Just Off the Highway | Episode 39 | Magaliesberg Underwater

Ойын-сауық

At least 2 billion years old, the Magaliesberg is truly ancient. It’s almost half the age of the planet itself and the whole area was once submerged under vast inland sea. The evidence is very easy to spot when hiking through the kloof.

The YT algorithm brought this on my path. I really enjoyed watching the video as I live at the foot of the Magalies mountain and enjoys looking at the mountain daily, from my bedroom window, from my stoep and on my way to and from the office. A truly enjoyable sight. Now I know a bit more about the Magalies.

Al, although there were no humans around at the time of the formation of this range, it has been postulated that Keith Richards wandered these valleys and koppies! Thanks for another excellent episode. I look forward to more in 2024.

Love your show. Can you do one on the Foster Gang. My great grandfather, Charles Mynott, BSAP, was shot and killed by them whilst trying to apprehend them. Would love to see your take on this.

Another great one Al. I live in Pretoria about 100m from where Voortrekkers goes north over the Magalies. A geologist friend of mine says that you can find ancient crustacian fossils at the top where the pass was built. Really amazing.

The one scene shown in this video is close to my favorite place on this earth. There is a small, but deep pool, halfway down a waterfall, which is best entered by sliding down a steep, short slide, with a meter drop. If heaven does not have the same, I am not going.

Hi Al, I agree that Magaliesberg range is truly awesome, but being a creationist, I do not agree on the age. According to Genesis, the earth is 6000 years old.

  • @gavinspowart

Actually, Genesis does NOT state that the earth is 6000 years old. That figure was arrived at by archbishop and Trinity College Dublin "professor" James Ussher (1581-1656), who ruled that the Earth was formed in the year 4004 BCE, on the evening of October 23. He apparently used the "begats" to "calculate"
