The last two weeks of July were extremely hot with temperatures in the high 90s and very little rain. The North Garden is still looking good despite the weather. I treated the saucer magnolia for scale. One of the hostas seems to be getting southern blight again. I will have to dispose of it. The little lime hydrangeas in the Front Garden are in full bloom. I dug and potted up the surviving trachycarpus fortunei and placed them in the Jungle Garden. The elephant ears and caladiums are looking very lush, and the cardinal lobelia has started to bloom. The hummingbirds love this flower. In the Pool Garden, the pawpaws have fruit on them. So too does the trifoliate orange. The hardy hibiscus and rudbeckia in the pool garden are also looking spectacular. The castor bean tree has put on a lot of growth in the past few days; it seems to really like the heat. The Hot Border is looking fantastic! It receives no supplemental water and the plants are holding up well in the heat. I finally got around to weeding and mulching. Cannas, coreopsis, gaillardia, inula and butterfly weed are all in bloom. The dahlias are also starting to flower. The Chicago Hardy fig is loaded with fruit. The Cotton Candy Garden is also looking great. Crape myrtles, oriental lilies, and the hardy plumbago are in bloom. The head over heels hibiscus pairs well with echinacea and liatris. Japanese beetles have started to cause damage on the roses.

How long do you had the bamboo fence? Is it getting moldy?

Hi there. We've had th bamboo fencing for just over a year. It's not moldy but the original finish has faded.
