Junk removal company helps owner of Pittsburgh-area hoarder home
A hoarding situation in Plum is finally being addressed. Neighbors said this is a good first step to be able to have these possessions be taken away, but there is a long-term goal and that is getting their neighbor the help they need. KDKA-TV's Chris Hoffman reports.

This is great but the woman must have therapy otherwise the house will be hoarded again within a year.

I’m so proud of the junk removal company and her neighbors showing up with a great attitude. It’s rare that we see our news media in a positive light these days, and I’m so glad they did a fair and objective reporting on this case to help the home owner see that she is surrounded by support. I pray her community keeps a positive attitude towards her going forward, I can only imagine the unexpected relief she’s experiencing after struggling for so long.

From the looks of her in the previous piece, she may not be physically able to ‘shop’/acquire more junk. I don’t think on-line shopping is her thing. So maybe this intervention will stick.

Prayers for the woman.
I did this several years ago. We had a old vietnam vet who was a retired cop that was receiving help from a local church. He was a BIG time hoarder. It was a very humbling experience to help someone like that
When you see a hoarding situation. Don't ignore it. It is a mental illness. In most situations the people can't physically clean it up. However it is fundamental to do at a pace that works for her. I bow to junk haulers who donated their time and service. This is no easy job and should not be taken on by someone who truly has no clue what hoarding is. Again thank you to the neighbors and people who showed up and gave a hand up to this person in need. Make your day amazing from Phoenix Arizona. Moving Forward Foreclosure Cleanouts LLC

That one neighbor is literally hiding inside a shrub
It's amazing how a resident in an HOA can be fined or threatened with eviction if their door is painted the wrong colour, but that municipal by-law enforcement, the police, and the mayor could do nothing about this garbage dump and more importantly, about the clearly ill woman who lives there.

I can’t believe they don’t have city ordinances that they could have evoked, especially since it’s causing a rat problem. The neighbors have rights to not have pests problems because of a neighbor living in filth. I’m glad she is allowing the cleanup to happen.

Inside the house must be horrific. She will begin to take stuff out into her yard again unless they can get her removed or get a guardian to take care of her.

Sometimes the help is not wanted - it just happened to work out in this instance. I think you would have a different tune if YOU lived across the street from it. We are quick to issue out advice about what others should or should not do because we are NOT in that situation. If you say you would not be bothered or upset by it if you lived around it - you would be lying.
Glad to see help for them
I am so glad to see the neighbors are not dealing with this like bullies but with compassion and humanity. It seems like this lady has no family to help. Well done community!
Nice to see that some neighbors actually helped her and that a junk disposal company removed the items from her property. Fines, citations, and negative press have no affect on mental illness.

From experience with a hoarder relative - it will continue even after being cleaned up. Hoarding is a mental disorder, not a physical issue.

Just cause you take away the junk doesnt mean it will get piled up again... The problem of the mental health needs to be address. Shes just going to bring back more if shes doesnt get help.
I just watched the initial video. I am so happy to see this follow up video. Outstanding first move to help her. A mental issue is no joke.
Glad to see it's beginning to be resolved. Good for her.
I am glad she is getting the help. Something must have happened in her life to start the hoarding problem two year ago. My neighbor started hoarding when her husband of 42 years died. She hid the problem because the possessions were all inside her house. It came to an end when she tripped on her things and fell down the stairs. She was not found for a couple days after that and had to be admitted to hospital. Many hoarders start when they lose a loved one.
This is great, I hope she gets the mental help she needs as well 🙏❤️
Great way to advertise your company in a good way and help someone in need. Everyone wins here. Even the neighbors. I’m sure there are therapists who can do the same for her if the lady is open to it because indeed she is dealing with trauma, that’s how all these hoarding situations happen. So have compassion on her please.
Thank you G haul!!! You did more than those sorry city officials could ever do!!!!
Just in time for garage sale season. Unfortunately, there will be piles starting again very soon. This is a serious illness, and very hard for a hoarder to change. Sad for her, frustrating for neighbors.
