June CHRISTY " Taking A Chance On Love " !!!

RARE OLDIES SOUNDIES WITH MISS JUNE CHRISTY & HIS QUARTET ! June Christy (November 20, 1925 -- June 21, 1990), born Shirley Luster, was an American singer, known for her sweet, velvet-smooth vocals and for her work in the cool jazz genre. Her success as a singer began with The Stan Kenton Orchestra. She pursued a solo career from 1954 and is best known for her debut album Something Cool. Upon her death, she was hailed as "one of the finest and most neglected singers of her time."
You can watch all my rare oldies soundies on : www.myspace.com/swingcocktail ! Many thanks , NICKY .

She's pulling those modulations out of thin air...fantastic!
This is the sort of video that should be getting a million plus views not auto tuned crap. This is real talent and craft.

Technology has largely eliminated the need for entertainers to have to rely on craft. This is a reminder of how real people with real talent used to entertain us.

I love June Christy's vocal timbre and her phrasing. Possibly my favourite jazz singer. This performance makes me well up with emotion. Love the band line up too.
Her tone is sublime isn't it.
Sweet lovely easy listening sweetness name June Christy love so sentimentally beautiful goodness.
One more thing: the key changes are as smooth as butter. Thanks again June.

'Misty''' is right. I like her big-time.
This song always makes me feel happy. Thanks June.
WOW WOW WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! From a mad keen 76yo Aussie fan.
This song really hit me different as a new generation teenage girl I could say that this song was totally gold😍
What a fantastic voice! And that group with her was really swingin' it!
June had everything, a cool voice that could be warm, too; great interpretive style; and as her arranger at Capitol Records said, you could throw any change of time or key or anything to her and she could toss if off as it were nothing. She had a happy marriage to the great musician Bob Cooper and a darling daughter named Shay who looked very much like her parents. They lived in a hip home on a hill in Sherman Oaks. When I could not find two of June's albums in the LP days June actually had her producer, Bill Miller, get me copies from the Capitol library! She was from Decatur, Illinois, and already singing with bands by the age of 13.

You sure love the female vocalists of that era! I like your comments because the are educational and show great appreciation for this timeless music. I love June, Joni, Julie, and all the others!

And she was gorgeous. How would you contrast the following vocalists: June Christy, Anita O'Day, and Chris Connor?
June Christie is my absolute favourite lady singer. This song, although at first hearing seeming to be so simple, has a tremendously grooving swing.
Brilliant
This the Truth In Singing.
She was beautiful and very talented.
Produced for Louis Snader's "TeleScriptions" series of musical shorts for television in 1950.
June was the best of the best!
June was the pioneer for all of us girl singers.
Man, the band is swingin' here! And every time I hear June Christy I fall in love.

EL VERDADERO AMOR SIEMPRE TENDRA UNA OPORTUNIDAD BEAUTIFUL SMILE
She had a great voice and phrasing, a kind of mix between Ella and Anita with the heart and soul of June...A tragic waste that she succumbed to alcohol and passed away at such a relatively young age...She had good looks, class and style all rolled into one!!
June et Ella, les reines du swing !
I love Her.
What a singer and a great quintet. This kind of talent is rare.

WOW. this is real. talk about a perfect performance
Beautiful. Such a clear, crystal voice. Great support from the band.
Proud to say she's from my home town, Decatur, IL! From what I've heard, she was performing in local bands by the time she turned 13🎙🎶

The absolute best arrangement of this song EVER! Loved June Christy since I was a teen (born in the wrong decade). Unfortunately, I can't find this song on any of her albums.

I discovered June through Christmas music, one of my favorite genres, and I am blown away by the carefree ease in which this lovely lady can perfectly execute any song.

Juney, I’ll love you forever.
Lovely ....
I'm in love with this song.
Simply beautiful. ❤
That's a beautiful performance. Love it - I had not heard of June until I was introduced to her reading a silly book during COVID-19 lockdown called the Cinnamon Roll Murder. The best thing about the book was it had alot of jazz references that I checked out. So glad you posted this performance and your notes about her style and life. Thanks
Can anyone tell me who the band is, she is singing with? They are great :)...Just answered my own question, as I see the film briefly starts with their name "Ernie Filice Quartet"...However, Filice is misspelt on the film titles - it is Felice. And from a web page, a bit more information..."Ernie Felice was a brilliant accordion prodigy who once was part of the Benny Goodman band (during an interview at Benny's house, Ernie so impressed Benny that Benny immediately signed Ernie to his band) and who worked closely (and was personal friends) with Henry Mancini (musical director at Universal), Ray Heindorff (music director at Warner Brothers), Alfred Newman (music director at 20th Century Fox) and Les Paul (Les and my dad started their own record label call F&P Records). When doing his many studio movies, Ernie's quartet was the featured musical talent in movies featuring the likes of Doris Day, Bob Hope, Ray Milland and others."

I have not expected I can see moving June Christy. And very clear image quality. Great! Thank you!
How she loved those flatted notes too.
This song better be on Fallout 5 😊🖒
Actually, the real pioneer girl singer was Anita O'Day who June replaced as Stan Kenton's girl singer after Anita went solo. Their voices are very similar but Anita was way more inventive. Extreme Be-bop. Check her out.

Here I go again, I hear those trumpets blow again. All aglow again, takin' a chance on love. Here I slide again, about to take that ride again. Starry-eyed again, takin' a chance on love. I thought that cards were a frame-up, I never would try. Now I'm taking that game up and the ace of hearts is high. Things are mending now, I see a rainbow blending now. We'll have a happy ending now, takin' a chance on love. Here I slip again, about to take that trip again. I got that grip again, takin' a chance on love. Now I prove again that I can make life move again. Um - I'm in the groove again, takin' a chance on love. I walk around with a horse shoe, in clover I lie. And brother rabbit of course you better kiss your, foot good-bye. On that ball again I'm ridin' for a fall again. I'm gonna give my all again takin' a chance on love.

Wow!😳🙄🤔 She looks and sounds a lot like the early Doris Day. If you close or squint your eyes you can almost swear that this is a early Doris Day clip/video from the late 40s or early 1950s. 🤗😍💌

who were the players?
Does anyone know who's in the band?
Beautiful ending. To be honest, critics often complained about her ability as a swing singer. Total bull. She had a unique swing for sure, but the ability is obvious. She was also a pretty good scat singer.
