Fun facts: Kankkunen could've won 1995 championship with ST205 but TTE got caught cheating with the mandatory restrictor on the turbo intake. It was very cleverly made system that allowed the air to flow in more from the sides of the restrictor. So Toyota was disqualified and Colin Mcrae won the championship. The ST165 and ST185 were far more succesfull cars at their time. By 1995 Subaru had taken their leading edge, forcing TTE to cheat to have any possibilities to keep up in the pace. The ST205 also had wider track width than other cars around so it was more difficult to drive on gravel as it didn't fit in to the tracks made by other cars. The ST185 remained Kankkunen's all time favorite rally car till this day.

it wasn't subaru who forced to cheat it was fia who wanted to stop Toyota's dominance via changing regulations

@@polbol3272Very well said that’s the truth that’s the fact history books Toyota gt4 rally cars were completely built differently than other rally cars why because it’s Toyota engineering no one can compare with them back than and now 2023 Toyota built for life

I really enjoyed the era of GrA in the WRC, of course the technology the cars employ has come a long way looking at what we have today (also what the rules will allow) but back then it was a sincere measure of excitement ❤️ Can’t say thank to Duke Video for capturing footage such as this, it really goes a long way towards making fans of the sport continue to enjoy the WRC 🙏🏼

The fact Toyota got excluded for 1996 (World Rally Chmapionship season) was because its not due to the fact that the Celica ST205 was too bulky and too wide to win over cars that used to compete in the championship that time - while at the same time these cars have their sizes being already transferred into subcompacts of today (which are mostly Europe-only models while they're competing in WRC and beyond) - so earlier on its much a mistake Toyota didn't took over Nissan when the former had only few successes in WRC (Toyota's first win with a 4WD car was 1989 in Australia with Juha Kankkunen) whereas Nissan in the championship only had less wins (last was 1988 in Ivory Coast with a French citizen of that country) and Nissan left WRC in 1992 - while Toyota scored more successes especially today with the right car (Yaris but only for Europe and Australia/New Zealand plus Japan). In an alternate timeline, partially taking place in 1983, Toyota would have taken financial control of Nissan and the result meant that most Toyota products have shifted to Nissan engineering and all Toyotas behave(d) like Nissans - this would mean in WRC that Toyota would compete there with the Corolla (a front-wheel drive evolution) while that product ended up using a lot of Nissan's technology (mostly based on Nissan's overlooked Sunny aka Sentra in North America) and thus in that alternate timeline means half of WRC's competing cars are all front-wheel driven instead. (So likewise if Toyota Team Europe were affected by an alternate history Toyota-Nissan partnership that started circa 1980s therefore Nissan-based FWD Corollas competing in WRC in that alternate timeline means given Toyota's reliability being absorbed into Nissan engineering means they'll try winning with only FWD and no turbo as due to the fact that 4WD is deeply expensive than FWD for example.) I hope fhese could be helped then, especially reading Nissan's limited WRC history is something to think that Nissan in WRC is different from Toyota, Subaru and Mitsubishi, all Japanese marques while Hyundai is Asian - but South Korean and historically Hyundai cars were all based on Mitsubishi products. Which is why Hyundai's current WRC participation is more but deeply like an analog to former engineering partner Mitsubishi competing in the series, but anyway since Nissan could be unlikely to return to WRC means as the latter is mostly European then Stellantis' Alfa Romeo could return to WRC but unlike its fellow Stellantis partners Peugeot, Citroen, Fiat and Lancia therefore Jeep could join WRC for the first time as I think. (Tommi Makinen's whereabouts since he was replaced by fellow Finn Jari-Matti Latvala as Toyota's team boss maybe unknown but if Jeep were to participate in WRC with a right car like the Jeep Avenger means such a Europe-based rally team for an iconic US carmaker could be headed by Makinen and because of this mean this Jeep World Raly Team may end up locating its headquarters in Finland like Toyota and Hyundai does.)
