Julian loves Flea and RHCP as much as he loves Cliff Burton and Metallica. This was his first time playing bass standing up, which he knew was not the greatest idea because he was still so young, but he thought that it wouldn't be right to play Flea sitting down. He didn't even want to film this because he knew that he would make a lot of mistakes. He never has time to get his bass in tune at this show, either, so that was another reason he doesn't like to post videos from there. He wouldn't even let me post it when he was ten. But he doesn't care about that now that he's so much older and wiser!
He recently switched from bass to guitar because his friends needed a lead guitarist. A lot of the kids in our community are really into music, which is pretty cool.
Julian still plays bass, drums, and a little piano. He's played classical guitar for a long time, too. He is starting to do it more seriously now that he's old enough to do the crazy stretches.
Right now, he's primarily focusing on Barrios' La Catedral, Iron Maiden's Hallowed Be Thy Name, and Yes' Roundabout, trying to get skilled enough to write some music with his friends. On drums, he's learning Green Day's American Idiot and Iron Maiden's Fear of the Dark. On bass, he's working on Manowar's Sting of the Bumble Bee and Victor Wooten's Classical Thumping. Julian has always loved bassists like Wooten. He actually started playing bass at 8 or 9 years old after meeting a bassist from Chicago in a Phoenix Guitar Center, who was really into Wooten and showed him some videos on KZread. Since then, Julian has played bass nearly as much as guitar. And he still loves Wooten!
