look up "soap nuts" :) I sometimes use that. sometimes use seventh generation brand unscented laundry soap. and you can add some white vinegar or baking soda in for extra cleaning/whitening

Cold pillow? That is the most important thing to me when I fall asleep!! :D And not just under the pillow... I have to turn it around few times before I finally fall asleep so my head and face would touch the cold side of it :)) I just find it so calming and relaxing.. :)
