I would say that "scam" is a heavy word and sounds too accusatory. He was just a kid having fun and dreaming of becoming one of the greatest. The hype and probably the lack of a good personal trainer might have harmed him.

He wasn’t a scam, we lived in the same city and shared play grounds. We played in the same professional club Reggiana, he was 2 years under us in the academy. Hachim was supposed to be that street footballer among us that would make it to the top in Italy. He was supposed to go to Inter Milan academy but last minute he was contracted by Galliani the ex Chief Executive of AC Milian they propelled him too quickly to the senior team when he was just a kid from streets football play ground of Reggio Emilia. He hasn’t even tasted enough professional academy for few years they wanted him to play in the Senior team at age 15. Which was odd, cuz he was only at AC Milian for 6 months. Reggiana was a Serie C club. So He wasn’t playing with top players or in the competitions of his age mate at a time in Italy. The potential was there, he had the skills which any of his age mate in world would dream of. I can still remember our street football in Reggio Emilia was very competitive, many of us played in professional clubs or had professional experiences. Hakim was very talented and learnt football and skills from cousins and friends. As usual AC Milian in decline used him for media coverage and attention. If Hakim had played another 3 seasons of youth football and learnt discipline and increased his physical strength he would had been a great player. They rubbed him of youth professional football and growth. Another giveaway was that he chose Morocco national team instead of Italy because of family push, with that he was abandoned by the Italian media and support needed to grow. He never played Primavera or under 21-23 football which is really detrimental for any young player not to play for those categories in football.

Honestly, this one reason why I think football today lacks great characters, like the Figo's and the Zidane's. The world of professional football is obsessed with finding the next big thing. That's why a lot players today never really reach fully potential. Players are given too much too soon, and quite honestly it takes time for a player to develop the all-round ability to became a great. Yes there are generational talents like Ronaldo (original) and Messi who are that talented, but is a rarity. Football is a big money business and I understand that there is huge profit in being lucky enough to discover such a gem, but they way it done today I feel is destroying the game. Today no-one can break the Lionel Messi and Ronaldo dominance due to this, players are given too much too soon and then they stop developing. With that add social media with I think inflates players ego so much that the get distracted from further developing themselves. Mourinho said once himself that the new age player is more concerned about popularity then anything. Case and example, If Paul Pogba was more focused on his football than distractions, he'd a living legend right now, he has the talent and not the grit and consistency.

Current players care more about social media, popularity and being larger than the game. Just look at Rashford, very nice guy (or that's what his image is at least). But I'd never imagine Keane, Vieira, Drogba, Puyol, Gerrard, van Nistelrooy etc playing victim card so much. They were all proper footballers and real leaders, not fake wanabe alphas who started press conference every time something unfair happened with them.

He’s still just 23 and it would be harsh to write him off from the start. Scam is to harsh. If you look at something positive in his career to date this past season he played 21 games with Reggina and Carpi combined and scored one goal and registered one assist (nearly 700 mins). Didn’t shine but this was just a humble reset of a neglected career. Teams neglected him, the media destroyed him, it is not his fault. Maybe the attitude when he was younger that he didn’t care that was just one thing but the rest was cruel and sad to see from the clubs he’s been with (except lamia). He had to grow up fast didn’t have time to mature, didn’t let him mature professionally. Like I said only 23.....he may not reach his potential but maybe.....just maybe if he can find a good team in the Serie B or C that believes in him and gives confidence in him to do what he can do best to the team. That would be positive/ great in some way. He needs to find a team ASAP because if not he might be without and team for 6 months and possibly a year and then his career is doomed. He’s still young but time is ticking and he needs a team that believes in him before it is too late. His future is up to him.....there is still some hope for Hachim😔

When you want to nurture a promising young talent, you have to focus on his training, his diet and fitness training as well. Ofc he will get trashed if you put him against a professional 28-30 year old defender because he knows how to deal with "joga bonito" players. It is very difficult to be Ronaldinho or Messi at such a young age. Even them needed a few years to get used to the professional level of play. So, long story short? Was Hachim Mastour a promising player...definitely! Was he nurtured properly for the big step towards professional football? CATEGORICALLY NOT! And he is not the only one who were propped as "the next big thing" . Balotelli, Sanogo, Mbaye Niang, Fabio, Rafael, Ganso, Marco Capuano etc.

there is a big difference between freestyle and football once you reach the senior level. Football is a simple game when it comes to playing, the fundamental is simply dribbling, passing, and shooting, but the challenge lies in playing matches against those who practiced the same fundamentals for over thousands of times. This is why at younger age groups, freestyling stands out because its youre showing individual skill and not everyone have practiced the fundamentals enough. But when you get to senior level, you will realize that no matter how good your freestyle are, those who perfected their dribbling, passing, and shooting will always destroy you and in the end it is a team sport.

