What's funny to me is that I can TOTALLY understand why someone whom DOESN'T understand the passion of the Grand National faithful, would think this car is junk, and yet I still understand that the very reason for this video, is that there are people in this world whom worship these G-Body's. Me, being one of them. Kudos and thumbs up.........

This car had a high stall torque convertor from the factory.I was glad to see the white letter tires and original GN wheels. The rear body mounts may need replacing deteorated possibly.I would put 89 octane or higher in her and some berryman chem tool to the gas to clean her out. I used it twice and really improved acceleration on my cutlass with the regular 3.8 v6 which is a a Buick Engine. I was glad to see the the improvements you made.Take good care of her and give lots of love to her she deserves it.

@@ClassicGBodyGarage While working at Pontiac G Car Assy I was very observant .The Grand Nationals, Monte Carlo SS and the Cutlass 442's all seemed to come with white letter tires.I thought I was the only one who didnt like blackwalls LOL. If you got pin stripes they were painted on and not tape. The only exception was the Monte SS had decals and maybe the 442 had a tape stripe treatment. Before you said in the throttle position sensor video replacement how did I know it was a 442 before you said it? By the tape stripe treatment on the front bumper! The 442 has 180 hp and a special cam I believe. The Grand national had 235hp.When the Grand Nationals were coming out there was a chip you could get maybe still available today and you had to put in a cooler T Stat I was told.

I've got a project 87 Turbo T that's in need of alot of body &!chassis work and popping the hood shows an ugly LC2 motor but it runs strong. i try avoid driving it since it is a bit of a safety hazard how it is right now. Last time I drove it I was fun. Grand Nationals were never good at burnouts. A stock 5spd mustang or camaro would embarrass them off the line, then the turbo kicks and the the GN wins the race. Now I knew a guy back in the day with a 50shot on his GN. That car could lay a couple of black streaks on the pavement! A quality converter should be the next mod. Or maybe a 50-shot! Cool car.

What??? LOL, I used to go to drag strip all the time in late 80s early 90s, the Grand Nationals hook up way better than Mustang 5.0s, the GNs destroyed the stangs, especially in Cold NY where turbo cars run faster, the GNs had 60 foot times of 1.6-1.7…my favorite memory of Leicester New York drag strip was me being there on Mustang night with 50 Mustangs alone with my 1988 SS then all of a sudden a turbo Buick club rolled in and mustang guys were fuc king destroyed, the looks on their faces were priceless. Saying a GN is not good at burnouts is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read, they are amazing at burnouts and the sound the tires makes as they are being shredded is nasty! If a Mustang hooks up so much better how come zero to 60 times for GNs were fastest American production car in 86 and 87 and not Mustang? You must have been smoking some good stuff tonight!

@@charlieb308This is my experience, not magazine articles. All the mustangs I hung around hooked hard. Most were in the mid 13s (some 12s). My 350hp 4spd vette was a high 13 car (1.8 60' with 295 50 BFGs and 3.55s) and I got beat on the drag strip all the time by those little 5.0s. I only raced a GN once, outside College Station, TX from a roll on the highway leaving town. It had 17" billet wheels on it, Very cool back then. (1990?) I was pulling him into triple digits. I let off first (no OD), and I still remember how that turbo sounded as he pushed through. Sorry to hear about that '88 SS.

It’s much easier to launch a automatic car at drag strip. When you said a grand national couldn’t do a burnout that was really funny.
