    The black ca glue I found says it has a rubbery finish. Two questions; 1. By using the accelerator, does that make it hard like what I would call "normal" ca glue? And second, how do you clean those thin applicator tips or do you just buy a bunch of them?

  • @MoonpieCreations

    @MoonpieCreations

    4 жыл бұрын

    I use Starbond CA glue, it finishes hard. All the Accelerator does is cause the CA glue to cure faster. If you have a CA glue that hardens to a rubbery finish I would look at changing. I toss those small applicators most times. Although you can turn the bottle up right and push air through them to try and get all the CA glue out. Haven't had much success doing this though. You get 5 or 6 with a new bottle of Starbond. Ken

    David Graylord the tabletop resin by total boat works well for coating mugs or anything else. I would use something like on shine juice or just Yorkshire grit/Acks over it once done. But after the resin cures there should be no issues with absorption. Hope this helps. Ken

  • @MoonpieCreations

    I get people mad when I say this, but any finish is food safe once it cures. The only issue that could be an issue with OB Shine Juice would be the additives in the Boiled Linseed Oil. There are chemicals in it to help it cure faster. Shellac is used in many foods. Sooooooooo I would say yes it is food safe. This is my opinion and I know some people will disagree. Clear as mud? • @MoonpieCreations

    @MoonpieCreations

    3 жыл бұрын

    Sometime I get streaks. I usually put on multiple coats. The streaks can be caused by many issues. Such as to much pressure or bad shellac. Or there might still be Acks paste (which is a wax) on the piece. Sometimes when my OB doesn't have enough denatured Alcohol in it it will streak too.

    I used this same technique but find that after a day or so, the resin portion of the piece looked awful, and had an oily film on it. The batch of shine juice is about a month old, made with denatured alcohol, blo, and shellac (with the wax). I’ve no idea what went wrong. Has this ever happened to you?

  • @MoonpieCreations

    @MoonpieCreations

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey Joseph, it has happened to me. I found that if I let the OB shine Juice sit after mixing to long it doesn’t work well. I make around 4 oz at a time and remake if the bottle sits more than a week. I had a few batches that would shine up and looked horrible. I found out shellac goes bad so I bought a new cam and my problem was gone. Oh also try and clean the project with denatured alcohol after the acks or what ever you use . It helps slot.

  • @MoonpieCreations

    Fair enough, but I can assure you it has a glass finish. Maybe it was the type of wood and resin combo, you have a hard time seeing it. I like Eric's channel a bunch, but every turner/woodworker has their own technique that works for them. This is just one that works well for me with Hybrid works. My finishing for wood projects is completely different. Thanks for watching and commenting. Ken
