Worthy as she is ( She originated four major roles in successful book musicals in her career and was nominated for a tony in three of them) , there may be a 'political' problem here. Remember she may be one of the few tony award nominees to withdraw her name from consideration . In 1996 for Victor/Victoria she said she could not accept the nomination because nobody else in the musical was similarly nominated. That may have burned some bridges in the Tony nominating committee.

Simply one of the most talented women god ever put on this earth. Julie also holds a special place in my heart because she first set foot in America for the first time on the exact day of my birth. These great performances make me proud to be an American, in the best of us we are a welcoming people who respect greatness no matter where it comes from.

I’m old enough to remember that in elementary school, our teachers used to play Broadway records for music appreciation. It seems like yesterday when my kindergarten teacher played Julie’s “Wouldn’t it be Loverly.” It still remains one of my top favorite songs after 60 years.

Krisstie Bee I met Ms.Andrews in 1987 at the back of the parking lot at the Fox Theatre in St. Louis, MO. waiting in line to greet, meet her in the black limousine, she was sitting in,and I walked up to her.I shook her hand, and said," welcome to St. Louis,Ms. Andrews. I want you to know,I paid a lot of money for this ticket to see you, today. And I think you have guts, and I like people, who have guts!" Ms. Andrews, was at the time, going on a tour of several states in the U. S. and this was a Sunday afternoon, and I felt so jubilantly happy to have met her,and expressed to her, what I thought of her. When I was in grade school,I just knew, that one day, I would meet,Julie Andrews,I had absolutely,NO doubt, that I would! I would have bet, everything,I owned, that is how sure I was! I think,Julie Andrews is one of the GREATEST human beings,I have had,the very good fortune,to meet in my life. Bless her,Bless the kind of person she truly IS: SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPEALIDOCIOUS!! Nancy Sanders, Saint Louis, Missouri.

Met her in Philadelphia. I passed out after talking to her. I told her I was a singer because of her. I had just finished The Marriage of Figaro. She asked me what I was doing, told her I had just finished an opera, was working on I Pagliacci. She was so gracious and she wished me luck. I immediately got outside the venue and passed out.

@@headlikeorange3600 Carol and Julie have been best friends for more than 60 years. Carol is godmother to Julie's daughter Emma. They did three television musical spectaculars together (1962, 1971, 1989). They first appeared on tv together when Julie guest starred several times on THE GARRY MOORE SHOW, a very popular variety series on which Carol was a regular. For their first special JULIE AND CAROL AT CARNEGIE HALL, Carol won an Emmy and the show itself also won an Emmy as Outstanding Musical Show of the Year. Carol hosted her own eponymous variety series for 11 years, which won something like 25 Emmy awards, several of them for Carol herself. She is a comedy legend whose early career was mentored by Lucille Ball, with whom she also had a close lifelong friendship.
