Goldstein you are 100% wrong. Even a kid knows that Onana clattered the Wolves players, got nowhere near the ball and it was a 100% penalty

There, you have United fans in general. One of the most deluded bunch on the planet.
When Goldstein says “people make mistakes” the problem is the mistake that’s been made is the initial call on the field and VARs job is to remedy that mistake with technology and context. The problem people have is that even with those tools the on field referee doesn’t have the VAR ref is STILL GETTING IT WRONG

If that was the Burnley goal keeper instead of Onana and collided with two sheffield players there would be no comments on the incident at all from anyone.
@yemi9196

There will be no comment because it would have rightly been a penalty. Clubs like burnley and sheffield don't get to be lucky like ManU
Why is this guy making excuses for the ref and var
Oh, Goldstein again. The Wolves player jumped from a standing start, Onana rushed to the ball, missed, took the Wolves out, clear pen, NOT a "coming together". VAR, as Benty says, should've just ask the ref to have another look.
I actually can’t believe I’m about to say this, I agree with Danny Murphy. The bad decisions are so bad and so clear that we don’t need to hear how they got to that decision, if anything it makes it worse because it compounds their incompetence. Start punishing the refs and maybe things will change. Just coming out and apologising doesn’t change anything, it doesn’t give points back to those teams and those decisions are more than just the individual match they happen in, we’ve seen teams win and lose leagues or get relegated by fine margins, it’s just not good enough to say sorry.

Onana came for the ball realised he weren’t getting there and clattered the wolves players. Penalty, simple as
the Onana decision was clear to me watching at real time ,,,no tech ,,,the refs lack the courage against big teams
If it was the Wolves keeper smashing into 2 Man Utd players a penalty would have been given no danger. The ref bottled it because it was Old Trafford plus the time left to be played 🤪
Darren has it right. Do the job. No reason that hockey refs are able to make more accurate calls.
@BigBear_87

hockey refs make equally awful calls
The ref only needs one person talking to him like rugby. Players need to shut up. It never makes a difference. That audio was a shitshow
For big decisions the on pitch ref makes like red cards and penalties the ref should always go over to check again on the monitor without having to be asked to. Then the ref can stick or change their decision having had the benefit of the second look without any faffing about.
If you follow what var are saying the decision on the Utd keeper doesn't make any sense
Goldstein’s takes : Onana’s pen : I now understand why it wasn’t given (despite it being clear to everyone why it should have been) Havertz doesn’t get the same pen Rashford was : They don’t have time, it was a split second decision (despite making two completely different decisions on a very similar situation a week apart) Shut up Wankstein, imagine having the temerity to tell bent to take his Arsenal hat off while yours is firmly on, what a useless pundit.

Mark, they have the time to make the right decision, they’re not obligated to make it in 20 seconds!
You totally want to hear how they got to the decision so you can hold them accountable and continue to improve the process!!!
I get really irritated by the sweeping statement of 'just do your job' from Bent, if he holds that sentiment for refs then why shouldnt he hold the same sentiment for strikers scoring with every attempt doesnt matter if they are falling over or swamped by 3 defenders or running away from goal. The pressure of the game shouldnt matter they should just do what they are paid to do and score every single attempt at goal. Refs are gonna miss things/get them wrong in the moment. I think Andy is right the refs should be given space by the players to have that conversation with VAR, just listening to that mess of audio from the Ref Mic'd up show compared to refs in rugby is night and day. maybe giving them thinking space to process the discussion might improve the outcomes.
Refs have made a decision in 1 second for years with no second opinion, no slow mo replay and now 20 seconds isn’t enough smh
The mic'd aspect is brilliant. It takes away the argument of bias because you can see the ref's logic. You can argue they made mistakes, but surely there wasn't any favouritism displayed.
Goldstein is going to give bias opinion about the refs as both incidents benefitted his team. Bent is spot on, why not show the Rashford penalty? But they won't as you will clearly see discrepancies between the 2 penalty decisions.
I would love to hear the convos for the Romero handball and the City penalty. One was a penalty, the other wasn't. Similar incidents
The thing they're missing here is this - it is irrelevant whether the ball was gone or not, Onana clattered into the wolves player.
@sammutphil

