Музыка

Judy Garland Live at Carnegie Hall , The night that everyone wanted to attend !
A historical concert that to this day is considered as the greatest moment in show history . The audience was wild and Judy was breathtaking in a tour de force that has never been surpassed or maybe by Liza , but hey are made of the same wood !

Thank you Phillipe. I listened to the album today (for the first time.) I am 74 years old. It brought me to tears. How could I not be affected by the depth of artistry and emotion Judy displayed. Your review was wonderful.

I became a fan of Judy a few months back, after watching BeKindRewind's Video about this very show, I am 54 and the only song I can remember her for was Over the Rainbow, The man that got away, possibly. But I have to admit I am a die hard fan now, never thought that would be possible, but here I am and I adore her, I don't think any other star singing could have a happy effect on me, she can make me smile and have me crying within the same song. I listen to her every day.

You are beautiful! Judy Garland sang how many songs that night? 30? Chicago, her last that night, her voice as strong as when she began. Unbelievable voice!!!

An ex of mine introduced me to this album a couple of years ago and it just blew me away. It's so different from the kind of autotuned performances that people rave about these days. There's humour, she forgets lyrics, she goes flat, she misses cues, she's vulnerable, her voice cracks, towering, bravura, torchy, moving, beautiful... a marathon rollercoaster ride of emotions... and by the end of it, you're just rooting for her to go on and on. She gave so much that night and it's just amazing, every single note. That ex of mine is long forgotten now but this album is still with me. It's magnificent.

My favorite songs on the album are Come rain or shine, Stormy Weather and Rock a bye your baby and Swanee and Over the Rainbow, the album is absolutely amazing and brilliant. I bought the album a few years ago and I have never stopped listening to the album. The album cover is a piece of art in itself.

You have just done the best Judy video on KZread I’ve seen in ages. You didn’t once use the word tragic or sad. You said what I think she worked for…. For us to remember the gifts that she gave us. I pray to God that she is never forgotten. With videos like this, she will.

I think that she was the greatest live act of her generation. In a different way, so was Ella Fitzgerald, but Judy Garland packed an emotional wallop that none of the others did, and her technique was so artless-seeming and natural that it sounded relatable. She was really a shrewd vocalist who made so many songs sound inevitable, a still-underrrated actress with a ferocious intelligence and wit, and sensitivity, all of which found expression in her sound. This album showcases and preserves all that!

I was there that night!!! My uncle produced the evening and our whole family was in the audience. There is a photo of the audience here and I can see my father and another one of my uncles. After the show, we all took her to dinner and she was absolutely adorable. No one like her ever!!!!

The reissue of Judy's Carnegie Hall album replaced "alone together" with a studio recording of that song. The reason is that Judy was off mike as she started the song. I think that it made the album more real and spontaneous. Oh, some years later, she was performing giving a performance at Westbury Theater out on Long Island. It was theater in the round. After the performance, she accepted the applause and touched the hands of those up front. I was there. I leaned forward and kissed her cheek. It is the highlight of my life.

Not only was she 'off mic' at the start, but at the end of the number, the drums are totally different, with an extra beat thrown in... not sure if links are acceptable in the comments, but this version IS available on youtube...

I will never forget the impact of hearing this album as a teenager when it was first released. I never got over it. Bought several new ones over the years after wearing them out...seriously! My favorite, the 40th Anniversary CD. I simply cant believe the magic Judy Garland cast, when at her best. My addiction.

Timeless! And the album cover is genius. I was obsessed as a little girl, and my 11 year old brother was a paperboy and saved his money...$32!...and treated the family to her concert in SF the year after Carnegie Hall. Great memories.

An amazing performance. It's impossible to imagine Barbra Streisand's career without thinking about Judy Garland. She was a truly remarkable singer in every way. A voice steeped in richness, passion and longing. It's amazing that she was only 39 when she recorded this, and only 47 when she died. She was an old soul if that means anything beyond a cliche. So many songs on this album were sung by later greats--Barbra, Diana, Betty Buckley. Judy cast a huge shadow. I loved the Renee Zellweger movie, but I wish the music had been dubbed by a more significant singer--Adele maybe?--than sung generically by an actress who can sing. Judy was so special and I fear that the "Judy gene" will die with gay men under 50. I just don't know if there is much appreciation among younger gay men, but this video will hopefully create awareness. Thanks, Philippe.

Rufus Wainwright paid a wonderful tribute to Judy’s genius several years ago by recreating this concert with the original orchestrations (and some of the original musicians) at Carnegie Hall, the Paris Olympia, the London Palladian, and the Hollywood Bowl-I was lucky enough to see his performances in both New York and LA and it was thrilling to finally hear the music in person after listening to the JUDY JUDY JUDY album hundreds of times since my parents first brought it home in 1961-greatest live recording of all time! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

She sort of screwed up the hairdo story a tiny bit at Carnegie Hall. Forgive me. During that tour she would end the story with "I looked like Mrs.Neanderthal" which got a huge laugh. Neanderthal Man was on the cover of many magazines at the time. Just saying because it is such a funny line.😂
