Julian Assange faces further wait on whether he can appeal against US extradition ruling | BBC News

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange faces a further wait to see whether he can appeal against his extradition to the US.
Assange has been in a UK prison since 2019 and is wanted by the US for disclosing secret military files in 2010 and 2011.
In 2021, the UK High Court ruled that he should be extradited to the US, dismissing claims that his poor mental health meant he might take his own life in a US jail.
He is now facing a further wait to find out whether he can bring an appeal against his extradition to the US, the UK High Court has ruled.

Wait... so he's basically being punished for exposing a crime? How is he the bad guy? Just because it was the US government who commited the crime, shouldn't mean Julian gets punished. I'm 100% behind Julian Assange! People who commit crimes should be held accountable, even if the people commiting the crime are a government.

no he's being punished for publishing 3 million top secret documents that don't expose any crimes, they just embarrass and weaken USA and the West generally, that isn't journalism it's espionage. The gunship footage was only 1 of 3 million files so 1 crime per 3 million documents is a really good ratio.

Mexico just took out the former Equidorian president living in a Mexican embassy. I didn't hear anything about saving this guy. You are all tools for believing the USA has no right to convict this criminal. Also, I'm Australian and would have to face court for a minor infringement. 😂

There is no way the US would use the death penalty for this case, that is silly. Send him to a federal prison is also not smart because that just brings his supporters to the states and to cause more rubbish. He did the US a favor by exposing the stupidity of their involvement in the middle east and the lack of military discipline in the US.