Exactly. It was not a collision of players. Onana tool him out...
Irrespective of what team it happens to the VAR is inconsistent and it's messing up the game. If it's a clear and obvious foul then it needs to be given. The inconsistencies are atrocious.
Big picture. This is a positive step for the game. Many have been shouting for transparency and accountability from the officials. I just HOPE we see more consistency in the interpretation of the laws. Eg: can you be offside by an arm pit? i.e Garnacho… Can a goalie clatter into attackers and it not be a foul i.e Onana? 🤷🏽♂️ I guess these are questions for philosophers
More impressed? Made it even worse 😂😂 Way too much over thinking

That's all I could think when listening to that recording, way too much overthinking. Onana clatters into the player and it's a pen, I don't know why they are talking about both not getting the ball.
Why can't we just hear them during the game?
late and clumsy he says and the REF totally ignores the VAR !!!! unreal… they are the worst
My mate has a seat behind var monitor, We always begging him to be 1st fan to unplug it
In rugby when TMO is used players aren't allowed near the ref. It's not difficult to implement. Ex footballers wanted clarity now they get it and there still not happy refs have no chance with this lot
Howard Webb named Chief Ref When City set out to equal Utd 3peat Casemiro leg breaker on Akanji ignored Conspiracy Theory to call it Corruption?🤔
Clearly bottled it because of the occasion- last minute at Old Trafford. Simon Hooper should’ve just been instructed to go and look at the monitor- especially with all the noise going on around him and in his ear. What was mad from the audio is that the ref seemed to be more focused on giving Gary O’Neil a yellow for dissent which highlights how common sense wasn’t used at all. Darren is sound and TalkSport are lucky to have him by the way.
Decisions are generally subjective, it’s judgement not mistakes.
@paulmartin9194
9 ай бұрын
2 examples. Mac Alistair red card, the only person on the planet who thought his tackle deserved a red was the ref. 2. Trent Alexander Arnold is blatantly fouled and shoved off the pitch and yet Gordon receives nothing. That's not subjective, that's corrupt
They talk to eachother way way too much and it can only make things more confusing while they've got tens of thousands of people in the stadium yelling over them
Do it like rugby and dont let the players speak until ref has spoke to var....
Its not a natural collision though, because the Wolves player jumps first and then gets clattered. If they'd arrived at the same time then you can say its a collision, but the contact is completely initiated by Onana. The Wolves player jumps for the ball and then gets cleaned out. Where the ball ends up is irrelevant really, you can't just two foot someone off the ball for example and then say well the ball wasn't anywhere near me so it's not a foul. Onana smashes into the Wolves player despite knowing he's going to win the ball ahead of him.
I like VAR as a concept but the implementation is all wrong for me. VAR should be there for the “clear and obvious” errors only. Right now VAR focusses on getting all major decisions “correct”, which is near impossible. Instead it should just focus on the easy wins - this will majorly reduce the time looking at things. No sending refs to the monitor it should be that “clear and obvious”. VAR should also serve as a hub for the on pitch referee to store soft calls on attacks/offsides and VAR can see if they are wrong. If debatable then go with onfield referees call.
That referee can barely hear ANYTHING that he being told, players need to get booked if they approach the ref, that's AS MUCH of a problem with VAR as anything else
That Offside Technology which we saw in World Cup is far better than drawing Lines from a specific angle and Serie A is using it this Season but Premier League, one of the best League in the World didn't think about it. I would love to see Media discussing about Akanji offside vs Fulham. You won't see anything about it.
@peterharwa9472

