I was there and to say this was a spiritual experience would be an understatement! Still in awe..
He really isn't just an amazing player, he's his own unique contribution to what's possible with music and the guitar.
The Keith Jarrett of guitar.

That's exactly the comment I was going to write! For both musicians, music comes first, then it goes through the instrument. Period. That is very different from the "finger music" that many guitarists of all styles are pouring.

YES...!! Hadn't thought of that, glad you did. He really very much is like him., especially how they both pull heavily from classical music, and all sorts of Americana beauty.

Can’t find a higher compliment than comparing Julian with Jarrett. Jessica Williams once said “the music plays me.”
This is unreal. No one sounds like him. His feel and creativity are through the roof.
I’ve been hearing term “next level’ a lot lately. Julian is the level after that.
Such a musical surgeon. Every little thing is right on the money.
There is no other guitarist on earth like Julian. His abilities are limitless. His humanity is ever present.
Most important guitarist alive. Good lord Julian you are unreal and so emotional!
Man he looks like he’s having so much fun as well, must be a blast to have the freedom of the instrument like this
What a tremendous tremendous talent. Just a completely singular voice on the instrument
He and Carl Miner would be an absolute unstoppable duet, as well as beautiful, intriguing, unique and I could go on and on. He's a true master but would never admit it. Very special guy.....
I was at this show and mesmerized by it. I have been lost in a trance everyday since trying to bring myself back to the live experience of witnessing the honestly and immediacy of Julian's musicality. I was overjoyed to find this video and realize there was a record of this experience. Thank you, Daniel, for making and sharing this recording!
No one has more fun playing guitar alone than Julian. My favorite moment is the intro to gardens where go goes “whoa” so something he just did. Surprised himself I guess!
He’s along for the ride as much as we are just incredible

Broken the barrier between consciousness and instrument- like watching Bach or Coltrane play
The courage and bravery it requires to play just one acoustic guitar in such auditorium...!

@@formxshape Of course, been watching and listening for many years. He is currently hustling guitars for a Spanish maker of questionable character. But you are aware of that.
Feels wild to say this, but he's gotten noticeably better since I started listening in 2016! I hereby demand that this man live forever and be protected at all costs!!
I just finished playing my new Alvarez Maccasar Ebony and Spruce Top and i had alot of fun in my living room with a big smile accompanying me until i put You tube on and listened to this Gentleman play for the first time. The rest of the night i shall continue to eat humble pie . However that was so amazing after the second Song i had to stop it and digest what i just saw and heard ! I shall have to watch some more tomorrow . WoW that truly was Amazing ! ThX !!🔥🎸🔥👏🙏🔯🙏
Saw him in Portland, ME two days later -- completely nuts experience. What a singular player. There is no distance between him and the machine.
I like to watch him play because he so obviously loves what he`s doing
If is having half as much fun playing as it looks like, he's got the best job in the world! Such a joy to watch and listen to him. Truly a musician with his own voice.

really hard to think it in terms of job, in this cases it's more of a lifelong commitment/mission, he breathes music since the moment he wakes up since a very very young age.
@nisse_1235

@@chitarragenova I define a job as something you get paid to do, regardless of whether you like doing it or it's something you do just to make ends meet. I know of people in totally different areas that probably are as dedicated to their crafts as Julian is to his. Professors and programmers are two examples. Would you also not define what they do as a job?

@@Ty-bz7zx Marcin is interesting but I don't think he really holds up if you can't watch him with his gimmicks and tricks. He's too flashy, he doesn't have even close to the sophistication of this guy. His voicings and harmonies are really something incredible, and has some serious chops that serve the music instead of being flashy. I has been listening to Julian Lage for many years but still don’t catch what he was playing style. Until recently a few months ago, I found the beautiful of Julian Lage playing guitar. It huge for player who’s not only child prodigy but talent composer. I place Lage track on Top of my listening list and continue dig deep to his pieces. Thanks for sharing.
I was at this show. I wish this video captured how perfect this venue was for Julian’s solo performance. I had a front row balcony seat, but I swear I was fifteen away from the stage. His commentary between songs was also lovely!

So glad I discovered Julian about 5 yrs ago. He’s slowly but surly becoming a living legend. The man is great like a modern day Chopin of guitar! One of the very few musicians that captures my ear in anticipation like Chopin, Jimi, or EJ . He’s truly mesmerizing

One of a kind - playing like a free man with no limitations......unearthly and so inspiring.
So enjoyable to YT listening of Julian's solo improv! I've been listening since he was 8 or 9 years old here in the SF Northbay area. I'm almost embarrassed to say that I picked up Julian's guitar pick dropped while giving a beautiful performance on stage and I walked out of the wings and handed it to him, not realizing that he already reached for another in his pocket; though he politely smiled at me and took it. I knew right then that he'd become a consummate professional musician! Proud of your career path, Julian, and always enjoy another live performance from you🙏🏼🎶
Love it! In general I don't really get his electric playing, but this is wonderful. So creative, Jarrett on Guitar. Cool.
I should have gone to this show. It was only an hour away
Great recording, I was lucky enough to see him on the 13th and the 16th 🎸
Very nice! Not often we hear "modern" tonalities, generally found in the classical guitar world, played like this. Love it.
