1 - it's not "dino juice" No dinosaur has ever gone into the making of petroleum. Oil is made from decayed plant matter. It's much like the sludge you find in swamps. 2 - EV's require tremendous amounts of plastics, all of which are petroleum-based anyway. 3- lithium to power said EV's comes from exactly one place on the planet right now. China. North of 80% of all lithium is mined in China, most of which is along the Yellow River. Currently, over 93% of the world's lithium is refined in China. China does not have the environmental regulations surrounding such industry as western countries do. In fact, they have exactly zero environmental regulations at all. This is why the lithium mines in China and the sludge pits around there, are the most environmentally toxic places on the planet. 4- Most cobalt that is combined with the lithium to make the batteries, is mined with literal slave labor in Africa. China currently owns and operates all of those mines. Before you get on some pedestal about the second coming of the battery of Christ, actually research the topic so you know at least a little bit about what you are talking about.

They literally can't. Even the most cursory research will show that all the talking points they have are completely refuted by facts. EVs catch fire at a far lower rate than gas powered cars. A study of NEW CARS shows EV fires occurred in 0.0012% of EVs worldwide between 0 and 3 years old. Gas cars showed a rate of 0.1%. That means around 75000 gas powered vehicles caught fire worldwide last year. If they were all EVs instead only 900 of them would have caught fire.

IE Solyndra etc There is a sweet spot for EV's in our economy we need our leaders to get this right. Recently, I watched CEO of Ford talk about EV's Burlison should of watched it. All the gas stations didnt get built over night and I do not imagine the charging stations would get built overnight either. We are able to charge at home overnight, have the car heated or cooled to a comfortable temp. when we leave. It has a range that fits our daily driving needs. On a daily basis, there is no compromise for use, drive as you would an ICE vehicle. When we travel we can schedule charging stops along with rest stops and/or eating while the car charges. I will agree that right now tech has not reached the level of making them optimal for all. I do think the time is coming though.

Pete was being deceptive in his answer of .05% being bought by FEDERAL Gov. How many State and Municipalities have bought EV's because they were given grants from the Feds? A LOT! Electric busses bought that don't work and the company has now gone bankrupt so they can't be repaired. He said 80% of EV's are being charged at home...OK! But people who have that option are a small slice of the motoring public, so what's going to happen to all of the people who don't have that option? They must rely on public charging which is totally inadequate and while Pete said 'we've doubled the number of chargers'....they need 100X or more of what exist today. And...he didn't explain where all the power is supposed to come from to charge all the EV's if they flood the market with them? We're not building Base Generation and 'wind and solar' isn't going to cut it. You can't force a switch over to EV's quickly without the supporting infrastructure which doesn't exist now or for the foreseeable future. They're forcing companies to mass produce EV's that aren't selling and costing them BILLIONS of dollars to build vehicles that people won't buy. It's lunacy.

Build the charging station much like a truck stop with a 24/7 dinner so you can eat and do stuff while you wait to charge the car. A lot of charge stations are like this but most are just empty parking lots tucked away in a corner. That's just asking for trouble

Kids get locked in gas vehicles because the battery has depleted. It's why cars have a mechanical lock on one door (usually hidden by a cover). That is not a problem peculiar to EVs. Does Burlison know why there is an inside release on trunk lids since the EARLY 90s❓ I'd be happy to fill him in, I was there.

@@JohnWarner-lu8rq actually, it's not a LOLing matter. kids climb into trunks to retrieve something and the lid closes on top of them. If it's a hot day and they aren't released quickly, they soon die. It used to be anything up to 10 or 12 kids a year at one time. Hence this US legislation being introduced in the early 90s for an inside release. Some OEs even use a luminous handle.

@@nancylee8069 If you have no history of battery problems with previous cars, then your typical drive cycle is likely okay to keep a battery topped up. In which case it sounds like you have some other problem and fitting a new battery is just a sticking plaster to get you out of warranty. Have the car tested by a competent auto electrician for excessive quiescent drain. Faulty alternators, stereos, boot or glove box lights staying on, corroded connections and much much more could be draining the battery and damaging it. Unless you live somewhere exceptionally hot, like Pheonix, Arizona.

It was a stupid question as asked (as most of the questions were). It is not a problem specific to EVs. It *may* be a problem with newer vehicles in general. Check out all new vehicles. A lot of them don't have key holes anymore, instead opting to use electronics in some fashion. There *may* be a real concern for review there, but it's not in any way specific to EVs and was therefore irrelevant to EV specific discussion. This is Republicans once again throwing away a topic that might actually be worth discussing with Pete and instead trying to frame it as another attack on EVs in service to their corporate donors.
