like the Mario Movie or certain Disney/Pixar/Dreamworks films are MASSIVELY successful. So, here's how I'd do it: - She comes to Earth guided by her cards. She’s a dreamer inn search of adventure - Her power is to summon and empower her hammer - She gets in trouble because she knows nothing about Earth, Sonic saves her and she falls in love. Sonic gets nervous and runs away, thought. - Have your Sonic vs Shadow fight, Shadow mops the floor with Sonic, Tails and Knuckles. - Amy eventually meets and befriends Shadow, while Sonic teams up with Robotnik. - At the end of act 2, Robotnik betrays Sonic and used the combined quills of Sonic, Shadow and Knuckles to power Metal Sonic. - Metal Sonic beats Sonic and Shadow because they can’t work together. When they manage to escape him, he kidnaps Amy - 3rd act is to rescue Amy, while Robotnik is preparing something big for the world - Final fight is a hedgehog fest: Sonic, Shadow and Amy vs Metal Sonic, while Knuckles and Tails try to stop Robotnik’s greater plan - Amy makes Sonic and Shadow to work together. Robotnik is stopped but too late. - Inspired by Amy, Shadow sacrifices himself to save the world. - Post credits reveal Shadow survived. At least those are my hopes.

I never understood the Amy hate. Especially outside the Sonic Fandom. With the resurgence of Amy in the cast in Frontiers and Superstars, I wouldn't be surprised if Sega would do something with her. I wish we were given some more details about Sonic 3 though.

I wish more details for Sonic 3 too. Even if they're making such surprises, it's really not when you grab Amy or/and Rouge in it.

They do not need to play it safe, that's what Sega and Sonic Team did to the games between 2010-2017. We needed a game like Sonic Frontiers, so surely they can do that with Sonic Movie 3. Have Amy there, and hopefully Rouge.

But if this is true then it would certainly take away from Rouges role or her role entirely in the movie. I really dont get the argument that its "not kid friendly". Im unsure if they'll include Rouge but I would guess they're definitely adding Amy.

Amy and Rouge both need to be in that film - I find it horrifying how female characters are being mistreated due to stereotypical gender beliefs and they both play core roles in SA2B for heck’s name. Amy has developed not only as a character but a female role model throughout her time being in the sonic brand and while rouge debuted in SA2B, that does not make either of them any less valuable. I think it would be criminal if the producers left either one of them out. Personally, I adore BOTH female characters and when I watched the sonic films, it was for sonic, tails, knuckles, Eggman and not for the other human characters. I am sure that there are many other people with similar tastes on who they want to watch but it would be wrong for Amy’s and Rouges roles to not be added.

I see your points and agree that Amy plays an important role in Shadow's story but I would also argue that Sonic Adventure 2 had the luxury of being 9 hours long in comparison to the movie likely being 2 hours at most and we also have to consider potential stories that would be emphasized outside of Shadow like developing Sonic's heroism and empathy, Tails developing his independence, Robotnik learning about his Grandfather, the organization that controlled Project Shadow, and possible flashbacks to Maria and Shadow being on the arc; I would love to see Amy and Rouge in the movie but I feel like the movie already has a lot of arcs to juggle already and adding in Amy can result in a more muddled story that falls short of expectations. I would disagree that Amy's direction is extreme in the new games because in Frontiers Amy is vulnerable, caring while also willing to stand up for what she believes in and loving Sonic but the difference between her character now and her depictions from Heroes to Generations is that modern Amy is allowed to have interests outside of Sonic, able to hold fun conversation with him that showcases a meaningful dynamic, and emphasizing her own values in comparison to her having a rather one dimensional dynamic that didn't progress the story or the characters while leaving her more empathetic qualities behind in SA 1 and SA 2; the IDW comics are also a good example of how here character has progressed in the Modern Era of Sonic.

I personally the idea that Sonic could have met Amy when they were kids, like when he went to get the flower for Longclaw. How she gets to Earth while keeping true to the games? Not sure, but I trust them to come up with something. People are so hyped for Shadow, they forget this is a SONIC movie. With how much focus Knuckles got, the second movie still followed Sonic, and also Robotnik. And like you said, there’s not a lot of female representation in these movies. That’s something that definitely needs to be expanded on.

