Jurassic Reimagined P.1 Giants in The Sands of Time
Ғылым және технология
Join us as we explore the Late Jurassic Morrison Formation in search of giant dinosaurs, and clues to how they lived and evolved in their ancient world...
In Jurassic Reimagined part 1, we'll introduce you to the Morrison Formation, what it is, and how it formed, and what we know about it's geology and its dinosaur diversity. And even after 150 years of intense scientific exploration and study, the Jurassic rocks of north America still hold many mysteries, and countless fossils still waiting to be discovered.
This documentary series was made in collaboration with paleontologists Matt Wedel, ReBecca Hunt-Foster and John Foster, and was filmed by paleoartist Brian Engh over the course of five years exploring the Jurassic rocks of Utah and Colorado.

You can see John Foster hard at work in the fossil preparation lab at the Utah Field House of Natural History State Park Museum in Vernal Utah, where you can also see some of the fossils we've collected during the making of this documentary.
We also owe a big thanks to Dr. Randall Irmis, Carrie Levitt-Bussian and Tyler Birthisel, the Natural History Museum of Utah, who have been working with John in collaboration with the to excavate the rare sauropod Dystrophaeus.

I am still working on Jurassic Reimagined parts 2 and 3, in part because we have found SO MANY new fossils! Since releasing part 1 we've been excavating, preparing and identifying finds, and refining our understanding of their stratigraphic position in time. All of these new discoveries and perspectives will be included in the upcoming segments of the doc, along with a TON of new art and animation. I had no idea how premature I was in releasing part 1 when I did, but the rabbit hole of the Morrison just keeps. on. going. ALSO, I have been really busy with commissions, so unfortunately Jurassic Reimagined has spent some time on the back burner while I make a living. If you want to help make it possible for me to spend more time focusing on my own projects, consider supporting my work on patreon.com/historianhimself where you can also see some behind the scenes sneak peaks of upcoming parts of Jurassic Reimagined...

This is far too good. Everytime someone wants to learn about Morrison, I redirect them to this video because it does a fantastic job. Also, can I just say you have an epic voice?
I grew up loving dinosaurs from the late 70's into the 80's and on. I remember the art of the time with all the sluggish, plodding behemoths. Its pretty awesome seeing how the view on them has changed over the decades. I am still fascinated by the discoveries being found and sometimes wish I had pursued a career in paleontology like I used to dream about as a kid.

Me too Mr Argyle. I’m a historian though, so not too bad. Im still interested in palaeontology though.
This is incredible!! Can’t wait for part II
Your artistic depictions of the colors, flaps, crests, and the like are refreshing. Not overly flamboyant and not conservatively drab. It's exciting to think of realistic possibilities!
Well done, this documentary addresses things I never knew about this formation
That animation of the ocean receding was probably the best depiction of geological processes I've ever seen. Really explains a lot

Yes; that and the comparison with the present-day sand layers was great.
I was born and raised and still live in Utah. It's my home and always will be. And i always enjoy watching stuff about my home and it's past. This state and it's sheer beauty never ceases to amaze me after 42 years here.
Production quality was amazing. Super excited for the next part.
This guy is not only a formidable artist, but a born narrator.
Dude how did you get so good at art? And did you study dinosaurs in college? This is awesome

You don’t have nearly the subs or views your video quality demands. Fantastic work.
This is seriously amazing. From the documentary elements to the animation, you completely blew me away with this film. Can't wait for part 2!!!
Dude, this is seriously ambitious (along with everything else you do), so gracious that you're sharing this for free! Can't believe you don't have a bigger following!

Your channel Now Is what the history channel use to be … Extremely well done my done my friend
Beautiful, love the nature fotography and the narration fits perfectly! Interesting choice to show some really colorful (and well-fed) sauropods - can’t wait to see more of those.
Engaging, interesting and with tons of on point visualisation. This is great stuff Brian, I really enjoyed it.
I am loving this soundtrack, your music and bass-y voice are lend themselves to documentaries amazingly well, easily the best in SciCom on youtube in my opinion.
Wow. Well done! Beautiful art, beautiful visuals... excellent explanations. I’m very excited to see the rest of your production. 🦕🦖
These are some of the best dinosaur content on KZread like this is amazing. This deserves more recognition
Fantastic! Really well done! Can’t wait for part 2!
Still can't wait for part 2 😢
Really fantastic! Wait for part II
I have a feeling this is just a warm-up and we're going to get to see even better stuff in the upcoming parts. So nicely done! Can't wait for Part II!
This was amazing!!! :D Incredible job! 10 minutes and I already learnt a lot about the famous Morrison
Love it! Thanks for explaining the different layers of the formation; I didn't know anything about that before.
Very nice, congratulations! Looking forward to part II.
How does this guy not have a Netflix deal?
This is so fascinating! I just discovered your channel and I absolutely love it! You have kindled an interest in dinosaurs that I never knew existed within me.
Wow, this was fantastically done! Great editing and graphics, very well put together. I learned a lot about the geological processes behind the Morrison Formation and I can't wait for the next part
Extremely educative and always entertaining. I wish this gets more attention!
I love everything about this! I wish it went at a little slower pace in places--like that process of how our understanding of the sauropod anatomy has changed, and in viewing the photo of your group. Can't wait for parts 2 and 3!
Production quality on this is fantastic.

