Just Nostalgia? Adidas Predator Elite FT & Laced FG Review 24

Спорт

When there's a new boot on the scene and everyone is going crazy for it, especially when it has some serious elements of nostalgia, my immediate thoughts are, can't be that good. We are all too easily swept along by nostalgia from a few stripes and a tongue these days. Surely that's exactly what has happened here and the boots are average at best.
Note: I didn't mention their suitability for AG pitches in the review. Overall I found these to be decent for an AG pitch and didn't really have any issues with the FG plate.
Well, no, or at least I don't think so. These are actually really good, surprisingly good. Now I'm not sure if I'm getting swept along by the nostaligia train because I really do love a tongue. However, we didn't even focus on the Predator Elite FT (Foldover Tongue) here, we looked at the Predator Elite Laced mainly. I'm still getting swept along. I still think that this is a great boot!!!
Well done adidas, it's taken a while but the new Predator has to be described as something special. Now, I will come back to it in a couple of months when the shiny has worn off and see if I still love the new Predator as much as I do now. But FOR now. It's a win.
Also, what on earth is with the naming, Pick a lane adidas. We've had the Predstrike, the Predator 24, the Predator 30, Predator Teaser and I'm sure some I've forgotten! Apparently, it's officially the Elite FT, Elite and Elite LL for the top end models now. Which I will say, I don't love, I preferred the old naming system and it being specific to adidas.

    I have watched almost every review I can on these. Being completely honest, I feel this is the best review vid I’ve seen on the preds. The points you touch on and the way you describe the boot is very original and I feel that’s tough to do more than ever now. Fantastic review so happy to have you back man!

    Thanks man, appreciate you watching and your kind words. It does become a little difficult to be original with a boot that everyone has reviewed so I just went a little bit more with feeling on this one.

    @@BootWizard Yes, you definitely helped! The external heel counter and flexible heel material reminds me of the Copa 17.1. As someone with bony heels (haglund), it's really hard to find boots that won't kill me after a game... I'm looking into modding the copa mundial by removing some external stitching and access the plastic heel cup to cut of the central part of it.

    Thanks for the thorough review. Pleeeease, have you tried the laceless version? I always prefer a one piece upper and I heard the laceless have a slimmer overall profile (with less volume). All of that suit better my narrow feet but I wanna make sure it has a decent lockdown.

  • @BootWizard

    I haven't played in the laceless I've only tried them on. Because of the one piece they are slimmer I'd say that's true, but less adjustable, the Laced elite might still be best for you. I didn't really rate the lockdown in the laceless either.

    Great great review!! I’m considering these for my next boots, the non FT version. Just one thing I’m tossing up is, do I go for the regular FG version you have reviewed here, or the AG version, I’ve seen that is an option, and I know it isn’t that different. But I usually prefer buying AG boots even though I play majority of my games on FG, but I like that it gives me more confidence when I do play on AG fields

  • @BootWizard

    @BootWizard

    If you're going to be wearing on AG then the FG probably isn't the best choice. But, if you're mainly on FG I think the FG is a better soleplate.

    I have flat feet so I was a bit scared of getting these due to people saying these are narrower than the accuracy.1s. But then, I have been a Predator football boot fanboy for so long that I decided to take the risk and got these. Luckily that traditional lasing system helped a tone and the fit was near perfect. Close to the foot but didn't feel crushing or painful at all. Comfortable plus the ball control, passing and shooting were all really enjoyable.

    I have wide feet.. I wear a US 13D. I've always worn Preds, since 2001. I got the Elite LL and it only took me a week to break them in to the point where it doesn't hurt. That being said, they are narrower than my accuracy's and more like my edge's. and I also still have my precision's! I tried wearing them a year ago and the sole also cracked. Still never throwing them out.

    Great to get a viewpoint from someone with a wide foot. Thanks for that hopefully it helps a few people out. 100% narrower than the accuracy, that will probably still be my recommendation for the wide foot crew. Ah man, sorry to hear about your Precisions. You just want one more run in them and they end up giving up. As you saw, I feel your pain.

    How is the performance on AG fields with the rubber pallets on? Is safety a concern while using FG soleplate on AG pitch with this model.

  • @BootWizard

    @BootWizard

    I've not found too much problems, the obvious answer is to go for the AG plate but if you're set on the FG, you're likely to be okay, studs can be a little on the long side at times if your pitch isn't good quality but I've not found myself getting stuck at all

    Thanks for review ! So to sum it up, is the hype real ? I mean, everybody was very happy with Predator Accuracy, now these come out and it is like jesus came back from dead. I am still on the fence, these for full retail or Accuracy .1 below 100 €. Would it be justified spend that much more money ?

  • @BootWizard

    @BootWizard

    4 ай бұрын

    I don't think you can justify paying €260 Vs under €100 both for top end boots. These are great, really good and I much prefer them to the accuracy. The hype is justified, but they're not magic! Do I prefer them enough to spend an extra 150+ euros. Absolutely not. Realistically I'd always say for any boot it's not worth paying full price. Wait for sale or pick up an old colourway. .

    Would you, can you replace the insoles generally in football boots and if so which brand or is it the case where the insole with the boot works for that boot?

  • @BootWizard

    @BootWizard

    2 ай бұрын

    Generally top end boots will have removable insoles that are easily replaced. Even takedowns with glued insoles aren't that hard to remove and replace. As for a brand of insoles I have only tried a couple so couldn't really recommend. Realine and wefoot are very good if you can get them. I tend not to replace my insoles because it affects the boot and I'm trying to review them as close to retail as possible. But it's not a bad thing to do at all.

    do you think the low / narrow toe box can be broken in over time? Got the ag plate and wore them in a pick up game today. Length is perfect for me but some slight pinching in the toe box. Can’t go up half a size because I refuse to have space between the toe and boot 🫠

  • @BootWizard

    Stick with the size that feels comfortable out of the box. They will break in but it's not going to make a massive difference with these, so if the 11 is better, go with that, they've got a very narrow toebox

    It depends. If the low toe box is causing you to be uncomfortable then you have 2 options, go up half, which I usually don't recommend if it is going to give you too much room at the end of the boot, but in some circumstances it will be the right option, or, you just have to pick different boots with a shape better suited to you.