Premier league doesn't deserve to be called one of the best leagues in the world. Man City has turned it into a farmers league. The officiating is horrendous. The league has become very soft, the bias towards the big teams is clear for all to see.
I genuinely enjoyed it and think it's a good idea. It showed how tough it is for refs having players in their ear while listening what the VAR team are saying
2nd best show on talksport 🔥🔥. Goldstein 🙌🏾
You can always forgive a ref for making the wrong call in the heat of the moment. The game is moving so fast, things happen in a split second and sometimes they don't have the best angle or the view is blocked etc and then take into account the pressure of the moment and being in the stadium with the fans and players etc. You can forgive a ref for getting something wrong, what you can't forgive is someone getting it wrong when they're sitting in a room watching it back 30+ times with all different angles and speeds, being able to zoom in and out and watch it in slow mo but still get it wrong! Can't ever defend that

Goldstein waffling nonesense as usual. Excuses excuses upon excuses. If with var a ref cannot get a decision right then there's something wrong.
The Refs SHOULD Go Automatically To The Monitor. Simple As That. And The Monitors Should Be Nowhere Near The Dugouts.
It's an absolute joke. Keep the goal line tech and have a proper ref.
CLASH?!? Ffs😂
Onana was dangerous play
They didn't Jump into each other Onana pole axed him lol
What I’d like to see is 4 weeks where every matcheeek the referees show us ALL VAR decisions (good or bad). I’d love to see what they count as a “positive VAR decision” which I reckon is a 1 meter offside
Andy talkin sense for second, thats rare,,i totally agree players shld be barred a few meters frm the ref wen he is getting info frm VAR room😊😊🎉🎉 kudos@Andy
Are the players not also under pressure to perform Andy? We're critical of them when they don't. Refs should face the same scrutiny.
Andy "we had to look at so many times compared to the refs", that's why they're PROs Andy. Their job is to be way better than the public at making decisions in terms of refereeing. They train & prepare for it, if they make the decision wrong or are rushed, lose their vision/rationale, then they're bad at their jobs. Any person doing a job has to improve & do a job faster than someone who has never done it.
What i think danny was trying to say is that excuses dont change what happened so why hear excuses
The Wolves decision was awful, as was the Havertz. Both were incorrectly called by VAR
The words "i think", immediately make the decision useless. You never hear a Rugby Union off pitch ref use "i think". It should always be a fact. Which means, they make decisions purely based on best guess. That in turn means no consistency. In this case he was clearly interfearing. The subjectivity of the rules gives you multiple decisions.
The players dont respect the Ref at all.
There is a law to stop players, it is called decent?
Why does the ref not have a safe zone, when he is speaking to VAR, Any player who approaches him is a yellow card..I suggest on the Centre Spot, any player going into the circle gets a yellow...EASY FIX
Goldstein would actually give an anadin a headache
Just do your job...!!!
It should be like rugby only the captain can talk to the Ref.
I like to hear both correct and bad decisions, otherwise if we only put up the bad ones we are gonna wanna sack every single referee. Just as a player and manager have a bad game, the referees can as well. It's all part of us understanding their situations that led up to a decision. It's like viewing only bad highlights of a player, noones gonna praise that player. The referee also needs a pat on the back sometimes. They are human.