I was watching, thinking, I know that music - jeez it sounds like Historian Himself - and it was! Great stuff - looking forward to part 2!
Very interesting to see the animation of the climate change going on that formed the Morrison landscape, and then a contemporary example of it. I find a lot of documentaries don't do a good enough job of showing that. Well done!
What a great start! I hope this is only part 1 of 99!
Amazing work man keep it I'm keen for any content from you.
This was really well done. I liked the animation of volcanoes erupting during the sequence on the origin of the Morrison. And the color highlighting of the bones during the ranger's talk really helped me to connect with the specimens.
I never get tired of this
Fantastic show! Thank you, Mr. Engh!
This is better than TV. Awesome Job.
So glad I stumbled upon your artwork and channel. Super informative, and of course the visuals are stunning. A major broadcasting/production company doesn't even make stuff this quality in terms of paleontology docs.
Also there is a book called Dragonteeth based on the quest of Marsh and Cole by Micheal Crichton, which was published after his death.
Amazing! Really well done and looking forward to the next video.
Love what you do man👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿 “I NEEED MORE of your channel!!!!”

SO DO IT.
I have always understood how different environments produce different rock layers in an abstract academic sort of way (I'm a total lay person regarding geology) and the depiction in this video really helped me grasp it mentally. Perfectly scratched an intellectual itch that I didn't know I had. Can't wait for more.
This is such high quality work and this video is of such a high quality it boggles my mind there there isn't more views on it
This was really cool. Thank you.
Where is part 2? Was hyped to check that out but its not out yet
i really like how you used your illustrations for the animation. That's a really nice style :)
this is excellent nice to watch some of the hidden gems in the community like this!!!
YOU ARE AWESOME.
This is a really excellent channel!
I’m really enjoying the quality of footage, pictures, video demos, etc. and of course the amount of knowledge you put into these phenomenal videos!!! For ie: your argument (which is entirely logical) on big ass dinos not being grey or boring flat colors but instead probably mimicked colorful feathers and skin much like birds! Love the arguments brought up, the theories and ideas behind them… pls don’t quit sharing!!!
Wow. This is wonderful!
Wonderful! I hope your success here inspires others to make similar documentaries
Superb, thank you so much
this is very professional, it's great.
This guy deserves more views
Amazing! As always.
Amazing!!!!!
Great video
Great stuff
I think the reason why so many different types of bones are found so close together is because they were transported in flood waters. This would account for the fact the bones are so scattered and fragmented. Its rare to find a whole skeleton of one dinosaur there.
What a great documentary film !!! I liked a lot. Greetings from Jalisco, México .
Very nice well done
Um... when is part two this is extremely well done...
Remarkable..........!
This channel has lots of great video on it that paleo-fiends such as myself would find interesting. The low sub count is criminal for the caliber of content that's on here. Subbed and Liked❗✔
The job doesn't pay much, and it requires a lot of time and patience, but I still envy these guys.
Absolutely fantastic job on this! Honestly, based on your descriptions of the preservational environments of the middle and lower Morrison formations, it seems like one plausible cause for the rarity of dinosaur remains would be because those marine/tidal flat environments were not ideal habitats for the same dinosaurs found in the Upper Morrison. That said I do not work in the Morrison so perhaps this idea has already been rejected for some reason, just thought I'd put that out there. We also have a HUGE Brachiosaurus foot in the KU collection that can't go on display due to being radioactive! The astragalus alone is at least 40-50cm wide!
Thank you!
Nice bit of film.
Nice animation 👍👌
Sickest guy!
9:13 that's an interesting take on sauropod vocalization. But how do we even know what these things sound like without the fossilization of voice boxes or the syrinx?