I absolutely get the point you make here. I had a friend who was playing in a small team and we all though he was talented. So he got scouted and he was invited for a tryout with the youth team of a pro side, I actually went there with him. He was also from north Africa, we all were expecting him to pass. Then before the tryouts he didn't prepare, and there were some 30 other kids just as good. He missed the chance, and he was soo depressed he quit football then, and there. His life took a dark path from there, and I truth believe everyone killed him through high expectations. All of us played amateur football, some of us were good, but we have never seen an academy player. He had such a bright future, but in the end nothing came off it.

I wouldnt say it was a scam, its more like he probably believed his own hype and never managed to progress or get better than simply being able to do tricks, it's one of the things people don't realise, street football doesn't always translate into professional football skills. One reason why when I see people do all these tricks by themselves I'm like cool but they doesn't mean they'll be good then it comes to a game (basically F2) they both are the pinnacle of this street football videos yet they were never good enough to play pro while Jeremy talks as if he was the next biggest thing at arsenal after Henry. I remember seeing the same with a Newcastle player there was video of him megging people for fun and all these skills yet he never made it for Newcastle because Street skills don't always translate into skills in a match setting. Football is more than just technical skills its a lifestyle Ronaldo embodies this because he went from being a player who was all about skills and a trickster at a young age to a player who was all about results and end product so yes he can do all the tricks in the world but without goals those tricks mean nothing he realised that

Agree with everybody else. Scam is a heavy word. He is just someone who can’t realize his potential. Deulofeu was like him for a long time. He dribbled when he’s supposed to pass, he didn’t help his team enough and sometimes more focused on showboating. Although he’s been growing better as a player right now. Something Mastour couldn’t do. Mino Raiola being his agent didn’t help either since he’s notoriously famous for feeding his client’s ego and make it bigger.

This is why i keep telling youngsters nowadays that freestyle and real football r two different things.. if i tell u how many clowns i knew that thought they r neymar or ronaldinho just because they knew a few tricks then they ended up humiliated at football trials, many things need to be gathered in a footballer to be good enough, ill give u an exemple: lots of ppl think that a defender should be tall and strong while in fact what makes a good defender is great timing, inteligence , good reaction, fast in taking a decision and understanding ur position and also how the strikers move, u can b tall n strong n quick like usain bolt but if u cant even co operate with other defenders in ur team on the offside line ull b screwd .. look how even usain bolt with his immense speed n fantastic body shape couldnt realise much in football when he tried.. i remember when i joined a football academy the first time we played in a big pitch even if i was playing with inferior quality players but the way the football was played was very difficult to understand nd following the coachs tactics was a nightmare, in real football u should be tactically great First before being technically great, and u should be very aware of ur surroundings and where every team mate is standing u should know their moves before they make it and same for ur opponents u have to expect their moves right, i remember we had a really skinny striker with us in the team he was just out of shape but was so smart in the box, always knew where to stand n where to position him self n knew when to run for the ball... he wasnt the fastest or the strongest but always managed to be in the right time n place to score goals, he scored so many it pissed off defenders who couldnt understand how a small teenager always had advantage on them..he eventually benched our main n9 who was twice his size and we ended up winning a trophy that year thnx to him, later on we heard he had a test with a great team in division 2 (our team was like in division 7 back then) but somehow he didnt go to that test because he had no money and it was in a city far away.. im sure that guy couldve been the next Jamie Vardy or the next Filippo Inzaghi...

We tend to forget most young players from academies never ever even see a minute of top flight football, or even 2nd division (in a decent country). Many people saying the opposite, but i agree with the title. He was a football freestyler but got into professional football only because of the way he presented himself through social media and the way the media went on to present him. Maybe he could've become a second or third division footballer (not really that bad they earn the aame as many other top careers doing what they love) but he clearly didn't have much discipline either. Also many people say that he couldn't develop into any position, bur remember that freestyler ≠ footballer. I think he still could have a future in football though, but as an influencer or youtuber or tiktoke, not as a player

The kid is missing workrate,no intention of becoming a great player,no dedication...Talent without any kind of hardwork is just 💩. It's not all his fault but he needed a good mentality and workrate which he doesn't have and will never have.I have come across a bunch of people like this...not everyone is meant for the spotlight and not evryone changes for the better. His agent wasn't Raiola from the start. His agent was Paolillo at first, and he tried to advertise the guy too much, spamming his videos everywhere on YT and basically killing his career. Mastour was outstanding with Milan U16-17 but a very average player even in Milan primavera (U19) during the following years, everyone recognize him as not ready even for U19 but Milan called him up anyway for the first team. He never learnt how to play for a team, how to properly pass a ball and when to do so. He never become a football player. Then, Raiola (who criticized his developement in previous years "I don't like the circus they created around Mastour", he said) came, signed a new contract with Milan and loaned him out to Malaga. The rest is correct. At the moment he is a free agent and Raiola is not his agent anymore since 2018
