    Before the 2:45 mark it’s just two extremely advanced musicians trying to be dissonant on purpose. Sort of meant to sound so bad it’s good. 99% of people on this planet don’t understand it, I sure as hell don’t. First part is for the extreme music nerds (which they are) the second half after 2:45 is for the rest of us and holy shit was it one of the most beautiful acoustic performances I’ve ever seen

    @@bobodeyuca Not necessarily. Atonality implies a lack of tonal center (a home base note, if you will). Throughout the intro they might shift tonal center, but there's always one present. Modes are manipulating the intervals (distance between notes) of a scale, and some can be alarmingly dissonant, but they're still based on a tonal center. I haven't analyzed the song, but I want to say the melody to Bone Collector uses a mode as well.

    Excellent picking... however, not a good version to me. Perfect example of straying too far from home base and yes Virginia, you can have too many notes.. Sorry.. just my opinion..
