July Sewing

Hello! This is a chatty video about all the things I sewed in July 2021. (Knitting and spinning update coming soon, I promise. Just have to edit it.)
Links and pattern notes are below.
Montrose Top by Cashmerette

I used their size calculator (which I highly recommend) and cut the recommended size, 18 G/H graded to 20 at the waist and hip. I took up the shoulder seam about an inch (when I made these tops previously, I had over-shortened the shoulder seam, so I put 1/2" back in). It's not a "proper" narrow shoulder adjustment, so I recommend looking up actual videos on how to do that. I raised the side seam at the arm hole by about an inch, and did a 1" broad back adjustment. I also combined the scoop and boat neck options to make my own custom neck opening. You can't see it in the video, but I made bias tape for the neck facing.

These are tops I made in 2020 and altered the shoulder seam this month. I made the blue check one in a XXL, which fits fine through the bust, but wasn't big enough for my hips. I added (I think - I can't quite remember) 6 inches to the width for the cream floral one to make an extra full gathered front. As mentioned in the video, I shortened the shoulder seam by 1 1/4", so the gathered sleeve sits higher up on my shoulder.
Sew Liberated Hinterland Dress

Because mine is mashed up with the Montrose Top, all the size info for the Hinterland is not applicable to my version. I am just not very good at doing Full Bust Adjustments, so I never got the fit right when I tried to modify the Hinterland on its own. I used the 18 G/H Montrose Top, cropped it (though not enough) and took in the sides approximately 2". The skirt is two panels, each the width of the fabric. The green fabric is 60" wide, and the tan floral is 45" wide. I pleated the green one and gathered the tan one.
Self Drafted Wide Leg Pants

This is an example of the kind of thing I'm talking about. There are many tutorials for this kind of thing. I used something like this as a jumping off point, but mostly I just winged it, didn't do the recommended math, guessed based on my known measurements and my knowledge of how pants work, and came up with this plan. I did make 3 mock ups, so I probably should have bothered to do the math after all.

Watched this while doing a bit of sewing myself. You've been so productive! 😄 Also, chatty videos are always great so no worries there. ❤️

I think the chattiness is only tiresome for me, because I'm the one who has to edit it and listen over and over again. 😁 What are you sewing on these days? Or is it still top secret?

@@tallhobbitstitches I never thought of it that way, but it's true! I dread editing my videos because I talk too much. We are our own worst critics for sure. 😂 I'm still sewing the mini collection for my graduation show and it's coming along. Hopefully I finish everything before this month ends. 😅 I've been having second thoughts about making a video on it but maybe i'll make a condensed one. Also, i love your wardrobe! Flowy dresses are always the best ❤️
