Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle Pitch Meeting

The original Jumanji film starring the late, great Robin Williams was beloved by fans around the world. So naturally, in this generation of sequels and reboots, Hollywood had it in its SIGHTS. Starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan and Jack Black, this new movie takes the players inside the game to survive in the jungle of Jumanji.
The movie was a massive hit, but definitely raises a lot of questions. Like what’s up with the game establishing video game rules only to abandon them later? Why is Ruby REALLY dressed like that? Is Kevin Hart trying to play his character or is he just doing his usual shtick. And what’s up with the avatars having accurate human anatomy?
To answer all these questions and more, step inside the pitch meeting that led to Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle!

The brilliance of these pitch meetings is that those who love the film are happy to see it get a pitch meeting while those who hate the film are happy to see it get destroyed with sarcasm. Ryan has discovered the secret to uniting fandoms!

Werdna That’s because the two are not comparable, you’re just pretending they are. The quick version is that idolization of a muscular form is not the same thing as sexualizing. When a movie that isn’t Magic Mike actively normalizes the sexualization of the men while the women are free of it for the most part, then you’ll have something resembling a point. Resembling, but still not quite there. There’s nothing wrong with enjoying seeing women in skimpy clothing. So stop trying to justify it by pretending like you’ve cracked the code on something that our woke society just hasn’t noticed. It’s really embarrassing. Inb4 “no u”.

I loved the original Jumanji when I was a kid. It’s a classic! So I had very high expectations for this remake. I like the fact that they made it different enough that viewers didn’t have to constantly be comparing the two. Honestly, I think they did a great job with it. The original is definitely darker and deeper. The new one is just a feel-good, comedy. I like them both.

Why on earth would you have high expectations for a remake? Aside from the really dated CGI, Jumanji is perfect as it is, Robin Williams and Jonathan Hyde are irreplaceable. That endearing final scene when Alan and Sarah are eagerly awaiting to revist their two friends, even though Peter and his sister never met them (yet?)... there's absolutely nothing on this Dwayne Johnson cash-grab that comes close to it.
