Just HOW BAD Was the 2022 NFL Rookie QB Class? (Where Are They Now?)

Спорт

The 2022 NFL Draft class was always considered weak when it came to the QB position, but two years later no one expected it would be this bad. Today, I want to talk about the 2022 rookie QBs, their pre draft hype and what has happened to each drafted player, enjoy!

I like these videos. I think this is going to become more common as the college game gets more like basketball on grass and players never staying in one place very long to refine skills and just rely on talent. This year's class is another glaring example: Williams skillset DOES NOT immediately translate to the pro game and his maturity is questionable at best, Daniels was atrocious at ASU and essentially had one amazing season that started out rocky but benefited from 2 NFL caliber wide outs and his ability to make things happen with his feet (he won't be doing that at the next level). Maye is underwhelming at best but seems like a serviceable spot starter but likely backup. Nix is basically a gimmick and Penix is older and a lefty (minimal NFL success for QBS). The difference between the college and pro game has just become vast at the quarterback position

Going into the draft, everyone knew that it was a subpar class, and surprisingly, teams drafted like it was. In a normal year, someone would have made Malik Willis the Trey Lance of the draft and overdraft him, but he dropped to the 3rd round. Still pretty shocked Sam Howell dropped to the 5th round. I thought he should have gone in the 3rd and was really hoping my team picked him in the 4th. There is also a lot of "situation matters" in this as well. Pickett had the misfortune of being in a Matt Canada offense, so we probably never saw the best out of Pickett. Corral got hurt in his first preseason, then everything changed in the org and there was no place for him. Howell got his opportunity, but it was hardly ideal. Meanwhile, Purdy went to the perfect situation for him.

In fact, I remember him running a lot. Check the season before when he had weapons to throw to. As far as his time with the Commanders, Riverboat Ron was so out of it, he didn't know whether he was coming or going and Eric Beinemy was a joke at OC and did a disservice to Sam. If Sam gets with the right OC and QB Coach who can fully utilize his talents he will definitely shine. Don't give up on him yet.

This has led me to wonder if it is that the quarterbacks are really bad or is it that the NFL has just become more impatient. As a lifetime Broncos fan from the very beginning----------1961-------I was really hoping we'd get Sam Howell. I watched how well he played against us & I thought there just might be real potential there. HOWEVER, on seeing how the rest of the season went for him, I've come to heave an enormous sigh of relief that The Payton / Paton passed on him. As of now, that 3rd Rd pick is our only Day 2 pick, & we need it . So-----------at this point--------it's Ryan Tannehill, or The Draft. I like Tannehill, but I'm guessing his agent wants way---------WAY --------too much for even a 1 yr deal. So, as of now, it's Stidham & The Nooch ; that's it. Personally, I don't want our team moving up too far if at all. McCarthy is now, out of reach . Drake Maye might fall, but of he does, The Vikings or The Raiders might move on him. if so, so be it. I like him, but I see a lot of work needed to clean him up. Michael Penix jr for me, just has Raiders Black & White all over him. And, he could be, scary good. For us however, Bo Nix should be who we target. I don't see another Elway in him, but I do see another possible Jake Plummer, a Broncos QB, I absolutely loved, & just hated to see end his career with that hip injury. Jake didn't have an Elway or Jay Cutler arm, but he could move, played smart, & his teammates loved him. He brought the team sooo close to The AFC Championship, & who knows what could have happened had he stayed healthy ? I see a lot of those traits in Bo Nix. So---------whatever we need to do to get Bo, I think we need to do it. We may regret passing on Penix if we do. Maybe, we take him ? Possibly, but I see an inevitability of The Raiders, with him, & Nix, with us. We'll see. I just don't want us to make a fatal error by once again giving up draft capital----------which to date, has cost us dearly !! ---------to get McCarthy. We have only1, maybe 2 players, any team would want : PS2, & Quinn Meiners. And I just can't see Payton / Paton, being that reckless. And for me, I see McCarthy & Maye as the 2 with the highest BUST potential ; one, McCarthy, because he is way over-hyped, & the other, Maye, because I see Drew Lock the 2nd . Remember, Lock too, had size, arm, mobility, & the numbers. What he DID NOT HAVE , & still does not, is footwork, & processing . In his time in Denver, Lock was THE most frustrating QB I have ever seen in Broncos Orange & Blue ! And maybe I'm wrong, but I see Lock # 2, in Drake Maye. Now, maybe, I'm FOS . But, what if I am not ?-------MJL, 77 y/o

Purdy is just better than your QB. He's the most efficient QB in the NFL right now. Other systems let guys have 500+ attempts. Purdy isn't even given 450 attempts yet he still puts up more yards, more touchdowns, and more wins than your QBs. He shouldn't be putting up these numbers in this system. He's outpacing it by a long shot. Cry harder.

That is insane for his first full year as a starter. This is not just the system. You arent plugging any QB in and having that success, hello, trey lance. Purdy is truly special. Pickett had Pittsburgh, but got some bad play calling with Matt Canada. Willis was stuck behind an old school playstyle of Mike Vrabel, but he can’t read defenses as well. Ridder just can’t read defenses, have seen him play and he’s not bad, but when you have Pitts, Bijan, and London open, but won’t hit them because your first read is Jonnu or someone else then that’s on coaching. Arthur Smith was garbage. Corral never got a fair chance cause he got hurt on the Panthers. Purdy was put into the best situation to succeed and develop. Overall, 2021/22 hasn’t been good. Drafting a QB has always been a crapshoot. Just look at the track record of 27 1st overall picks that are QBs in superbowl era : -4 Enshrined : Bradshaw, Elway, Peyton Manning, Aikman 2 that ought to get the votes : Eli Manning, Stafford Burrow trending in the right direction. -6 certified busts :Plunket, Bartkowski, Couch, Carr, Russell, Bradford. Plunket ended up having a fine career, not for the team that drafted him. Young trending there so far, but it's just one season. Peyton Manning and Aikman both had forgettable rookie season as well. The rest of the crop is anywhere in between, some of which were worth their draft status. Newton, Luck, Bledsoe. What the 2022 story tells is that we'd think the scouts and GMs has learned to know better, they dont. But they still need to take a flyer on those guys. Chicago Bears, be warned!

Then he got to deal with rusty Bill O’Brien, Mac Jones being a diva, and a lack of receiving talent outside of Hunter Henry, Demario Douglas, and Kendrick Bourne. I can see Jacoby Brissett starting for 4-8 weeks before either Zappe or whoever the Patriots draft takes over. I want Mac to do well and have a Geno Smith style resurgence. He was put into a worse situation than Zappe, as he lost his trusted OC, and, more importantly was expected to replace Brady. Mac needed a fresh start more than Zappe did.

When they go to the line of scrimmage they understand, more often then not, where each defensive player is going to be. That's one of the reasons Purdy is so good and the rest of the class wasn't. I don't think this years QB draft class is going to be any better. I think one QB might make it, and the rest won't get their 5th year option. And Da Bears will be looking for a new QB in 4 years.