Alright, you've persuaded me on Amy and Rouges' inclusion in Sonic movie 3. My initial concerns were that it would be difficult to manage that many new characters in a story with an increasing scope. The concern was that it would turn out to be a Spiderman 3 kind of situation. However, if the writing is good enough, it would be a disservice to not have at least one of these characters.

I think they should introduce Amy in this movie then introduce Rouge in a Shadow spinoff series as an agent GUN sent to track him down after the events of the 3rd movie

22:28: I mean, I think there's already been, EXTREMELY SUBTLE, set-up done: Amy Rose, in these movies, came to Earth, became a pre-teen shadow real estate maven, giving her name to a human as cover for...30%, and Maddie stayed at one of her Zillow properties. Sonic 3 is set...4-5 years after her arrival. Sonic speeds past that property early in Sonic 3, seeing a pink hedgehog in a window for a second, and then...the GUN truck happens, for Action Scene #1. After the action scene, Sonic gets his "one phone call", to Tails, telling him about Amy. Tails has made a big techno hammer, which he puts in the plane he's made. Picks up Amy, flies to Prison Island, Amy sees the hammer and grabs it before leaping out of the plane and then: Action Scene #2: Amy smashing down walls and robots to save a hero. Amy can even laugh at Tails, "You think I don't know my way around a hammer!? I. WORK. IN. REAL. ESTATE! Now, let's get to the reno!"

Tbh outside of Sonic X it never says that Sonic left earth and we never see citizens outside of Unleashed as far as I can remember so the thing of bringing the animal characters to earth works perfectly. In considering gun is no longer after Sonic anyway It would make sense that human and animal characters live together in peace. (Outside of Robotnik)

You make good points Pup. The main two concerns I see potentially preventing Amy from appearing is 1) the cost of having *five* vfx heavy characters that are all individually highly expensive 2) the length of sonic adventure 2’s story is being cut down to probably about 90 minutes, 2 hours at most. That said, Sonic, Tails and Knuckles are all quite cemented, none of them really *need* much more character work. Ultimately I think I agree that Amy could be included just fine in Sonic 3, and that not doing so would be a mistake. Great points about lack of female characters too, btw.

Amy is my favourite character in the Sonic franchise. I think part of the problem is that the times you get to play 'as' Amy or the times she plays a key role in the games are the exception to the rule. Most of the time Amy is just 'there' and alot of the time she is defined by her Sonic obsession. In these instances Sonic is often put off by Amy's advances and runs from her. This makes Amy come across as annoying to alot of people because if you don't find her gag funny, chances are you won't find her enjoyable to watch. But I've always enjoyed Amy's optimistic, compassionate and courageous personality. She may not often get a moment to shine but hopefully now Sega are addressing the ways her character has been mishandled in the past. I do think the Sonic crush 'should' be there to a degree because it's Amy's most consistent and self-defining personality trait - if you remove it she stops being Amy. But it shouldn't be all there is to her at the same time. Sega needs to find that balance where Amy still feels like she's Amy, but that she isn't overbearing or irrelevent to the games' plot. Amy should 'definitely' be in Sonic 3, she technically predates Knuckles if we go by when the 16-Bit games were developed, and she's too integral a character to leave out.

In an age where modern audiences are finally starting to realize that animated films are more than just "kids movies"; and coming off of the success of films like SpiderVerse & Mario, it makes me wonder why they didn't just decide to go with an animated film from the get-go? I mean they already cast pretty big names to *voice* characters. I've enjoyed the two films we've gotten, but I was definitely off put when that first trailer dropped and I realized we were doing the "human & animated character buddy film" trope, it made me a little less excited as a fairly casual fan of Sonic who grew up with the first two games.

We shouldn't care after all they are people from Twitter Amy will be in the films after all she is one of the main ones, I'm not going to lie that I also want to see Rouge but I need both of them to appear after all they are important and essential to this franchise

If you're efficient at Storytelling you can introduce the character in 5 minutes... look back at 80's movies, you didn't have an origin for every single character, they just were there, knew each other and GOT ON WITH THE FUCKING STORY. Seriously... I don't get this obsession with Origins these days... you don't need it, you really don't. Hey this is Amy, give her a scene early on, then have her be the one to Convince Shadow... It's 100% doable, would hope they don't squander it... But after Knuckles I'm like... Ehhhhh
