This guy's funny as hell and super charismatic! I knew him from Los Espookys, but his character (the Chocolate Prince?) was nowhere nearly this excitable. RE: one of his film choices, there are many images from Coppola's movies that bring a real mood with them (e.g. More Than This karaoke, the blue morning on the football practice field) and seem to stick with me.

I think it's one of director Scorsese's most inspired films, though somewhat overlooked and neglected. Some folks champion 'After Hours' as the film 'Eyes Wide Shut' should have been.

I JUST learned about Etaix like 2 weeks ago bc I got the Criterion Channel and I love him! Rupture and the anniversary one were so much funnier than they would have been if made by most comic actors / filmmakers. So good! Really enjoyed Yoyo and they have three or four other of his movies. I love the period where you just found out about someone great and haven’t seen all their stuff yet.

I love Los Espookys so, so much. Absolutely one of the most unique shows. It’s so specific and deadpan-ly, innocently weird, as well as hilarious. Maybe not innocently weird, but….like, not all “whoa we’re so wild and ka-razy! I must be a real bizarre artist, right???” like a lot of oddball stuff is. Just doing its own thing in a similar universe a few doors down from ours. I guess not so much innocent as pure. It’s not tainted by the humdrum look, style, decisions, and logic that most shows accept. I can’t wait for Problemista! I’ve been eagerly awaiting it since it was announced, which was right after I learned about Los Espookys. Yay yay yay, Julio Torres! Also, in the picture that is most commonly used in stuff about Problemista, Tilda Swinton looks just like Christina Applegate’s boss in Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead and I’m dying to know if that was the idea or if it’s a coincidence. It can’t be a coincidence, right? So specific!

Understood. He probably gave them a list pre-recording and they nudged them out so he doesn't spend all this time browsing. But the browsing and discovery is what I loved about this series. Sometimes people would take Movies they only heard of and haven't seen. What's the point of grabbing movies you've seen 20 times and already own?@@angel_jojo

I remember this series with guests picking movies they haven't seen and always wanted to see cause they heard so much about it and were so excited so they put it in their bag. Now they just review movies they've already seen and they already own and put it in their bag. It's a bit disingenuous. This idea has kind of jumped the shark.
