That was both hilarious and a tiny bit annoying tbh. Like, obviously they didn't know her and had no idea of her level of knowledge in Japanese, but the level of shock they had that she basically just said "it's fine" seemed over the top. Like, they're married and living in Japan. Even if her Japanese wasn't at a fluent level yet, she just said one very common little thing??? I dunno. I'm probably overthinking it. The reaction just felt so extreme to me.

I heard bout this theory long ago but I dont care much bout it. Until in 2018 I got appendicitis and got a surgery. 1 week later, I go back home and still sick and cant move around so much. So, my cat suddenly being close to me all the time. Like he come to cuddle with me and try to sit on my stomach when I was lie down which I have to push him aside. He hurts my stitches so bad. But It was weird for me because he not the type who like cuddle and affection. So I thought maybe it because he need attention since that time his foot is injured bcoz he step on a nail and his food is kinda smelly due to the antiseptic my mom give him. But now I get it, he cuddle and being around me because of the cat natural behaviour where they can sense us being sick. And I thanks him for that.

Last year, I had gallbladder pains in the middle of the night. My cat Syra tried everything she could think of to help, including kneading my stomach while I was tossing & turning (which she does when I can't fall asleep). I think at first she just wanted me to settle down because she wanted to sleep, but at the same time, she refused to leave me to my writhing. Turns out I had to go to the hospital for an immediate surgery, but I am very thankful to Syra and her traditional cat medicine. She got lot of praise when I got home! When I was growing up, I once got sick with a pretty bad virus. Not deadly, but I was too sick to sleep, and very miserable. Our family cat at the time, Lassie, stayed with me every minute. He slept next to me, followed me to the bathroom, and even joined me on the floor when I was too nauseous to be on the bed. He was a smart, loving, and wonderful boy. (Our family dog at the time stole the food that my mum set out for me because he knew I was too weak to do anything, but hey, not everyone can be as loyal as Lassie.)

5:21 Technically, he's not wrong. In multiple other languages out there they call them foot fingers. For instance, in Spanish, we call them "Los dedos de los pies". Translating it word for word it means "The fingers of the feet". In Italian, they're called "Dita del Piede", literally meaning "foot fingers". The same thing goes for Portuguese, they're called "os dedo do pé". Many people in different languages call then foot fingers, it's just English being weird.

The first night they did not even have any left. They told me to get my own food from the cafeteria. Next day I got a sandwich with another patient's name on it. They said he did not want it, so I can eat it. They only change it up in the morning. They give you a tiny bowl of rice krispies and orange juice. I am lactose so I could not eat it. Basically not filling at all. Jun's food at least looks healthy and semi tasty.

Poor Jun, his silent disgust was palpable. T^T Weirdly, the hospital I stayed in last year had really good food, but it was funny in other ways. After surgery I was told to avoid fatty foods, and one of the first meals I got had macaroni and cheese, and greens cooked in fat, plus some dessert thing. They also ask your religious affiliation when you enter so they can accommodate any restrictions, but I definitely got pork chops despite being Jewish. (I don't really keep Kosher so it was fine...It was a Catholic hospital so I think they just had no idea.)

2020: Jun's foot surgery 2153: Jun's upgrade to the latest plasborg bodyframe allows him to fully transform into anyone he can think of. He spends the first two weeks shifting between Haku, Poki and Nagi, filming scenes for a retro Jun's Kitchen episode. This annoys the Boyes since their own cyber upgrades have had them looking human for more than a century. Rachel, however, can't get enough of seeing Haku-Jun's floofy butt and tail in the kitchen again.

You've talked before about the cost of healthcare in japan and how much cheaper it is than in the US; if you're comfortable sharing, how expensive was this sort of surgery? You mentioned the second one would have cost a lot more, but i'm curious if it like...counts as elective so its up to 'US' levels, or if its just *relatively* expensive and still cheap by the standards i'm used to

Different insurance plans in the US would have different costs. The hospital charges the most they think they would possibly get, like $2000 a day, and then the insurance pays them what they pay, like $500, which the hospital accepts because they have agreed to accept the insurance. The patient might pay $100 to $300 a day for the hospital as their share. Every medical bill for everything is like that. On my insurance after five days the hospital is free for me for a month. On a doctor visit my insurance might typically pay 15-25% of what the charges are, and to me it's $0 for primary care doctor and $40 for a specialist. But each plan is different.

I am curious too. Although if this was a US surgery, it would likely be a simple procedure in an office, nothing to do with a hospital. Most definitely not an overnight stay. I have had several surgeries under general anesthesia (some removing organs), and they shuffle you out in a couple of hours. ---- When they removed my gallbladder, I was in so much pain office I was begging them to transfer me to the ER as something had to be wrong. The surgical center was closing for the day, so the head nurse sent everyone home and shot me up with something good enough to get me to agree to go home. I was then crawling on my hands and knees in pain for a week. I really hope the US medical industry is gutted and replaced with a functional one.

Oh! I wanted to add last time about Jun's question about what we call "toes" in English. His statement that they can be called "foot fingers " is actually correct in the Latin based / Romance languages. I am a native English speaker in America with (native) Spanish speaking relatives and friends who studies Spanish. In Spanish, they call all the "digits" (which is an accurate name for fingers and toes in English, although it may be more popular in British English) "dedos" so the fingers are called "los dedos de la mano" and the toes are called "los dedos de los pies." Literally translated this means, "fingers/digits of the hand " and "fingers/digits of the feet." If you just say "dedos" it's usually understood that you mean fingers, as in, of the hand, and you add "dedo del pie" to mean toe. Mano means hand, pie means foot. I love English grammar and the easiest way for me to understand Spanish is by knowing how to "transplant " the grammar. Linguistics are fascinating to me. I don't expect everyone to share this passion. Learning Japanese or any character based language is intimidating to me because it is a completely new system. Always impressed with Rachel for being able to do this and with Jun for learning English. Love the married people banter, too! :D It's great that you've been cooking, Rachel. Make it fun! I hope Jun's foot heals soon! ¡Espero que el pie de Jun sane pronto!
