Tim, while sitting in the eye doctor’s office I saw a cool idea for your jumping cactus. Drill a hole in the top to stick died flowers. Basically a weed pot.

Neat project. My suggestion is to turn it into a Jumping Cactus bean. Before gluing the 2nd end on, put in a large weighted ball or bearing. It will turn the cholla into a wobbly toy when spun or rolled.

Tim, thanks for the plug of Hidden Valley Woods. You did the cholla justice. Great turning!

I agree with the earlier suggestions. It needs a light inside. You could cut the top off to do it. Maybe put in a Tea-light. Then make a new top. It would really be cool. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂

Weighted inside the bottom and you have a “Weeble” egg, one of those toys you knock over and it comes back upright. But you can easily add a seed LED light string. Get the bottle stopper type, and drill the bottom to hold the battery and switch.

It is of Mission-Critical importance, that one knows, at all times, the exact, precise technical differences, between a doohickey, a thingamajig, and a whatchamacallit. :)

I concur with the 'jumping'. I used to go to central New Mexico for Astronomy. You don't realize you were close to a Cholla and you brush your hand against your pants and your hand is full of spines. But the skeleton is beautiful when turned and polished.

Tim, this one was really fun and different. I totally agree with some of the others, put some of those little fairy LED lights inside and make it a night light kind of thing. Thank you for sharing all of your ideas and experience.

I think what might be cool is use it for the body of a turned box. Glue on a wooden base and a rim and turn a lid.

Nice job, Tim. I was thinking if you put enough weight in the base, then it could become a pen/pencil holder. You might need to drill out the existing holes. a little bit, to fit a pen in there, at maybe a bit of an angle.

Immediate thought: That would look so cool with some LED lights in it! You could thread them through one of the bigger holes, if you have the patience for it. Imagine the shadows it'd cast. :)

I’d be tempted to change the shape and make it smaller to make it into a Christmas ornament maybe with a small colored tea light?

If you add some round wood turnings inside you could have a rattle? Maybe not.