@@sammutphil This is a step in the right direction. They let us in in their workspace to get a better understanding on how they function. There is no reason to be negative. Like any company you go back and learn from your mistakes and we need to bare in mind that VAR is fairly new and how they do things will change a lot for the next 5 upcoming years. It would be a problem if their representatives didn’t realize there has been wrong doings, but he is. They are clearly admitting what has gone wrong. Can’t be mad about that.
Bravo Bent!!! Goldstein is an incompetent pundit who should never present a programme on Talksport. Makes me laugh... Wasn't a penalty?!?!? Hello?!?!?!?
If they can't make the decisions then they shouldn't be on the pitch!!
On the 1 hand you want var to double check the decision is correct. On the other hand you dont want var to tell the ref what too look at as it influences his decision? What do you want then??
Easy for Andy to be sympathetic when ManU have gotten benefited 3 times in 3 weeks.
He definitely has his utd cap on....bent 100% right peno all day
Docs should not be mic'd up. Refs yes but not the docs...i mean, do we really want to be able to hear what was being said when Eriksen was on his back?
Goldstein saying not got his Utd hat on while making blatant Utd comments is a joke!!
After listening to the referee, & VAR officials discuss Onana taking out 2 Wolves players. Is completely opposite to Andy's! No wonder they got it wrong. They make a simple process chaotic. All the VAR official/s should do. Is tell the referee to review a play, or not. Then shut up, and let the on field referee watch the replays. & make his decision. That's it!
These recordings make them sound worse!
Thats rubbish. hes talking over the var refs, so i couldn't hear what they were talking about. How does that help?
I also hate the excuse, ‘mistakes happen’ yes, mistakes happen in the game and at the time it happens and the pace it happens that’s fine BUT When they watch it back again and again and again and STILL get it wrong, I’m sorry but it is pure incompetence. I’m with Darren.
More accurate but less entertaining
Andy saying it’s not a foul because he’s not close to the ball, ok then let’s just kick everyone that’s nowhere near the ball 👍🏼 ok Andy give ur head a wobble mate
Goldstein with another shocking take regarding United.
Sounds like there far to many cooks in all this.
Darren is intelligent mehn
You can't defend crap decisions on every Match Day this season by using the 'People make mistakes' excuse cause they have all the technology now.
Find the whole thing absurb. Why are we making officals behind the scenes instantly famous and above their station. Talk about making a simple game more complicated.
If it's to much pressure for them maby they shouldn't be referees
It was a penalty! If Onana charged at the ball and the Wolves player would not be right in front of him then that's a conversation but Onana went for either getting the ball or tearing the Wolves player's head off. The player seeing that instead of trying to hit the ball will be forced to move out of the way to protect his head. It's not boxing,it's football and that was a million percent penalty! Same crap happened in the Carabao Cup with Chelsea's GK Sanchez who went to box the ball and went extremely aggressively towards it and the Wimbledon player and it was given as a penalty. It's not flipping Boxing!
It’s up to ref to yellow card the players that barrage him, the captain is the only player that should approach the ref and even he should not be allowed influence him just get an explanation from him after the fact.
People do make mistakes, but not this many. I've made exactly 1 mistake in the last 4 years in my current job. And guess what, I never made it again. The fact these referees know they make mistakes, do nothing to correct them, and then make the EXACT same mistakes again is the problem.
Bent is good.
Explain it correctly he has come out not in control and clattered the player it isn't 2 players challenging, he has no clue
Why was Zidane given a Red Card ? he didn't have the ball either.
You could get a 16 year old Twitch Streamer kid, who plays Fortnite on 8 different monitors to sit and make the VAR decisions, it's not a complicated job, you sit and watch a game of football, you can rewind and forward it, your job is to just tell the referee there's a potential foul.
The Wolves one was a clear foul live you didn't need long to clear that up won't have an easier decision all season. Needed seconds goldstien has the Man U Google on with that one.
What a load of rubbish from Goldstein. "Heat of the moment decision" should even be an excuse because they have a multitude of cameras to look at a number of times before making a decision and informing the referee. I've seen matched where VAR decisions took close to 10 mins. No excuse for mistakes from VAR.
Goldstein is wrong in what he’s saying and I completely agree with Darren
Benty what you're not getting is that you can't get the refs going to the screens all the time if you're not sure, we haven't got all day, the games are long enough already now + they should be only going over if it's a clear and obvious error not because VAR is unsure
I'm a United fan and I have no idea what Goldstein is going on about. Embarassing that people like him are United fans! Drags the rest of us down! It was 100% a penalty! Onana got nowhere near the ball and took out the Wolves striker (who wasn't the player who won the ball!). If Onana had been slightly late and collided with Dawson after he'd headed the ball, it would be a bit more contentious. Not the case though. Onana just came steaming out and got his attempt to win the ball all wrong and took out an opposition player!
Andy is is just dull at this point, everyone and their mother knew that was a pen.. I’m glad Arsenal battered them after that Garnacho offside 😂
Clearly wrong decisions by these officials. They’re absolute fools. Captains only going up to refs only.
